Japan zoo need to make from bachelor group right away or these gorillas will not survive the stress

I agree that Shabani shows great restraint when Kyomasa continues to “poke the bear.” Shabani is a great Silverback to his family, but HE is the leader. I have loved Kyomasa ever since Annie was born, and AI rejected her. Every day, it was Shabani and Kyomasa who came to visit with Annie to get to know her. Poor Annie, she just wants everyone to get along. ❤

Sad to see this happening with Kiyomasa. The physical and mental health of the troop is directly affected by its social dynamics. Remember how thin and stressed Annie became the last time there was a falling out between Kiyomasa and Shabani? And I am also quite concerned about Nene’s health.

I agree about her health

Kiyo is turning into a young silver back and feeling his wild oats, ( experimenting with his dominance and silverbackness). I think he went over the line with Shabani and now Kiyo is having to deal with it. Shabani is king and letting him know it.

Shabani is incredibly patient and gentle even when he’s attacking. Nene is always doing too much, she protects her son all the time and yet he always harasses her.

Like mother like son. Nene never respects Shabani as silver back. Toto was born in the wild as well but she is a very beautiful, gentle and kind gorilla. No word to describe how bad nene is.

I hope the vetrenarians treat his injury. I'm sure the keepers know what happened in the basement. We must remember that this is good practice for Kyio, when he has his own family. The way Shabanis patience is, shows him the same and how to treat his family.😊

Also, if he goes to a bachelor group, he knows what to expect when a disagreement arises. Its practice. Not to nessessary mate. Although, he may try if he us there to long. P.s.- I don't believe that a son nessessary wants to fight a kind father. There is play practice.

It is so amazing to me how calculating gorillas can be. They usually don't just react without putting some thought behind it.

Shabani did nothing wrong, he needs to put Kiyo and Nene in their place. They don’t respect him as the leader, he is very patient and loving which seems to be taken advantage of.

Shabani is on edge and it's not good for the troop. They are fearful when he's like this.

Ai and Nene are fierce defenders of Kiyomasa . Sweet Annie is concerned for everyone . The keepers did a great job of monitoring the situation . In a few clips you can see them watching and then they made sure to put food on the gates to entice the troop to eat. It is just my opinion. But thank you @JapaneseZoo for doing such a great job with these videos and presenting them without taking sides and always sticking to the facts ❤

He is young a male and yes it is his Dad and leader. I'm asking to plz keep us aware of his health and especially QUEEN NENE I call her this my heart breaks at time for this strong lady she may be a grouchy any time she wishes she is elderly and I love the lady. Does she need anything special to sleep on at night or she is feeling bad??? Thank you for allowing us to see their life you are kind to do so. Love to this beautiful troop....❤❤❤❤

I hate seeing when they have problems. 😔 I feel for Annie the most. Such a sweetheart who is worried about her dad. And I'm sure she's worried about Kiyo but she seems more focused on Shabani. I worry about her reaction when she must leave her father. This is one reason why I believe Gentaro would be perfect for her. He's gentle like Shabani. Even more, like D'jeeco. Its to bad Riki is her relative. He's a good choice for a great Silverback.

@@jor6426 Aw, yes! I would love to see her and Gentaro together the most. Is D'Jeeco in her bloodline? I could see her with him as well. (I would just worry to death for her around Iriki and Tayari.) And omg, Riki would be perfect. I love how he is with Sumomo and his mother. I'm also worried about when she has to leave, too. I think Shabani is going to take it extremely hard, even when Kiyo leaves. Regardless of their fights, Shabani adores Kiyo. (Still grooms him!) Thats why I really want him to have another baby as a distraction. This whole thing is heartbreaking!

yes, he needs to go to a bachelor group and then someday have his own troop. These 2 males are still together in 2024 and still issues.

