Theory: Gemma was a Lumon employee before she met Mark, and was sent to get Mark to join through seduction methods up-to and including the eventual fake death which she probably didnt know about, why kill her off though? Cause she actually started liking Mark and life outside Lumon. Gemma is just another persona like Ms. Casey, and is being used as a Russian sparrow (like in JLaws Red Sparrow movie), hence the Soviet watch gift we see Outtie Mark put in the locker... But why Mark? IDK, but it definitely has something to do with how good at data sorting he is and why his boss stalks him outside of work...

@@haterhayder There are problems with that theory. First of all, we know Gemma was a teacher, not a Lumon employee. And even if she was, would she have hidden that important information from Mark? They by all accounts had a very loving and close relationship. I just don't buy his wife going behind his back like that. In my opinion, that accident was real. Lumon owns that town, they may have an arrangement with the hospital regarding comatose and near death patients. The hospital could have told Mark that his wife was too horribly burned/disfigured in the accident for him to be able to see her, and hence have a closed casket/cremation funeral, but she wasn't dead, and actually taken by Lumon, instead. His boss stalks him outside of work because she wants to see if Mark shows any signs of remembering Gemma.

I was surprised when you said that you were disappointed by the finale on your first viewing. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, and kept hoping it wouldn’t end yet 🙂 This episode was incredible.

I am so happy they made Marks sister ACTUALLY believe him. If this show was written by anyone else there would have been a very stupid and easy to solve "miscommunication" at that moment and they would have ended the sever there, forcing us to wonder if they believe him next season. That would have been a shitty cliff hanger, so mad respects to the writers for NOT using that stupid trope which is in every other media since 1980s...

@@themiddleman781 OMG so its not jus me haha, that shit drives me up the wall man! SO infuriating and yet so pervasive...always felt like lazy writing and getting a cheap rise from people. Kinda like the clock tic toc sounds in every movie trailer nowadays!

I want to know what Lumon, a pioneer in biotechnology, is doing with water. They spent a lot of time setting up shots that feature the Lumon water tower, and if you go back to Ricken’s very first “non-dinner dinner party,” the only thing on the table in front of everyone is water. Is that why everyone seems so full of dumb beliefs and are overly self-interested? Is it why Petey really started breaking down in Mark’s bathroom at the sink and then even worse in the shower? And is this why severed workers need to wash their hands 10 times per day while at work? (hand washing is specifically outlined in the Macrodata Refiners Handbook) Even the Lumon logo is a drop of water, so there is something lurking there.

@@themiddleman781 I mean, why else would computer data workers be required to wash their hands 10 times per 8-hr work day? The company that started out as a topical salve company figured out that controlling (and contaminating) a water supply might be the easiest way to keep people compliant and suggestible. The Lexington Letter writer did say all the answers were in the employee handbook.

And both admit to not like the painting, but only because they’re worried Kier might slip 😂 (E4 “The You You Are”)

I haven’t been impressed with a single season of television since Westworld Season 1. The reveal of Ms. Casey to be Mark’s wife was almost up to par as Bernard being a host in Westworld.

Saw somewhere in either a video or a comment (can't remember, could have been one of yours) where it was suggested Freeze Frame could be what accounts for all of these "car accidents". And, that Glasgow probably relates to Glasgow coma scale. One of the best comments I read somewhere though had to do with Milchick. Some people have theorized that Milchick could be Dylan's partner on the outside, or a neighbor, or at a minimum someone his "outie" knows well. They think this because Dylan's child listened to him without going to his dad first; and because when Dylan reverted to his outie he looked at Milchick and said "We done here?" Not who the heck are you? or something similar. I think that is a crazy good (and brilliant pick-up) theory. And, to add to that it has me wondering: is Milchick "assigned" to watch Dylan just as Cobel watches Mark and if so, who's watching Irv?

I think “Harmony” is playing the long game. Clearly something happened in her past (maybe with her Mother and a faulty feeding tube) and she is out for revenge. I think that’s her twisted motivation to get back inside Lumon at the end. She shows us glimpses of her personality switching but she has to stay concealed, selectively severed so to speak, for now. That explains her fascination with watching the fraternization and not really doing anything. It’s Milchick that seems to be more take charge in those instances.

Cool breakdown! I I wish season two were here already!

