Detectors were detecting ONLY written symbols, not taped items. Helly was able to bring her resignation tape without alarms going off. They found a loophole in the system and could use it later in season 2

Hmm, not sure you would even need that explanation. Seemed clear they did not care if she walked out with that. Given now that we know she is a member of the family, there was never really any chance she was going to accept that resignation from her innie. For me an interesting aspect is that it doesn't appear that there is some technology that has ever caught someone that we have seen on screen. It's always another human that thinks there is some magic thing that'll detect it. Although I guess we did get some indication from Adam Scott that may have happened to him before. But my point stands we have not seen it on screen actually detect anything

Hey guys, about that Code Detector: Theory 1: If it actually exists, does it detect digital codes? Because Helly R. leaves with a CD or DVD in her hand, after she threatened to cut her fingers off. They could've manually disabled the Code Detector for that moment, but, if the Code Detector just doesn't detect digital codes, then it would've been possible for Petey to smuggle out the Tape, without triggering it. Theory 2: The Code-Detector is actually not in the elevator. The Elevator just triggers their brain-implant, which then analyzes the brain activity and finds out, if the person smuggling knows he is smuggling something. Which would mean, as long as the person smuggling something doesn't know their smuggling something, they can get anything out and into the office. It just has to be someone else putting it into their pocket without their knowledge. Theory 3: The Code-Detector is total bullshit. Lumon just knows that new Employees will try to smuggle out info in their first few days they're in there. So they surveil them very closely and trigger the Code-Detector manually, to make them believe the detector is actually catching it all. Just some thoughts!

No the detector is real. They found out the woman from the Lexington letters has been communicating with the inner self

Devon is DEFINITELY not Marks sister, every convo between them is like, remember how were siblings or remember when we were kids or gee I'm your sister. At first I thought it was just TV show exposition, but it's overboard. And the fact that she's the only one that seems normal among Rick(N.), Pat(N.), Rebeck(A.), and all the rest of the clearly mind controlled/wiped/severed crew

The monkey experiment you mentioned is a thought experiment, not an actual experiment. It's in the same category as "if you give a monkey a typewriter..." ~

I’ve heard that something’s in the soap. Lumon began as a topical pharmaceutical company and soap is technically a topical. The handbook also reminds employees to frequently wash their hands. I think the technology doesn’t work (or maybe doesn’t work as well) without the Lumon topicals. I’m really interested to see what Lumon was like before the chips invention. What the hell are they putting in the salve that supposedly helped soldiers during the Civil War?

Great discussion and theories. A lot of stuff I had never considered in this. These theory videos are keeping me alive until season 2. I am watching the show for the 4th time now and I just cannot wait for season 2. I'm actually hoping its just one episode per week so that we can appreciate the show until we hopefully get a season 3.

I just wanna say this thing about the restaurant scene with Petey. Mark is sitting there alone, Ms Cobel calls him and asks him where he is. As soon as he says 'i'm at Pips, I must hang up now the food is arriving soon" (or something like that), Petey appears who tells him to hang up the phone. It's suspect as fuck.

I agree i think Mark’s sister disagrees with severance and maybe she was made aware that re-integration was possible and was slowly trying to help Petey introduce it to Mark

Damn, you guys kind of convinced me that Devon knew Petey and worked with him. It fits. But it could also just be the kind of coincidence that just pushes the story forward.

6:45 "if petey was severed, he would have no idea what the cubist art movement was." Though I agree that Petey was already reintegrated, I'm not sure about that reasoning. They have knowledge of many outside things. Take, for instance, Dylan's fantasies about muscle shows and milfs. Though neither exist down there, Dylan has the general cultural knowledge to know what those are. It seems as though Lumon erases a person's lived experiences, and also any information that would interfere with their propaganda, but that's it. So they erase all religion in order to replace it was Keir, but they don't erase the state of Delaware.

This seems like it might be a very complex way to treat complex trauma. Severing the self to get time and space away from the constant dissociation and panic. Children who are traumatized can sever their self into fragments to deal with the trauma. One person can only take so much before it becomes so complex that healing must be as complex or it will not work. You have to almost trick people into healing because their brains are so overwhelmed with too much traumatic stress for too long. That said. The whole thing is a simulation, including the people who know what is happening. The brain is being given challenges and mysteries for the brain to solve. This could also be reorienting their brain pathways for their traumatic experiences to be integrated. Someone requires A LOT of information and beyond a life time to process complex trauma. A simulation would probably make that a much shorter time. The idea is to get space from the traumas. When you awake. Your brain has completely changed because of all the new information and experiences you acquired in the simulation. The simulation makes you want to escape and understand what is happening. The program is designed to reintegrate senses and feelings. They are all given mundane calming tasks. This is how a brain heals. It s also interesting that they are trying to save themselves....their severed selves. When they awake, it will be because they figured out what is going on. It will feel like years have passed in minutes. They will have more perspective and a whole new brain to process their original trauma. That is my take on it. Why else would anything this elaborate exist? Because complex trauma requires complex solutions.

You think Lumon cares about treating trauma? They sure *create* a lot of trauma. The original Eagan, Kier, *might* not have been malicious and concerned with the mind, but his stuff seems more about some sort of reaching a higher state of consciousness or whatever ("and the world shall become but your appendage"), rather than psychological healing. "They are all given mundane calming tasks." Calming? Mundane? Did...did you watch the show?

@@wawawuu1514 Finding the numbers that make you feel things....is hours of mundane. Learning to manage emotions as they arise because of the numbers....calming or managing contentedness lest you get swept away by the feelings of the numbers. I do agree that the original Kier may have had more pure intentions. But if you want to be able to take your consciousness and put it in another person....like I believe is happening with Helly's dad, then you need a consciousness that is fragmented and easy to imprint over. The best mind to try to control is one that already fragments when stressed. There seems to be an element of personal suffering and trauma in the show.

If they know what eels are, I don't know why they wouldn't know what Cubism is. Mark S. questioning him as to how he knows what it is makes me think Mark knows what it is and is jesting that Petey is too low brow to know.

I'm pretty sure they're not seeing what's actually around them and the whole office is in their minds, allowing them to interact with anyone else who has a chip. Like they're probably in some moldy basement with no actual security measures except for the chip in their own head. So when Petey was able to integrate, he was able to see what they were actually doing and where they actually were. I think that's why Petey got flashes of the cubicles outside. Also, I think the dead wife is actually in a coma and she just has a chip in her brain that allows her to basically astral project into this mindspace that everyone else also thinks they're in, but maybe she's not even in the same physical space as them.
