This is one of the most wholesome stories I've see with Metal. Despite not able to display expressions, you made it clear that he has a feeling of confliction. I'm always a fan of villains possibly turning good or at least learn the goodness in life.

I love of how Tails wasn't portrayed as a wimp in this animation and was willing to defend himself against foes without needing Sonic's help, unlike Modern Tails were he just sits there and hides like a coward.

Tails in late games is spineless worm, but at the beginning of Modern Era in Sonic Adventure he stands for himself, in Sonic Adventure 2 he even leads the fight without Sonic. All those writers are assholes.

For a machine, Metal was quite expressive here. You could almost hear what he was thinking and see expressions on his face. You just won yourself a sub.

I think I finally understand why Metal Sonic is one of my favorite Sonic characters. Eversince the OVA/Heroes, he's embodied that existential fear of being "one of" or A something instead of THE something. The feeling of being just another step towards something better instead of being that unique being, and yet, very few robot characters like him choose not to fight that fear. Metal Sonic embraces his similarities and builds on what he knows he's good at to make himself stronger. That is what makes him unique. That's what, in an ironic twist of fate, makes him that unique being. It might be weird that I drew that conclusion from this video, but I can't help that this video opened my eyes to something I could not understand before. Thanks, Mike!

If you ask me, Metal technically gave his classic model to Tails, hoping that Tails will manage to find a better use for Metal's classic model... In fact, seeing what Metal did, giving his classic self to Tails, was the reason why I always partner Tails with Metal Sonic while I play Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020! 🙂😮🤨😕😲🙂

metal Sonic can sometimes be one of the most harmless things in the Sonic series... other times the complete opposite... he's my favorite character out of the entire Sonic series due to him occasionally thinking out if his own free will and doing some, not evil things.

This was awesome! Metal Sonic is my favorite character, so seeing an animation focused on him was awesome, plus the conflict of Eggman treating his creations as disposable was really interesting since we don’t really focus on it that much in the main series to my knowledge.

part of the reason metal sonic doesn't break so easily is because he's not mass-produced like all the other units (the beetles, bees, etc). He was built as a miniboss, sio by default, he had more time put into his design. the others just shatter irreparably when broken, but most if not all of Metal's parts are still around when he does get broken.

Looks like metal sonic wanted tails to build and repair the other metal sonic so that he would thank him later

Eggman truly is an awful parental figure. As much as he is proud and loves Metal like his son and best creation, he still uses him for his own benefits without any consideration of Metal's questionable existing feelings, only his well being, as in if he is functioning and in what condition he is in. And when he is done with Metal or Metal has done his job, it's back to the shelf till he is needed ones again. He even robs Metal of a voice and true identity just to keep him obedient.

It's this characteristic of eggman where i don't buy their father daughter dynamic with sage in sonic frontiers. (Its my opinion) Because while the game wanted to humanize eggman. I can't help but feel there is a motivation behind admiring sage or even considering her as a daughter. And even if that doesn't convince you. Keep in mind he'd still built omega as a mechanical killing machine only to abandon his so called creation for a guarding duty causing him to go sicko mode He pitted E-102 gamma over E-101 beta. Favouring gamma as a part of e 100 series because of his potential. While beta was in repaired to be more efficient and stronger. He only values his creation as long as they aren't pitiful or an embarrassment to him

I like that Metal doesn’t go to the good guys and just leaves the parts and flies away after a wordless exchange. I don’t understand why but it feels so much more impactful. Just a quick sidenote I love how this doesn’t have any dialogue, but it’s still just as effective if not more so effective than dialogue. Here’s another quick sidenote: I really like hell the lighting makes Eggman seem sort of like a monster. He’s a creepy kind of figure and I like that

Honestly this makes me so interested to see if they would try to do something cinematically in love action like this with the metal sonic character. And that he did what he thought was right before eggman made him lose it again. Like someone else said. He wants there to be a version of himself that is free and “less disposable” even in enslavement, he’ll be happy if one version of him is free.

If Metal was to turn good, this is the best way to have it be done, having him be rejected by Eggman. Usually when the bots turn on him, they reject him first, but he'd be rejected first.

Metal seeing Classic Metal on the ground and wanting better for him is such an amazing thing. Hopefully Tails can do what he does best with it.

I'm guessing those are the badniks and the first Metal Sonic from Sonic CD? I love the silent moment where he looks at the discarded badniks and the ones currently in production, wondering if he too will be replaced someday.

Thank you for making this, it really brings back memories of when I used to play Rom hacks with metal Sonic instead of sonic in sonic 1-3 and CD. I always loved to imagine why Metal was the protagonist, and that tails fixed him up after a bad mission. After that, he decided that Mobius's natural life deserved to live and so he rebelled and fought Robotnik...thank you for bringing my old fantasies somewhat to life with this sfm.

This is really good!

I almost threw up seeing how much your animations have improved. This is just outstanding.

This was quite an interesting fan vid you've made, and you've done it perfectly. Metal may be pure evil, not just he'll intentionally kill Sonic, but betray his master anytime. But one difference is that even his only mission is to defeat his one and only enemy Sonic, he wasn't programmed to kill others even if they're Sonic's friends, just like how he treated Oji-san nicely and saving the president's life back in the OVA. Asking (thus he cannot talk) Tails a favor to take care of his previous design is quite charming, which he does have a will to do something that's outside of his orders. Whether that will would cause Sonic Heroes all over again, or take a different step to do something amazing that might impress his enemies at least once, its his choice. I wonder if he has any feelings with his previous brothers, the Mecha Sonics...

Does this lead to Shard the Metal Sonic being created by Tails? Always hated how that character got wiped out by the reboot in Archie (It didn't matter since the entire comic was cancelled not long after but still).

I think Shard was technically a Mecha Sonic, not a Metal Sonic. In one of the current comics, Tails is playing about with a rebuilt Metal Sonic but its still incomplete since Metal Sonic is a custom built robot and not a mass produced Badnik that can be salvaged. Plus he basically has to create a whole new AI to actually "live" in the body. (Eggman actually long suspected someone might try to reprogram a Metal Sonic to try and kill him one day. After the incident with Neo Metal Sonic, Eggman actually stopped programming Metal to be loyal to him and actually make [Defeating SonIc] his sole and only directive - Effectively meaning Metal Sonic has no reason to rebel against Eggman as long as he doesn't get in his way and will always go after sonic even if he IS defeated or programmed to ignore Eggman's orders)

This video is dope Metal sonic is one badass machine

What Tails said next, was what made me make the idea of Tails and Metal Sonic as partners: "If I can piece Metal Sonic back together, I might be able to use his built-in homing beacon to lead us to Eggman." 😲😐🤨😕😮🙂

I always wondered when...or if...Metal Sonic ever found out he was one of many variations of Eggman's robotic attempts to defeat Sonic. Technically, the version in Sonic CD died on Little Planet and we're never told if the one(s) afterward are the original or copies. This is why I loved Omega before Sega retired him. He makes it his business to prove he's the best robot, not just the E-Series, probably for this exact reason.

I'm wondering why eggman never mass produced metal, Mecha , rocket, and robo sonic and just bombarded sonic with them
