Sewing Hack: How to Use a Stapler Instead of Clips for Bag Making
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I haven't had any issues with clips magically flinging themselves across the room when I round corners ever since switching to use a stapler! This quick sewing hack will absolutely take a lot of the pain and frustration of sewing gussets to front and back pieces of structured bags and fling it into the sun!

Silence of the Lambs reference was not something I expected on my bag sewing journey, but I fucking love it.
I have Always done this on corner and difficult angles. With total success.
Best tip ever for my lazy self.
Loved the “it rubs the lotion on its skin” reference. You’re hysterical. LOL

Ya know, I tried to dial back my personality and just be very "stiff" early on when recording for YT. Now I don't bother. If I say something too silly or ramble a lot, I will stop and redo that section of the video, but most of the time I leave my quips in place.
Clicked on this by accident but you get a like for catching me off guard and making me laugh out loud with the movie reference... I'm not into needle point, but hitting that like button was worth it, despite the "en-sewing" barrage of videos I'll no doubt get

This is me, but with pimple popping videos just because of that one time I accidentally clicked on someone trying to rip their face off with masking tape.
Boat upholstery is also a cool place to use the pliers style staplers. I use them in bags too. Great tool!
I’ve started making structured bags recently and am binging your channel - you have amazing tips, thank you!
I machine baste the straight parts first so then I only have to worry about the curves- whether I’m gonna hand baste or staple.
I love the idea... I'll try it on a bag I'm making... Sometimes it happens to me that when I'm removing the clips it moves and then I have excess fabric or it's assembled poorly and the result doesn't look very good. Thank you to share
Fabulous and timely advice. I am just about to start a bag in that style and I am new to vinyl, and, armed with my also new industrial walking foot machine I shall walk into battle better armed now. Wahoo 🎉
Man, I just love watching your videos! So informative and you crack me up!
Aluminum sock clips might also work and be easier to remove as you go.

Great! I would of loved to have see you actually sew with the staples in. 😊

Ahhh ok! Yeah I can catch a clip of that for you. I don’t hit them with the needle and I make sure the flat side is down so they don’t scratch the machine.
I like using Wawak's Hyperstrong Leather/vinyl double sided tape! It works wonders!
Love your bag tutorials. Thank you. I'm just learning and just got a Janome M7.

Oh wicked! Full disclosure: I sold my M7 but that's only because I found I wasn't using as many of the features as I could if I were doing more quilting work. I sold it and dropped down to the HD9. Then of course a year later I started making fashion doll clothing and realized "oh hey, I can't zig-zag" ... so now I have a Bernette B38 on top of the HD9.
We also use that technique for velvet when it creeps against each other and slides. also for heavy duty stuff at the upholstery shop. :)
Great Idea I “might” try it one day lol thank you 😊
Great tip, thank you!!!
Was just watching the Thread video you did a while back and knowing of your recent move, that there is an Online only thread company in Ashville. It's "The Thread Exchange" that does have an Appointment Only option and sales that's open to the public a few times a year. Shipping is very fast & for me in VA, it's 2-3 days later I receive my order.

You are the best! This will help me so much. ❤
Great idea! I have never done it. Can't wait to hear what others have done.
Entertaining and informative. Love your videos and your humor
Great tips! Thank u so much
I use a magnetic staple remover along with my pliers for the staples that are just a little extra help leaving my bags.

I think of it as how I sign my work.
Call me crazy, but I prefer hand-basting to staples because I hate removing them.

Not bonkers at all! I've tried basting, too. Sadly, the clips still just pop and slip off as I round corners and such. I've had a lot of luck with using the jewelry plyers to get the staples out quickly and without damaging the fabric.

I agree, I baste by hand too (long stitches, also known as tacking) for sewing spots where magic clips are unsuitable. But I haven’t sewn bags with vinyl, leather yet so may change my mind, if using those.
Have you hit a staple with your needle?

Not YET....
At 1:00 you make a statement that I beg you to retract. You state "You know, you could yell and cuss and stomp your feet. That's always an option." An OPTION???!!! That's the very ESSENCE of how I make bags!! Please re-record and remove that statement before my lovely wife sees it and suggests that I change my usually vocal method for construction. ((Thanks again for great content, my orange stapler's about to have a new home.))
