Very versatile pickup, not just a one trick pony, sounds great clean and overdriven. In a strat with a cool rails in the middle is a superb combination!

Depends on the guitar for me. I preferred the Distortion in my Silverburst LP Custom. Nazgul was a bit dark with a hollowness in the mids, but sounds great in my ESP Phoenix.

duncan distortion had more body and oomph, nazgul had a little more headroom. Differences are slight

Both are terrific. But the Nazgul is much more attuned to the needs of modern metal. It's a little lower output than the Distortion but it's also less boomy, and a bit tighter. Has a little less bass. It's designed to retain clarity for down tuning with extremely high gain amps. Try it through a Deizel if you want to hear what it can do. I own a couple Nazguls and about five Distortions, although I mostly use my JBs these days. All are fine pickups.

I have been looking for a pick up set to put into an LTD EC1000. Mahogany body with set neck. I can't get the EMGs out of there fast enough. Curious about the Nazgul/Sentient set for standard b tuned brutal slam death metal.

Distortion has more character imo, nice chunky mutes, chewy midrange. The Nazgûl sounds kind of hollow to me with a very small low end. I would say if you’re playing anything from drop C and up go distortion, and if you’re tuning lower maybe the Nazgûl, I’m betting it will have better clarity with really low tunings.

Nice riffs. Both sound great. I think I kind of prefer the Nazgul in this demo, but I suspect I could just roll the tone and volume off a hair on the Distortion and maybe like it more than the Nazgul. Nazgul sounds less britle, smoother, and lower output. Nice pump to it on teh chugs too. The Distortion is a bit too much output on the clean tones imo.

Nazgul is definitely a tight sounding pickup, but it sounds sterile to me. Besides of one clean part where i liked it better than Distorion, i can't really see a reason why i would buy it instead of SH-6. I think this got me settled. The only question now remaining is, which pickup should i pair it with in the neck? Thank you for this great demo bro, much aprecciated!

The Nazgul is good but I like the Distortion a lot more. My main pickups since 1987 have been either a Distortion, JB or Full Shred.

2 of My Favorite in my Experience they have kind of a Similarity the Nazgul of Course is Darker but I’ve gotten similar tones out of both when installed in the Same Les Paul. But the Sh-6 is a Little Better all Around Humbucker for just about Everything Cleans,Chugging Leads. Extreme Detuning the Nazgul Has a Small Edge but the Sh-6 holds its own in that Department as well Love em Both tuff choice get em both!

Nazgul cleans overall better, because of a5 magnet) Distorted overall better with distortion, but on ovedrive nazgul should sound better. Nagul sound more comlex imho, but...does it djent?! Most difference is magnet, a5 more organic feelings, ceramic stronger, angrier output and sound.

  • @TheReignss

"a5 more organic feelings, ceramic stronger, angrier output and sound." This is simply false. There is no such thing as ceramic being stronger or angrier. Depending on how you design the pickup you can virtually get the same sound from alnico or ceramic magnets. But the industry picked up that false belief so they use it in their marketing (like fishman pickups) which is fraudulent imo.

@@TheReignss @TheReignss Did you tried any mag swaps in your pickups? Actually there is a big difference..and I know it because I had some time playing with magnets.. In same wound pickup compare to a5 ceramic will have much thicker bass, much sharper high end and much more gain. Of course winding means a lot in pickup, but not more than magnet, and ceramic pickups always feels different than a5. I actually never heard close sounding pickups with different magnets. lets say 498t a5 and JB are pretty close. Otherwise sd custom and custom 5, completely different feelings and sound. There always will be different sound with different magnets at least on cleans!
