DiMarzio Vs EMG Vs Seymour Duncan

Comparison video of some of my favourite pickups. It can also be seen as a video of wich guitar pickups that suits these guitars really well. Unfortunately I hadn't time to do it really properly and try the different pickups in the same guitar but it'll show how they sound and the guitars doesn't differ that much except for one.

i like tb-5 so much... very tight and with a lot.of clarity

Thank you! I'm glad to hear that!!! :)
I actually liked the SH-6 Duncan Distortion best.
I have an rg652 as well, but mine has a floating b. Yours has the most beautiful Birdseye fingerboard I’ve seen in these models though. I switched my stocks to sd -59/custom... this video just made me realize my mistake, thx man!
I threw a Tone Zone in the neck of my old Ibanez SZ. Great neck pickup for standard tuning. Even better with the split coil!
I had been thinking about getting the RG652 but now I am for sure!
Thanks! i like Dimarzio tone!

great comparison and great playing.
Nice comparison, but DiMarzio Super Distortion should have been included. Eats EMGs for breakfast

Think I like the SD SH-6 Mayhem Distortion set best. I'm thinking of replacing DM Air Norton/Tone Zone with a set of these.
When you do the stereo clips the guitars are out of phase with each other making it sound extremely thin. I’m assuming you did the fast delay trick panned which can do that. If they were truly double tracked then I’m not so sure, but the solo guitar stereo tracks were definitely out of phase. Nice comparison though! Very helpful.
Thanks so much for making this video! Very helpful! My EMGs are good, but to me the DiMarzios eat both them and the Seymour Duncans for breakfast! Time for a switchout I think!

the first clean chords sounds like Ryche.. and love the Loudness/Akira riffage.. perfect for what I was wanting to hear
Good job, big effort, bravo
EMG 81 is hands down the best for metal and live playing. Tone Zone is a great pickup too and is less tight. It’s very sensitive to circumstances I.e amp, modelling etc. It doesn’t have enough highs and too bassy so straight into a Marshall it’s ok and not as tight. But if you use it with modelling it’s perfect because modelling inherently tends to have a lot of highs.

Damn, thanks for the wisdom…. I have a Schecter reaper 6 and a Katana 100MkII. Been thinking about the tone zone for a minute because a lot of folks say it tames the highs of a swamp ash body… considering I have a modeling amp, your comment made me feel a lot more confident about this purchase
I can't decide between the Dimarzio Crunch Lab or Tone Zone. The Tone Zone is more open but the Crunch Lab is tighter and more defined.

DesertScorpionKSA The Crunchlab is quite versitale actually.
I'm a drummer and am playing guitar here and there. I don't really have that much knowledge when it comes to guitar tone. I usually like playing black metal and some death metal and want to have a good tone. I have a Jackson Randy Rhoad V (it's not a neck-through) but I feel like it's too light weight to hold or sustain a note for a long time and I wanted to get pick ups for it. I'm liking the Dimarzio ToneZone pick ups from what I've heard, but the problem I'm wondering is since my guitar feels VERY light weight, would it not hold/sustain notes for a long time including divebombs & pinch harmonics. Please, any help is appreciated.

That was great!
i don't know if you turned down the amp on the Duncans but they sound way lower in sound than the DiMarzios .
81/60 cleans are the best, even if these are active pickups, they sound amazing
The more I hear emg pickups in demos like this, the more I realize that there more modern pickups the X series and some of their other modernish sounding pickups are very interesting and cool to me. If you want to hear some good modernish sounding emgs with good clean tones, I recommend checking out Chris Letchford"s album lightbox. Idk which brand of pickups I would go with on my dream guitar, but I will for sure check out some newer emgs when I have money for my dream guitar and maybe lots more will be available at that time.
Will the EMG 81 used on a modler be able to hear the diff as compare to a tube amp?
They all sounded good for the most part. I found myself liking more of the EMG passages. All very good though.
Nice gats bro. Tight playing too
Thanks for the review, not a Dimarzio fan but the crunch lab sounded great.

