Love these tips! I haven’t used a sizer, but definitely pre-washed, used a cutting board, and actually used a cotton fabric interfacing for a bias cut facing (love this stuff on any natural fiber camisoles or tops that are cut on the bias, because the cotton interfacing can also be cut on the bias, add requisite stiffness, shrink accordingly when ironed on with steam, and won’t pucker when washed like woven interfacing). And I always use new needles, clean my machine, etc.

Tea, your skirt is absolutely beautiful and the fit is so flattering. I have similar body shape and size and always appreciate another sewist making and modeling garments that would be flattering on me too! An added bonus is that you’ve already done the hard part (sizing) for those of us interested in your selected sews! As always your review is so informative and helpful! In particular your tip on ironing with spray sizing or starch. While watching, I was so eager to see if you mentioned starch as a tip, because I had just yesterday come across this tip watching a tutorial video for a sewing machine narrow hem foot attachment. After watching, I though 💡 that tip would be so helpful with the entire sewing process when using hard to handle fabrics as you suggested! Thought I had found a secret tip that no one else knew about..But of course, you did!! Again thanks for well done video review..Appreciate your time and effort!

Hi there. New subscriber here. I use most of the tips you mentioned but still hate sewing with rayon. I try to avoid it at all costs. Your skirt and top looked great. Love the thought of a skirt and top in the same fabric.

Hi Denise! Welcome! Thanks for subscribing! I like working with rayon occasionally because it helps me to stay well rounded. I love increasing my skills as a seamstress. But you are right. It's not a fave of mine.

I like rayon crepe but it shrinks a LOT even more than other types of rayon. I always have to size down on rayon knits because the fabric is so stretchy.

I agree! Rayon crepe shrink a lot. I don't like the heavily textured rayon crepes. But I'm ok with soft rayon crepes. The fabric in this video is a Crinkle Rayon Crepe, which is another type of animal 😳 I think the crinkle bit of it is a bit much and that's why I had such a hard time cutting the fabric. Thanks for watching 😁

Great video! Cute skirt! That’s a pattern I’ll have to try. Do you have any more tips for sewing with rayon crinkle? I stay stitched the arm and neck lines but once the tank top was completed, It was still stretched. Any tips? The only tank had a bodice lining which the seam allowance was understitch. I had already removed the stay stitch before that was completed because the seams had been completed. I’d like to try to save this garment 😖 Have a blessed day. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thank you 🙏

Honestly, rayon crinkle is a nightmare because it constantly stretches even after you cut it. I would use tons of starch! Wash it first, per instructions. Cover it in starch and iron it. Try to get it as stiff as possible. If you are cutting out a waistband, use a medium weight Interfacing for the outer band and a lighter weight Interfacing for the inner. It will be impossible to stitch the inner waistband in place without stabilizer. When cutting use a rotary cutter only, so the fabric remains in place. And instead of pins or clips, use pattern weights.Be certain to use the correct needle for your project. If it's a Crinkle Rayon chances are you will need a 70 or 80 needle. I hope all this helps. Good luck!