I do love this family as well as everyone else. Shabani is a wonderful father and silverback. This is life lessons for Kiyo. Shabani could really hurt him and other members of the troop if he really wanted to. He is showing alot of restraint knowing himself that this is Kiyo reaching adulthood and the lessons that come with it. Shabani is the leader and he has to show the troop from time to time who he is and where he stands. None of us really know or understand the true dynamics within a gorilla troop. We all have our opinions of how we feel about this situation and we can agree and disagree with each other. We all know that it is time for Kiyo to leave the family which will be a sad day but life has to go on for the next generation. Hopefully things will settle back down soon and we can enjoy watching what time we have left with them all together

I agree 💯 with what you said! This is all life lessons for Kiyo. He has to learn the hierarchy of the troop and how important it is! Shabani is the only one who can teach him that! Kiyo has to learn. As you said, Shabani could do serious damage to all of them if he really wanted to! He is showing a lot of restraint here, but he will only take so much. Some people don't understand that these are natural behaviours for Gorillas. I think some people forget they're Gorillas and not humans lol! I saw that Shabani has a sore hand aswell. Obviously, we don't know what happened in the basement, but I'm thinking Kiyo has overstepped and hurt Shabani's hand, and then he retaliated. Gorillas aren't aggressive primates unless they feel threatened or are attacked. So I don't think he would have bitten Kiyo like that for nothing.

It's facinating how much communication is going on without a spoken word. Every movement, gesture, look no matter how subtle carries great meaning. These creatures are so in tune with one another that it's if they just instinctively know what each other are thinking.

I think she there is so much tension and stress they need to get the people out. With Kiyo's hand wound there must have been a fight early morning in the basement. I like Annie she joins in the fight but doesn't lol

Dad is Dad and no child can decide to rule the household except Dad! Shabani is doing what he has to do no matter how painful it is . I love watching the females intervene to calm Shabani down. They are truly special ladies. ❤

Nene is old, even for gorilla in captivity. I'm surmise the recent tensions in the gorilla house have her stressed. I'm sure her keepers are monitoring her health.

Kiyomasa is a chicken! Hides behind his mom and Ai. He needs to be moved ASAP! This situation between Shabani and Kiyomasa is escalating and someone’s going to get hurt or killed.

Kyo should be living in his own family, not with his parents and sisters. In captivity, males must be weaned at the age of 8-9. Gentaro is 11 years old in the Kyoto Zoo, and there are already regular problems between him and the silverback father (Momotaro), which is natural behaviour (as between Kyo and Shabani). This is the responsibility of the (gorilla) species coordinator... Sad...

Yes, here in England a 10 year old Lope has recently been separated from his family at Twycross Zoo in order to avoid this situation. He is currently living alone in his "bachelor pad", and there are plans to move him to a bachelor group in Europe soon. He will eventually have his own troop. Shabani wasn't much older than this when he was sent from Australia to Japan.

@@staypeace5955 if they are on birth control, it doesn't matter-but the silverback is in charge, so he should discourage it. it's rare that wild gorillas mate with their siblings...but these are captive. Urges are there-best to get Kiyomasa out.

My heart goes out to all these silverbacks in Japan!!! Having to put up with their eldest son disrupting the troop , it's just not fair. They are stuck in the situation because of humans. We have not done enough to help these animals, that we keep in captivty! They should all feel safe on a daily basis! Situations like this with Shabani and Momotaro should not be taking place! Something has to be done with these zoos!

0:21 I have enjoyed watching this chanel for a few months now and have fallen in love with all the troup, each so individual and their so absolutely human likeness, every post is amazing. Watching the last few days unfold is so heartbreaking. To see Shabani and family like this, as much as Kiyomasa's defiance is about him growing up and probably normal behaviour for a male gorilla it still saddens me to see the troupes reactions. Shabani showing so much restraint towards Kiyomasa, poor Nene copping the brunt and Kiyomasa himself with his wound is more than sad, it really grabs at the heart. Hoping everything returns to normal for these beautiful creatures and the staff who look after them, as well the very special person who films and posts these clips for the world to see, you are an amazing person and conveyed what happened perfectly, thank you. We will have to get used to seeing these situations more often, because it seems that the zoo does not think about making decisions about it. I'm worried about Annie, she seems to lose weight every time something happens conflict. Nené abuses Shabani's patience, with her fragility, he could blow a little and she would fall unconscious.

