@@lobokujo7825 it's deffently expansive! Some time to expansive! But go to a game cafe if you have one local to you and join BGG. Just be careful on BGG with the ratings because even though games are highly rated some of them a very challenging.

So about that....

I made a proto type / demo version with checkers pieces and printed grids to see if my dad liked it, he LOVED IT!!! So bought a copy for his birthday , great find, cheers guys haha

I love a good simple abstract game, and I am definitely going to try this one! This might be another one to teach my duders that are into chess like games but get easily frustrated by them!

Oooooh, I think my brother would love this one! I bought him and his girlfriend Hive for Christmas and they texted me later on just saying "you nailed it", so I bet they'd have a great time with another less thematic but differently challenging game about moving things around!

All the ways you described Shobu make me think of Go (except maybe the short turnaround time, tbh); Adam, if you ever have the chance to dig in, I think you might love it

Great review! You have captured the spirit, challenge and beauty of the game perfectly.

I'm beginning to suspect that Adam doesn't like children.

This game was highlighted at my local game shop in 2019 -- I think the publisher is local to CT -- and I bought it immediately. It's brilliant and accessible, and new players really enjoy it. It's like the board game version of Tak that way. So cool to see it highlighted here!

I just received this game for Christmas. I’m excited to play it, but the rope is far less aromatic than I was lead to expect.

I love it because it looks like I could build my own for about 10 bucks, including some fancy oil to make the rope smell good. Question: what happens if you knock a piece that isn't on an edge? Is any collision a 'take'? Or do you just nudge them one square over?

No, only stones knocked directly off the board edge are removed. You can still push opponent's stones on the board without taking them off if you need to. You can in theory push a stone two spaces without knocking it off, but in practice it's much more likely you'll push one off the edge.

How about a video on Tzolk'in or Power Grid?

One Punch Man and Miazaki references in the same video I am spoiled.

Reminds me of Tak from The Name of the Wind. Simple to play hard to outthink you opponent.

That was the game Go, and the manga Hikaru No Go. Shobu came out 2 years ago
