    I was also thinking with Helly's day one outfit, the top is blue and the bottom is green, green being a common color on the severance floor, while blue being the color Lumon often displays with (I think especially with them rolling out the blue carpet for their big event). So it may be referencing how the severed live and work below the grounds of Lumon above. The day they plan on escaping, it's flipped, green top, blue bottom. When her gala dress is that green and blue they are interwoven, as Helly and Helena are now fighting for their own lives and are more intertwined than ever.

    I love Seth Milchick. It was really interesting when Dylan bit him and he became uncharacteristically, almost theatrically, upset and flustered. Fantastic actor. I'd love to see him in more film.

    I would like to note that among severed employees Helena's outfit choices are the most comfortable (apart from the pencil skirt). She always wears tops with relaxed fit: t-shirts, turtlenecks, loose blouses. It really is at odds with the fact that she feels extreme discomfort and suffers most of the time she spends on the severed floor. Her style isn't exactly business casual, it's a tad bit more informal and thus reflects her action-packed journey Milchick is similar in that way as he has to do all the dirty work if required in the matter of seconds. He directly engages with the employees, so he must be always on standby The other women like ms casey and ms cobel wear restrictive, structured and austere dresses. It limits their movements and reminds them all the time about their confinement, as they are imprisoned in much more sinister and insidious ways than the others. Natalie is a guest on severed floor so she also feels visibly out of place with her dynamic short-sleeved dresses that look way too cheerful and lively than anything that's allowed in there

    I don't know about the connection between Keir's four tempers and the Four Temperments, but I think the Four Temperments can easily be assigned to the 4 MDR members: Mark - Phlegmatic (mostly has an "along for the ride/don't rock the boat" outlook in the workplace, Helly considers him a pushover earlier on) Dylan - Sanguine (the biggest talker of the group, often the comic relief as well) Irving - Melancholic (serious, reserved, dry wit sense of humor, an investigator on the outside) Helly - Choleric (fiery, doesn't like being told what to do, the most rebellious) Some of the lore indicates the employees are "chosen" for the MDR department, so perhaps the department is designed to always be made up of the four temperments/tempers

    You have pointed out so many details that truly amaze and inspire my intrest in the show and costuming. I wanted to point out that we actually see Helena one more time you didn't notice. In the beginning of Episode two, after she has her severance chip first implanted, Helena next experiences her Innie trying to leave out the stairwell. We get a look at how she is around Milcheck and how she contains her distain for her Innie trying to escape. Its a really interesting first glance into Helena's growing resentment for her Innie, growing just like Helly's harmful intentions. Both sides of Helena/ Helly R are trapped, and she goes from being the most rebellious character to the most tragic just through the final episodes' reveal.

    It's almost shocking how much you seem to have worked out from the set and costume design (including color choices in both). I can feel intuitively that you are right about so many of these things so much that this seems like a spoiler, even though so much of it is not technically information that will ever be revealed in the show. You found so many details I'd missed. Amazing work.

    @14:12 yes 😅 first thing I thought lol. I think this at least shows he has little to no boundaries, even with his own daughter. Which makes me wonder if getting severed was even her idea, pressure and a way to please him, or even her attempt to bring his company down.

    I know someone who was an IBM typewriter repair technician in Hungary around the IBM Selectric era. They were given 2 sets of formal attire that they had to wear even for repairing, and were always checked before going out to work, both in what they were wearing and how their toolkit was set up. IBM had given them Ford Escorts from the US with built-in CB radio and telephone, the soviet bloc didn't allow importing them by the company as they were too American, so most employees were transported to the location of the cars in a big car, and had to drive back the cars and 'naturalize' them. When going out to customers they had to be as formal as possible, and management often called the companies they visited to ask how well the work was done, and if every rule was followed. They had a lot of government offices where they needed to service, and they weren't even allowed to hear the other machines in the office, as some of them were taught how to tell which characters were pressed down just from hearing it, and thus they needed to be careful when working at confidential places. The carbon ribbons that the machines used were also easy to read the pressed down letters from, so they were needed to be taken out prior to servicing, usually destroyed by burning them down, but there were multiple times where police visited the IBM service headquarters after a ribbon was left in the typewriter before it was taken up by the repair guys.

    Thanks so much for sharing. I don't think I mentioned this in my review, but my mom worked for IBM in the sixties but had to leave when she became pregnant as it was against company pilicy to have pregnant women on staff. She was, however, allowed to come back to do temp work after she had her kids.

    Notice how the shade of green used is the same you see in a mirror when if reflects on itself too many times. Look up "what color is a mirror" and you'll see what I mean.

    Hi Grey, do you mean when Helly is in the bathroom?

  • @grey-spark

    @grey-spark

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Costume_CO Not exactly. I'm saying the main color of the show, is the color of a mirror. "Mirror Green" Mirrors are not colorless or purely reflective. Most are made with silver which has a murky desaturated jade green hue that you can only see when a mirror reflects onto itself to may times when the invasive light disperses revealing its true green color. Also, notice how the office space is full of monochrome whites, silvers and blacks. When taken together with the subtle green hue, makes the whole office feel like a mirror. Considering the main theme of the show is "who are you". I'm convinced this is intentional.

    This was sooooo good! Thanks for sharing, I never thought about the connection to a real life company, let alone IBM. When watching the first few episodes I was really trying to figure out what year this was all taking place in because of the outdated technology on the inside of Lumon but also the lack of technology on the outside.