That riff you play is great! I'm assuming that's yours. I like EMGs better. They seem easier to play. It's a little cleaner with compression so the notes are even. But they all sound cool.

I would choose the Dimarzios but the best thing is to try 2 guitars with those pickups and see which you like the most.
Thanks for this. We can definitly hear about the signature of the various pick ups. then it is a matter of taste and personnally I have a preference for the di marzio sound - EMG sounds great in metal rythm - Duncan too much in the mediums for me.

The main reason why I sold my SD Dimebucker is the one you mentioned, it is too medium. I bought it even though I never liked Dime's sound live like, say, the sound of Gary Holt with SD JB (especially at the 2008 Wacken concert, maybe the best sound I've ever heard, after Cannibal Corpse, of course). Here in Serbia, SH 13 is not cheap, it costs around 160 euros new. DiMarzio SuperDistrorsion costs 100 euros new!! I only have BC Rich guitars, on the Jr V NJ Deluxe I have an EMG 81 active but it's tuned in A so it sounds great (I believe that with every pick up it sounds great in A tune hahaha)... For now, I'm going with DiMarzio, I have them on 2 guitars and they sound phenomenal.
Good evening, I have a Guitarra Tagima - "TG530" and would like to know if I buy a DiMarzio Super Distortion Dp218 pickup for the bridge, will it meet the requirements for playing Demons & Wizards or would it be a Seymour Duncan JB JR SJBJ-1B to withstand the aggressiveness of the picks?

crunch lab sounds really good here when it comes to distortion... Sh6 is good too... IMO tone zone lost the battle. I have a tone zone in charvel so cal and it kind of makes me mad :P 81 in my JH-600 is quite ok so I can't complain too much... thinking about a switch to a 57/60 set. Have you tried the X series from EMG? They have the feel of a passive pickup. I don't mean to say that EMG is superior, nor that I have a set installed in my guitar, but from the multiple KZread comparison videos I watched, they sound more responsive than the regular actives that EMG makes. Then again, it's up to preference.

Crunch Lab smoked everything else on that ACDC riff.
i have a '15 652AHM prestige..am more of a jazz/prog freak than a metal guy so the tonezone is just OK, but that air norton is excellent at the neck with sweet harmonics. middle position is outstanding, too oy, those EMGs sounded like sheer boredom on steroids lol the Crunchlab and TB-5 sound like they're hammering with no regard for humanity
I played a Charvel for the first time the other day with DiMarzio. Never played either the pickups or guitar. I was shocked by the harmonics and crazy output. At first I was so in disbelief I thought it must be the amp. Loved the guitar and pickups. Need to find a good Charvel for my collection. This one was orange which is a little loud for my taste. @NiclasKarlssonguitarswe
4 жыл бұрын
I don't know but there's a reason to why they are labeled bridge and neck pickups. You want to have a bit lower output on the neck to balance it with the bridge pickup. But you CAN have a bridge pickup in neck position and the opposite but you have to match the pickups output so they sound harmonic together. It depends on playing style also what you want to achive. But if you are satisfied with a certain combo then it is good! :)
actually, the ideas come from your music tones, and finally you will select which pickup are suits for you..mellow goes to seymour duncan and dimarzio, heavy goes to emg ...

Unfortunately I don't have the other pickups.
Thanx
Dimarzio's are crunchier and seem to be louder in the recordings, so they seem to be over the bass and drums in the mix because of this, so they are featured more. The Seymour Duncans seem to allow the bass guitar frequencies to fill up the guitar tone due to them being a bit more scooped in the mids compared to the Dimarzio's. The SD seems to be lower in the mix a bit due to this feature or design. Emg's sound bad in my opinion, but are somewhat redeemable in a mix.
SH-6 for me, everybody is EMG obsessed. They must be deaf! EMG is over rated way too old school compared to some of the others u got. Di Marzio not bad either!
