In exchange for the shorter DR cancel window on back/forward MP, she can now combo back HP after. Before you had to do stand MP.

Yeah. To expand on that-in case anyone's not sure why one less hit in a combo would be better-after linking 5MP into 4HP, her opponent would need to be crouching if she wanted to connect a stance launcher. Being able to go directly into 4HP means less pushback, which dispenses the need for a crouching opponent, and gives her easier access to her standard safe jump setup.

@@gochuckyourself1892 It isnt as much because you could still combo into 4HP on counter hit, or confirm if the opponent was crouching to combo into 4HK/Stance HK, and 2MK already comboed into 4HP. But i aint complaining, that buttom needed to be nerfed lol

I'll take these nerfs on the chin. They more or less serve to keep Chun "honest." 5HK was such a rewarding anti-air that it led to me overusing it (and getting smacked in the process) when Tensho Kicks would've done just fine, so it doing less damage will just encourage me to use her other AAs more. I'm also delighted to have 5HP back.

Especially considering how slow and duckable HK is, I'm kinda surprised it even warranted a nerf, while HP gets away scot free

The 5HK nerf was the only one I felt was kind of unnecessary, or at least should have come with a buff. The move only served as a combo starter or risky but rewarding antiair. Seeing it nerfed with no changes to its utility is rough.

Could be wrong, but the 4MP cancel change might have been to prevent hitconfirming into a drive rush. Some top level chuns were apparently able to do it somewhat consistently.

I think the main target of the Ex Kikoken nerf was its use in her max damage punish counter combo starting with PC 4HP xx HK Hazanshu. She extended the combo with a jab into Ex Kikoken IIRC and her max damage punish combos were actually really chunky as a result. EDIT: See Baf's reply below

The extra scaling for ex kikoken is only applied when it starts the combo. Just labbed it to make sure.

Her nerfs confuse me. The only one that makes sense is the SA2, with the meter gain nerf. They nerfed her damage, when she wasn't a high damage character to begin with. HK as a AA was really good, but why not just nerf it for that scenario? Why nerf it grounded as well? B/F mp, ok fine, but you're still gonna be able to use it as a whiff punish tool regardless of the cancel window. I dunno, very strange changes here for a character that wasn't near as dominant as a couple other characters. She has strong footsie tools and all of the most used ones were nerfed. Standing FP, ok cool, but it cannot be canceled unless you counterhit with it. Seems to me they're confused on what this character is at this point. Strong footsie buttons all made weaker, with not a whole lot to compensate. She basically caught all Luke changes, except Luke actually got some comp for his nerfs.

I think the change to Stomp may or may not make it easier for her corner safe jump mixups, along with being able to do it anywhere in the stage easier

Its harder, but its still possible to confirm her 6MP if you focus on the opponent animation before the attack, meaning you can still react to whiff punishes and counter hits. She is definitively weaker, but considering how strong she was, she will be fine. I will keep playing her

@@l3oMBaSTiC But generally, when you counter hit the opponents, you are at close range where would hit anyway, I'm saying that sometimes you can still react if you confirm if the opponent was doing something. But it is still way harder than before

I don't like the emphasis on her air legs now, nor the lowered cancel windows. i already struggle with the reactions needed to hit confirm

I understand she was good before, but this sounds pretty harsh. Though i guess i cant say that for certain without knowing how she and her matchups are affected by the mechanic changes

8random nerfs and what kills me the most is they not only nerfed her weird hazanchu for whatever reason, they smoked her already laggy air legs. yet kept other dives and plus dives just fine and gave aki mad projectile invincibility and jamie with his goofy legs too. also why does ex air legs have the bottom of the hrutbox classified under projectile invincibility who the hell is using that for that💀

that was her main weakness actually. she couldn't throw loop and she didn't have many frame traps that could beat mashed lights.

Don't forget that besides the nerfs, a lot of characters that got buffs are now better than her. She is actually upper mid or 10th or 11th in top tier. Very noticeable she is a lot weaker in this version.

Really the only difference for me is that I will use 5HP now, and that I'll start my counter di combos with 2HP instead of 5HK.

If your combo starts with DI then it doesn't start with HK, so you shouldn't get the extra scaling.

I know Chun was considered very strong, but I am surprised she got nerfed as if she was a top 3 character. At least Luke got some noticeable damage buffs to his underused specials.

Season one, Japan consensus on her was top 3 alongside Luke and DJ.

If you look at the top level in asia its understandable why alot of japanese players think she's top 3. Moke, leshar, and haitani all got top8 or higher in really stacked tournaments. She kinda just wins neutral with her god jab into immediate corner carry

Could be wrong, but the 4MP cancel change might have been to prevent hitconfirming into a drive rush. Some top level chuns were apparently able to do it somewhat consistently.
