Just got into the camper life. It's been one month and a half me and dog we love it what's the greatest thing ever. I'm blessed my inheritance really paid off wonderful way to live

I use the heavy rubber chocks from Harbor Freight they work great and not expensive. Great info on using water to weight the RV down.

Agree that slides should be out during winds, for a wider center of gravity, and obviously fill tanks.

One thing I’d like to point out about hooking a camper to a truck would help if you had tension bars. I don’t know for sure but they mount to hit frame and will not allow the camper to roll like it would on a hitch ball

Great ideas to keep it safe. I’m with Jim, Harbor Freight chokes are perfect and inexpensive. The X-chocks are awesome! We just had a hail storm roll through Sebring Fl last night. Destroyed my sons brand new car. Be safe folks use this great advise.

Good tips.. and great job busting some misconceptions that folks have. The only reason we have had to pull our slide in was to protect the slide topper.. other than that... you have great points here. Nice video.

Hi Carolyn! Yes, someone was helpful enough to tell us exactly where we could buy some cheaper rubber chalks, which was at Harbor Freight. Would you mind sharing where you picked up yours?

Okie here and you're right about twisters... Great idea about the tanks! Parks should have tie down loops on their pads! Especially in our part of the world. For my little camper, some screw-anchors in the ground with big cargo straps might help in an F1 or F2. Past that, I don't wanna be like Dorothy and land in Munchkinland!

@@TravelsAbound I was in Newberry Creek/Lake Texoma during a Memorial Day weekend tornado. We were racing to the shore and hit it at 30mph as I killed the outboard. Suddenly tents, cots, sleeping bags flew past us horizontally as the wind sheer hit! We looked up into the tornado as it passed over us and hit the hill on the other side of the boatdock. It was a living nightmare

Wouldn’t your slides out be more for the high winds to catch like a sail? I’m on the NE side of Houston with the possible high winds of Hurricane Beryl coming. Don’t think I should let them out!

where are you shopping? The rubber blocks are like $10 ea at Harbor Freight.

What good are chocks going to be when the wind is hitting you broadside? In order for a camper to be safest during storms and high wind, there has to be a way to anchor it to the ground.

Well, in my mind, the tires would act as a pivot point for the camper in broadside winds. The chocks should help keep the tires from rolling... Should I no longer use wheel chocks? Do you anchor your camper to the ground at campgrounds when you experience strong storms? How long are the anchors you use, and what kind of straps? How many do you use per side, and what kind of weight does it add to your camper when traveling? Are the campgrounds ok with you driving stakes into the ground in their campsites?