I really wanna know who was holding the control switches when Milchick went to Dylan. In the next episode we hear Milchick tell Dylan Cobel did NOT know. So the 2nd person was not her. The only other person we know is Graner (he wasn't dead yet), so who was helping him? Ms. Casey is dead to the outside world so they can't allow anyone to see her. She has no outie. She's a part-time innie who lives there and never leaves. When Cobel orders Milchik to send her back down to the testing floor she sheds a tear, likely because she knows she is going to be clean-slated again (wiped out, killed, and reborn having to start all over). This is why I think the numbers might be them coding the chips with human emotions otherwise how do they explain that tear? Edit: Doesn't match with Lexington letter, I know.

At the gala, there was a scene where Gabby was on the phone, and then she turned to her husband and said: "She forgot the bottle". I think she was referring to her Innie, who is looking after her children, and who is actually a clone. The goats are also clones, IMO. I think this whole experiment is about cloning people and giving their clones an Innie personality.

I think it's *possible* that Irv got severed strictly so he could investigate Lumon/severance employers. Military background in his family makes it not a long stretch to think he could be ex-military and/or law enforcement/FBI.

I think Gemma has something to do with the "revolving". I'm not quite sure yet how she plays a part, but primarily that she's some sort of Beta version of a technology now perfected that would allow life after death. If the flesh can be reanimated (Gemma), maybe Lumon was just waiting for "soul/consciousness" transference to come along which may tie into the tech used during severence. It's a a super long shot, but again... it would be cool! 🧐

Brent, why don’t we send you to the break room. The Board is unhappy that you were not right on point with your assignment, staring at the screen, editing your Severance video and adding in inappropriate jokes that I like to hear! Okay, since you are a man and I have some sort of mysterious connection to you (speaking as Cobell), I will let you pass with a wellness visit. Seriously, though. With two more of our favorites coming to a season finale, including From, what are we to do?! I personally haven’t bothered you the past few days because of a nasty GI infection. Anyway, this episode had me glued and I felt like I was running around in my innie self and holding those two knobs (no pun intended) 😂 myself. This episode raced us to the finish and I LOVED it! As far as adding to your analysis, I’m not quite hydrated enough yet to give my prospective. I’ve stated watch Halo on Paramount +. It’s got an interesting actress as the protagonist (a British actress - she’s actually done a lot of good work but I don’t know her name). I think we are at episode three and it is turning out to be more than I expected. Oh, and it has Cortana! I don’t know if it is too Sci-fi for you though. Give me some more shows, MM. As a retired middle man, I need to keep this here brain busy and keep from turning those nobs! …the goats, by the way, I think are being used in testing. Possibly, Lumen is bringing them back from the dead.

Lumon=Google. Mark, Helly, etc are advanced prototype AI's. The goat tender is an early prototype which had the relatively simple task of tending goats, but you see it has a tenuous time doing so. The implanted chips allow the AI's to temporarily escape the "Hell" of Lumons Techno-Slavery, where Helly tells the gala audience Lumon has them as "Slaves down there". Hellys father and the other Kiers are reminiscent of the old man at the end of "2001, A Space Odyssey". The creators of the created.

what i found wheird is that, he was having such a hard time keeping those switches on, why didn't he just use like a rubber band and tie it up to the on position ? the handles where right there 🤣

With you on the “revolving” being a transfer of consciousness…most likely Kier is still in charge in James body and belly will be next in line. There is something weird about Rickens followers, they seem infantile…like maybe they are freshly severed.

There are definitely NOT severed. Severance is a procedure carried out by Lumon Industries on its employees. None of Rickon's friends work for Lumon. Where would they have gotten it done? And for what purpose? Also, Rickon's friends would be the "outties", not the "innies. Again, since they don't work for Lumon they do not have access to the technology and no reason to do it. besides, most of them seem to be against severance.

@@8698gil I think you assume (as do I perhaps) that this tech hasn’t leaked out or been copied. For example one of the founding scientists has been reversing the procedure (with limited success lol) on the outside under lumens nose. I admit it’s probably a long shot that they have had the procedure, perhaps they were test subjects that didn’t work out? The gentlemen that takes credit for finding the baby is just acting way too weird for a grown man, something is up

How many times has Irv been "Branch Transferred"? He painted the testing floor with the elevator light illuminated (security?); He oversees Mark's orientation of Helly (Department Chief); Did he and Burt previously work together in MDF or O&D? Was Irv Petey's "best friend"? And were Irv, Petey, and Burt working together in the past on uncovering what was happening at Lumen?

