One of the best thunderstorm video's ever. Have watched this several times, simply because its so crazy. We never, ever get anything even half this bad in the united kingdom. Am a real fan of thunderstorms! Love 'em. Great video, keep up the good work.

At the surface, I would say the peak gusts during the storm were between 35-40mph. At higher elevations, like at the top levels of some of the high rise buildings, as well as in areas where the wind was being funneled between two buildings, the speeds were probably a bit higher.

Why is the audio so creepy? There's almost a whistling tone coming from it as if the camera mic got some water in it. This makes it unusually hard to listen to with headphones, and I usually love to listen to storms. Otherwise, that was intense. I've been through storms like this in Hollywood, fl where I grew up. I should say I lived there until I was 6 and a half years old. I remember those days when lightning used to make that buzzing sound all the time when it hit our house, because we had those lightning rods and the electricity wouldn't harm us when it hit our house on several occasions. It sure would scare me, because I still had light perception, and I thought I was getting those bright flashing lights in my eyes from acute Glaucoma.

I've been in lots of heavy storms in FL, but one in downtown St. Petersburg just freaked me out when your surrounded by 30 story lightning rods, and that echo off the buildings reverberates down the block, spooky!!!

i want that kind of loud thunderstorm in Bruges were the lightning just strikes everywere. i like loud thunder en insane lightning and i love thunderstorms that are loud and produces intense lightning wich is positive that have a blue color. blue is the most dangerous lightning there is and wil mean that it is positive, meaning the thunder is extremely loud and the lightning can make damage like fire in a tree and even a house thats going to burn and we had once a storm in Bruges were that type of storm realy happened, but that was in 2006 were i didn't realy have a camera in my hands and also had no youtube. and i miss those type of dangerous storms; it was very exiting, even a bit of scary and i had like the fear that the lightning would strike our house but it didn't luckly. but i rather have that type of crazy thunderstorms wich pumps your adrelaline rush then a average thunderstorm wich goes away in like a flash and never produce positive strikes even some of them are. the closest i can get to this same storm is 28 July 2014 were the thunder just beeing continious but i didn't see much lightningstrikes and the color was definetly not blue. its gotta be crazy but i want the same storms we had in 2006 were it was very creepy and awesome. iv'e had it with boring normal thunderstorm that produce positive lightningstrikes for like five or four. i want thunderstorms producing lightning wich that every lightningstrike is postive (meaning blue and loud). i think this storm was positive in this video. i guess bleu lightning is rather very rare now these days in Bruges. one or two in a storm, thats it. if someone see some horrible mistakes about the thunderstorms or you have intresting story's comment me. also check my videos, i have plenty of thunderstorm videos (sometimes there were positive flashes in there as well, but not that much).

I know it's a late reply, but I know what you mean. I've had brontophobia (fear of thunder, although I think yours may be astraphobia?) since 2001, and I can trace it back to a particularly violent single-cell storm that hit overhead for no more than 30 minutes. It sounded like bombs going off! We're not used to it here at all, which makes sense that I developed the fear at that point. It's strange to me that someone may not have a reference point for their fear, because I'm used to having one.