It’s really unfortunate the Netherland agreed to send Shabani & Haoko to Japan. The zookeepers do a fabulous job but management sucks!!!!These beautiful families deserve better than Japan zoo!!!!

Just a little history: In 1996, Kibabu and his troop transferred from the Netherlands to the Taronga Zoo in Australia. In 2007, Haoko and Shabani were transferred from Taronga Zoo to Japan.

I love the Shabani gorilla family troop❤❤❤,,, Annie was staying behind the other ladies to show her Dad that he is number 1 to her, (I love the love Annie has for her Daddy) I know that Nene will protect Kiyomasa as long as he’s in the troop that’s a Mother’s love for her child. But still trying to figure out why Ai is protecting Kiyomasa too,, is it really because of Nene being so dominant over Ai,, And Ai always wanting to please Nene all time. Shabani is the best silverback I love that great big handsome guy ❤❤❤

This zoo needs to provide a softer surface for the gorillas to rest on instead of concrete. As they age, they will develop joint problems from the cold hard floor that they rest on. This is not a very expensive fix. Hopefully someone at the zoo monitors these comments and can speak English.

Kiyomasa is drama queen and Nene is too spoilt him rotten.

I wonder if Shabani had Kiyomasas hand in his mouth, doing that playing submission game? But sometimes I've seen it go to far,like the beast within kicks in. I hope Shabani restores order as it's weird how they all followed Kiyomasa around in a constant dodge Shabani game.🦍🦍

It's hard to restore order when granny & her daughter barking & chasing him. Poor Shabani he can't win no matter what.

They need to separate them before they seriously hurt each other and Kiyomasa needs a doctor not a vet to repair his hand. His hand is pretty bad.. Im watching this on a 50 inch tv screen and those are deep wounds. 🤬 Shame on this zoo.

It might be about time for Kyomasa to find his own family. This happened with another young black back Lope. His father started to push him out and they had to separate him. They are planning a new family group for him. Just love this family.

In the wild blackback male gorillas usually leave the group they were born in when they're around 8 years old or so. But I've seen videos out here of gorilla groups in the wild having multiple silverbacks, so I don't know. However, here it looks like it might be time for Kiyomasa to go. Either to be placed by himself somewhere or to be given a group of his own somewhere. Because it's obvious that the stress is taking it's toll on the entire group. I suppose he could stop challenging Shabani someday. But he could also continue to challenge Shabani until something REALLY bad happens. In my opinion though, the longer Kiyomasa stays with the group, the worse it's going to be when he eventually IS separated from the group.

Its time for kyo to move out n run his own show n shabani deserves a new wife or 2 or 3 he needs sum good loven🤞

I think Kiyomasa might need stitches in his finger. That wound looked really deep. Kiyo needs to stop pushing his father. He ought to know that if Shabani wanted he could really hurt him. I wonder if there had been a fight in their sleeping quarters. Does anyone know what the sleeping arrangements are for the troop? If you could let me know I’d be so glad.

So when they have injuries like this, do you treat the injury or let nature take its course and if you do treat it, how do you treat the injury?

From what I learnt about the last fight where Ai was hurt, gorillas have a natural antiseptic in their saliva. Licking the wound helps. Don't quote me on that, it's something that was said. True or not.🤔

The zookeepers & this troop seems more concerned about Kiyomasa's injury. Nobody is concerned about Shabani's possible injury or the ongoing stress he is experiencing.

Shabani also walks on his right wrist, due to the abundant fur at times it cannot be seen, and Annie looks insistently at the right side of his back. Sabani shows no signs of being hurt but that doesn't mean he hasn't been bitten. Although they have explained to us many times that it is a natural process, it is still sad. Greetings to all.

Nene is a moma bear when it comes to protecting Kiyomasa. The other females seem to agree and are taking his side against Shabani.

This is not a herd of animals. Herds are predominately the " hoofed" animals. Gorilla groups are called " Troops" not herds. SMH you should know this

I think that all of us lovers of these gorillas know this.. the main thing, I think is that everyone here knew what was meant.. understanding trumps correct terminology and is really what matters most.. I misspeak sometimes, I think that we all do. But, we understood what was being said, that’s the important thing.