Can't see this mentioned anywhere else so here goes: OK so we know that Harmony Cobel is chipped, her name is on the wall of the security office as a person who's undergone the severance procedure. What if she's not chipped in the typical sense and instead she's Harmony Cobel while she's at Lumon but she's Charlotte Cobel when she leaves the office. Thry are still mother and daughter and Charlotte is dead but Charlotte is the digital version captured by the chip recording her life. The hospital bracelet we see says Charlotte Cobel d.o.b. 3-17-44, the picture of the pigtailed girl at Myrtle Eagan camp isn't Harmony, it's Charlotte. She would have been a child in the late 50's / early 60's which is when I think that photo is from. Think about the differences in the character at work and at home. At home she acts and dresses much older (and also wears the pigtails of her childhood), she's very maternal as indicated by her actions with the baby. Harmony hates what was done to her by Charlotte so she's interested in reintegration as a way to undo it, Charlotte is the Eagan cultist which is why she's desperate to save a company that just canned her. This also relates to what Jame Eagan says to Helena at the gala, "you'll be NEXT TO ME at my revolving". He means literally next to him in the same head. It's an immortality game. I also think the board are all digital composites of former CEO's which is why we don't see them physically. Pending results of the field test and legalisation of the procedure, they'll be back in bodies (maybe of Eagan descendants). Long story short, the Eagan family through Lumon is looking to create a population of devoted worker drones to see them as god-kings of a new utopia. Hence the 'Beehive' protocol.

Baby Goats are Called Kids. Seeing that we saw a birthing center and two human babies in the season and found out Dylan has kids on the outside….. Somehow it’s all related. When Innie Mark called her Mrs Corbel on the outside. My jaw dropped. And how in the hell did Milchik get to go to Dylan’s house so easily? Dylan’s wife just let Milchik wake him up in a closet? The kid seemed too comfortable about Milchik being in the closet with his dad. And why didn’t Milchik fight back when Dylan bit him? These two are related somehow, or very close in the outside world.

Milchick went to Dylan's home because he wanted to talk to his outtie to see if Dylan had brought that card from work home with him. When Dylan's outtie didn't know anything about it, Milchick probably suggested that they go into a closet so he could talk to Dylan's innie, because he didn't want Dylan's innie to see his kid. We don't even see Dylan's wife at all. She's got nothing to do with that situation. And that kid was only about 5 years old. He's just being a kid, he thinks they are playing a game, that's all. What do you mean, why didn't Milchick fight back? What did you expect him to do? Dylan obviously overpowered him.

@@_VICK_ yup I agree. And good point with all the kids/ babies/ birthing centers. Also how are Ricken and Devon able to afford the fancy birthing retreat plus a full time doula? Also the fact that Ms. Cobel/ Mrs. Selvig seems to have actual knowledge and experience in latching/ breastfeeding... were there wet nurses at Lumon? Maybe she was in charge of them. I definitely get whiffs of the Handmaid's Tale all throughout the season. Also, baby goats, kids, Irv's "hey kids what's for dinner?"

Coming back here because I just started watching severance. Where did the middle man go? Outtie, bring him back!

I think next season's finale will be a violent Battle Royale type episode because I think MDR takes information from the brain chips and makes the chips stable by batching scary emotional data away. The MDR team during the season will refuse to work causing glitches in each chip that will turn all severed employees violent.

Why would irv need to reach his innie. The outtie can just quit. Also I don't think Cobel hid the baby to make her getaway. It wasn't like they were going to all start chasing her to begin with. Devin gave her the baby and she basically just tossed it in a room because she wanted to leave. Pretty sure revolving is having their consciousness implanted in a new body. Cobel is helping because she wants back in and she wants to show them that Milcheck who she believes betrayed her before costing her job is a screwup. She obviously has some other agenda at Lumon who don't know yet but all her experiments are personal in nature. She is trying to prove people can be unsevered so maybe her mom or someone is severed and she wants to unsever them I dunno. I would imagine Burt was forced to retire because the timing was just too specific. I think Mark screaming she's alive is pretty obvious since he is holding the wedding picture. Like nobody thought the child was dead. Maybe they are cloning the goats or doing chip implants on them to practice the revolving.

@@themiddleman781 I suppose that Irv rebelled before and got his mind erased and maybe the outtie is hoping to wake the innie to those erased memories and that knowledge. Maybe those memories come to the outtie as he dreams and that is how he knows something about what is going on down there. Or maybe Irv's outtie is just soo haunted by the nightmares of what happened down there he tries to avoid sleep. I could see it going either way.

Also, I don't think Gemma came back from the dead, I think Lumon faked her death and kidnapped her to be a permanent Innie, because they wanted his knowledge and expertise from whatever he was working on at the university, so they staged Gemma's death so he would be so depressed he'd get severed and be in their pocket, and probably manipulated it so a Lumon ad would play at just the right time to influence him into doing so, like with the bus driver.

