Proud of Torrie for this performance, she’s starting to find her stride now. You race who is there on the day. If they don’t run to their ability be it from injury, beginning of season, end of season or ego. That isn’t on the winner. Torrie got to line in first place, plain and simple. She’s one of few sprinters we have that can produce under pressure, Caleb Law is another one we have that can, ironically they train together.

You’re right that’s exactly what it is, runners at Sha’Carri level know what they are doing, they strategize at this stage in the game. It’s too early in the season to do the most & often times their coach will advise them not to overdue it at races like this, as to not cause injury. Ppl forget that she is doing intense training outside of these races, no need to go All out when the Olympics is the main goal at the end of the day.

ShaCarri looks beautiful with her natural hair yet it used to be said to pull or braid the hair for the actual race because of “aerodynamic” reasons. ShaCarri time is usually less than 22.4 (and that time was in the rain, I believe). If her shoulders and neck tighten as the wind hits her hair, that resistance may have caused a bit of hesitance in her sprint.

Ok, so in the middle of watching this video my mind began to go in a different direction. This morning, I saw the race and thought this start and the start in Budapest are the absolute worst I’ve ever seen from ShaCarri in the 200M, and although I think she only lost because she couldn’t see Lewis in lane nine approaching (just like I feel she failed to qualify in 2022 for the exact same reasons), I was also a bit disappointed to see she still looks so fatigued in the final 50 with her knees dropped, etc. THEN, while watching this, I began to think perhaps she did use this race for training purposes to see how she would fare if she didn’t have such a great bend (as usual), and whether she could catch folks from behind. That part, she did well here. The more I think of it, ShaCarri almost always runs the 200M from the front, and doesn’t have much experience running folks down. In any event, whatever happened, she is clearly focused on 200M fitness this year and I hope she gets it. By the way, MAN, Christian Coleman impressed me big time today! He had that slow start (although it set up his race well), but still pulled away from Kerley and held his lead? WOW…he’s definitely fixing his problem, and I’m now beginning to think he may be the man to beat in Paris!

I know Sha’Carri will pull it together…I just hope she doesn’t wait too late to pull it all out. Either way, I’m quite certain the top Jamaicans are slow right now also, because they usually are, and it would be smart if properly peaking. I almost feel the early 10.5 from Sha’Carri hindered her from running such a time in Budapest late season.

She did. It's hard to see the outside lane. I'm sure she thought she had the win and let up. But I'm sure she won't do that again. But it bothered me that it seemed that only a few of the runners congratulated Lewis.

this might be Torrie's first international showing. At just 19 she's taken the Aussie 100m record to 11.10 this year - so not up there with the big international sprinters, but she's on the up and up. Will be good to watch her for a few years to come. It's always fascinating to see how athletes do or don't progress

You deserve to be proud. Athletics is about local heroes. All a person has to do to please me is lead their nation and then represent their nation well. I only count the time my countrymen crosses the line. Australia deserves to feel her champion is like no other. All nations must feel that way to keep athletics relevant and breathing.
