Ok since everyone is now seeing this. I am a meteorologist. 1.) Windows shattered to either pressure drop for tornado or strong winds 2.) Seeing a funnel from close range in a very dense suburban area is hard, as it is obstructed and reshaped by buildings 3.) Most tornado warnings are from radar, so there may have been spinning in the atmosphere hinted at by a vorticity couplet, but no actual tornado 4.) I believe there wasn’t, look how little the truck moved. Likely a downburst, but still very cool!

Bruh y’all having second guesses if this a tornado or not. We never have tornados in New York, at least not that I know of. Also, yes to some of you it might look like a tornado because it’s spinning or whatever, but it’s just the rain with a lot of wind, we don’t really see it as a big problem because we know it’s gonna go in like 5 minutes and then it’s gonna be back to normal

Creepy how it hits out of nowhere! Makes me wonder if there was even a chance to warn anyone b/c of the amount of people and traffic that were seemingly not in any more of a hurry than normal. That seemed to change rather quickly with the first good lightning strike/thunder clap, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't laugh just a bit knowing I would most likely have the same reaction! Hearing the glass break and seeing the debris was amazing for the location; it seemed to vanish as fast as it started too.

+CarlsCustomCreations Statistically there are more tornadoes in Texas than other states simply because of its vast size, and it falls in the southern central areas of the Tornado Alley. However, rarely do tornadoes hit major cities or towns because most of Texas is pretty rural and sparse in population density. We did have plenty of supercell thunderstorms that produced hail and strong winds and tornado watch was in progress, but no tornado touched down. The last tornado we received in FT Worth was in March 2000, but that was before I was even there lol

Ridin' a bicycle in a tornado or even a storm is a FREAKY idea I would not contemplate for myself. Excellent Video!
For anyone who says that this wasn't a tornado, here is the definition: A rotating column of air ranging in width from a few yards to more than a mile and whirling at destructively high speeds, usually accompanied by a funnel-shaped downward extension of a cumulonimbus cloud. This was a rotating column of air containing several vortexes whirling at destructively high speeds.

WOW!! That was really something! I'm surprised the power stayed on. The traffic lights didn't miss a beat. It's a good thing you were safe inside. You did a great job of capturing the storm's fury.

Rare video of tornado in the city! Amazing footage loved it! Couldn't imagine how scary this would have been for those people stuck in that.
I got this recommended ten years later.
I come back to this video sometimes. Still love it
Nature can be beautiful and frightening at the same time. Love it.
To everyone waiting for the tornado, skip to 1:20. There's certainly a lot of rain rotation, but that might just be a gustnado at worst.

Well, that escalated quickly. Watched again to see the window get busted out. Wow, amazing capture. Whomever shot this video I can say I would be filming like this too. I’m totally fascinated with NYC. Great job. (Not to mention this was on my Birthday)

Nice to have seen a few minutes of NY. Thanks
Wow! In a case like this, best place to duck into, if close by, is a subway station entrance. There are here, one on each corner of the intersection.
Outstanding weather video. Thanks.
What a BEAUTIFUL video.
Reading these comments and I’m sure these people had no idea but look how quickly life goes back to normal afterwards.

I don’t see how people in the comments say “that’s not a tornado!”. It was definitely a swirl of wind! And created damage! Tornadoes can briefly spin-up on storm fronts.
@leareed3749

That's not a technical tornado though. A tornado is formed through a supercell. A mezocyclone etc Waterspouts, dirtdevils and swirls of wind technically aren't cyclones lol

Not completely accurate. Tornadoes can briefly spin-up on storm fronts! Tornadoes are not completely exclusive to Super-cells!

Outer bands of a hurricane can have tornadoes. Those are not super-cells or mesocyclones.
I agree that is a tornado. These storms are very fast and sometimes dangerous. This tornado looked like it was rain wrapped. We've had waterspouts that have moved onshore here in Florida. Just last year we had a ef3 tornado here in Seminole. Tornadoes have circular motions and can be hard to spot if there's rain around it. Thank you for the video🥰

And yes. An ef0 which will blow things around. It could have been worse.
I remember this day so well. I was on the B52 bus in Brooklyn on my way home from work when it hit. I knew something was unusual about the whether when I walk out of the building of my place of employment. It was muggy, cloudy & the sky had a weird light green tint. While on the bus, it got very dark outside and then it hit. You can hear branches hitting the bus as they fell off the trees, the bus driver had to slow down the speed of the bus. It came and went so quickly and then the sun came out. The damage was crazy! Huge trees were all over the road on Gates Ave in Bedstuy, BK. The bus driver had to reroute the bus. It was scary but amazing at the same time.
That dummy in the clothing store window across the street serves a good lesson as to why you shouldn't stand next to windows during a tornado. Imagine if that had been a person - yyeeouch!

tarkushead: yep and she was also lighter than a person which makes a difference. But still yes, good point. Glass can cut you up pretty good when under influence of wind.
Beautiful neighborhood! Great job filming, too. Don't hear any sirens wailing right before it hit. Were people warned?

There should be Air Raid / Civil Defense sirens that can be used for ANY emergency in every City no matter where in the Country whether is in Tornadosville Kansas, 20 feet of Snow Maine, or Smogsville New York
No one believed me that day. I live in Lincoln Place. This storm caught my sons and I. We had garage cans hitting us. Rock size hail. The gutter filled so quickly with water. I had to hold a wrought iron fence and put my sons between my arms. I had to scream just for them to hear me. We made it into the vestibule and we all cried. My sons face looked like hit was hit. Crazy experience.
Best tornado video I'd ever seen!
Really cool footage!!
