You could laminate the instructions and use the guide on the 1/4” on the instructions

Fyi...you actually used the ¼"- instead of the true quarter in on the ruler 😊

Great idea, except for one thing: if you take the purple guides off, does it leave a residue?

Christine Watson I haven’t noticed a residue, but if there was one I’d take it off with Goo Gone or something similar.

Those are Sewing Edge strips. I have some right now on my site now but you can also look at your local quilt shop or do a google search. Here's a link to them on my site: www.pieceocake.com/shop/c/p/Sewing-Edge-Vinyl-Strips-x31059576.htm

Do you piece quilt blocks with a 1/4 inch or scant? If I used 1/4 inch my blocks would be too small. Also, I have this tape but don't have markings for 1/4 inch on throat plate (older 90's Husqy), would i line it up with the edge of the presser foot after having moved the needle over to where i know it is a scant 1/4 inch and then apply the tape? ( I don't wish to buy the ruler thingy....)

Always remember that the thread takes up space in the seam allowance. I sew with a scant 1/4” which makes room for the top and bobbin thread in the seam allowance. You don’t have to use a ruler. You can mark a scant 1/4” line on paper and use it the same way. I don’t use the edge of my presser foot very often. My Bernina’s have a little mark on the bed of the machine in front of the right side of the presser foot that is accurate. I use that to feed the fabric under the foot. The edge of the foot is helpful, but not where I focus my attention. I hope this helps :-).

Hi Becky. Thank you for this. Can you tell me if the strip !eaves a sticky residue when removed? 🥰 Iris

Mine didn't but if it had, I'd use a little bit of Goof Off on a paper towel to remove it.

Thanks. I bought this tool and the book together from something I read online, and then wondered why this was necessary or how the tool works. Now that I've opened the package and watched this video, I've learned that the 'card' inside the package opens up and has instructions on it! Duh!

Didn't you just measure a scant 1/4". The mark on the ruler has minus mark?

The thing to remember is that the sewing thread occupies space in the seam allowance. The 1/4" actually begins where the needle enters the fabric. The 1/4" line on the tool needs to be under the needle when you mark the right edge of the tool. I hope that makes sense...

So for 1/4 inch your fabric is going over just one set of teeth….

No, at least half of the right feed dog does fall under the right side of the 1/4" foot on this machine (which has 5mm feed dogs). On a machine with 9mm feed dogs, it is a different story.