I think there really was a car crash. Lumon may have a deal with the hospital regarding comatose and/or near death patients. Mark could have been told she died and was too badly burned/disfigured for viewing. That would explain how she could have had a funeral without Mark seeing her body. But she was actually in a coma, and Lumon took her. Staging an accident in the off chance that Mark "might" also get severed is too much of a long shot. I think they grab people in accidents and use them for experimentation. Mark's getting severed afterward was a coincidence. Once it happened, Ms. Cobel decided to study Mark and see if he would remember anything about his dead wife.

Love the video! And love reading everyone's take in the comments! I think all of Ricken's friends are severed - and I don't think they know it (at least not all of them). Remember when you get "clean slated" you literally get wiped. At least that was my take. Rebeck maybe recently due to the injury on her head "from her bird". Patton is like an eager to please child (like all innies think Peggy) "I found the baby! It was me who found her!", except he actually didn't. Either Ricken or Devon is a severed Eagan who has no memory, probably bc Lumen couldn't find it in them to kill them but knew if they remembered anything they'd trash the company and/or spill secrets. Goats all over their house and Ricken is just strange. In the perpetuity wing Irv said one of the Eagan's was the black sheep of the family. Devon or Ricken may be the child or grandchild of that Eagan. Just a hunch.

What if Dylan fillip everyone switch. switching everyone from outie to inni or from innie to outie. So everything they have severed has to be redone.

“Her little eyes”.. yikes. I can’t help but love Rebeck’s earnest calm innocence; in contrast to capitalist competitive performative ambition. She changes her name since she has agency over her identity, aka herself; vs so many people in this show. It’s another huge contrast. She owns herself, and as such is free to self identify, to decide what and how and when she is “transformed”; yet in our culture this is wrote mocked. We are being challenged and allowed to be active viewers, vs passive; making statements about changing her name and feeling transformed is dismissed as flighty amidst a sea of people who’s selves and identities are decided by institution.

Know that Innie Irv has never driven? He has never left the Severed floor of Lumon. I point out that he had muscle memory taking over, but the Innie version has never driven.

Possibly. I don't think it was random that she ended up there. It was planned and I suspect the car accident was staged

I still don't understand why the innies are so unhappy. You signed up for it even if you don't remember. Plus you have an opportunity to win a waffle party which is the greatest reward ever.

An excellent premise and an excellent show, all filmed during the “covid” lockdown, ever member of the crew warring masks the entire time, 😂

I have to wonder if oHelly will want to personally interrogate iMark and iIrving to find out exactly what they did. That would make for some interesting and tense dialogue. oHelly must be furious!

@@8698gil also I doubt iHelly will be going back to work anyway since her job and the Friends of Lumon event completed. Especially in light of what transpired. How else will the actress be worked into the show?

Best part is always when you rerfer to bring it back to bad marriages. I want to start predicting how you'll throw it into your next video. So, it's a couple days after Easter and it got me thinking about Ricken's book and how the innies reacted to it. I think it might be a statement on religion and the bible. I can't tell if that's super obvious or super out there so i'll just leave that one there. Oh, and I slightly disagree about Helly's initial reaction to figuring out who she is. I agree she sees the opportunity to take down the company, but I think that pales in comparison to realizing how awful she really is. And speaking of disgust, her father's hatred for innies totally mirrors the video of oHelly telling iHelly that she's not a person. Damn, that was long.

@@themiddleman781 In episode 4 when Cobel gives Milchick the chip he says “thats Petey?” I also think her proof of reintegration are his/combined Peteys memories-which she planned to show to the board. I believe this will be developed at the next season

Thx for the smart and funny video. I'm glad you said you were a bit disappointed in the last episode. My partner and I were too. There were some evil corporate thriller tropes plus fired weirdo Harmony having easy access to such an important event was a stretch. They would have way more intense security with so many bigwigs. It grew on me more too with a 2nd viewing. Also it was too short. 🧐 what if outie Irv is PTSD ex-military and semi-violent or threatening? That would be pretty amazing. I'm kinda scared for Burt.

I think Irv used to have Milchicks job. The red arrow is off when you walk down the hallway to testing and turns on when you get in. He could’ve only seen it if he was the one bringing people there. Irv helped Pete get reintegrated so they wiped his memory and demoted him. That’s why Pete told Mark “you’re my very good friend”. Because his best friend was actually Irv. I think management is chipped.
