This vid is amazinngg!!! Check out Jun's vocals when he's singing in Chinese. He's more comfortable singing with his mother tongue and his falsetto is precious! Scoups was originally trained to be a vocal, but he fell in love with HipHop. His voice is indeed powerful!!! I love it. And yess... Hoshi, despite being SVT performance leader, is the 6th secret member of seventeen vocal team. His position is lead vocal... And yes, it blew my mind when I learned this.

the only problem that i find about soonyoung’s voice is that his voice tends to strain in the higher ranges and he gets pretty shouty when he tries to force a high note. but he is a great vocalist anyways and the best lead vocalist svt could ask for, along with jihoon.

My oppinion 1. Seungkwan obviously cuz his techniques and voice is a bit higher than dk 2. Dk i love his voice a lot and yes his a power house of the vocal 3. Obviously Woozi i love his adlibs 4. Hoshi not because he's my bias but hoshi has that voice and range that any producer can play with his voice 5. Joshua I think too that Joshua is 5th among seventeen vocal cuz after listening their rocket song i convinced with his ability of techniques 6. Jeonghan his voice is the charm 7. Jun i think that what he played videos were his low vocals but i think jun has very unique voice but mostly sings in low but has higher vocal range than it seems cuz his Chinese version of dwc and lilili yabbay i think his range is higher than it seems 8. Scoups he's main rapper but yeah he got accepted in the company with his singing so he has that vocal Techniques and range but not up than jun i think that. 9. Wonwoo 10. Dino 11.the8 12. mingyu 13. Vernon Nice video and comments towards vocals keep it up👍👍

Again, pretty spot on with the ranking 💯 Mingyu and Wonwoo to me are truly SVT’s biggest untapped potentials, in terms of vocal abilities. They just need more confidence and proper technique training, and they’ll go up the ranks for sure. You should check out Mingyu’s solo track ‘Like the Beginning’, he has a very creamy and soothing vocal tone that can really go places with a bit more range and consistency. Wonwoo’s voice is truly a gem - he’s evidently more confident at showcasing his vocals more than Mingyu, which means that he is already off to a good start. His soulful singing style has a lot of emotive potential that would sound amazing in ballads. As for the main vocals, I personally prefer DK’s vocals because as you’ve pointed out, he is extremely versatile and an absolute powerhouse. His voice naturally allows him to do a lot more things and his vocal stamina is literally insane. But yes, Seungkwan is more technically skilled given the type of voice that he has. With his position as the main vocal and the kinds of singing that he has to do, his voice evidently wears off slightly more often than DK. Great ranking tho!

Fellow CARATS, please keep in mind that the clips included were probably not the only sources to inform the ranking. Given his very thorough and fair assessment, I’d say this guy has listened to many a recording of their vocal abilities and just chose some to include here. He also explicitly expresses that the members have potential to grow in their abilities, so it IS a snapshot of where they were when he posted. One thing I do wish he pointed out was the fact that SEVENTEEN often sings live and their choreographies are no joke. Some of the techniques that Seungkwan and DK employ are freaking hard just standing still. As a whole, SEVENTEEN is exceedingly above the average vocal skills of a kpop group.

I feel like Seventeen are so famous for their dancing that their vocals and rap get overlooked, but to be able to sing that well and be that stable while dancing such insanely difficult choreo is beyond impressive to me. Seungkwan's voice is my favourite because it's so rich and full, but DK's voice is gorgeous too 💓

Jun's voice is simply beautiful. I am sad that they didn't use it much on their svt songs. I also think that Jun loves singing more than dancing. I watched a show where he covered songs and it really sounded pleasant and clean. His voice invokes so much emotions. Even without understanding the language or the lyrics, the message that the song tried to convey resonates to those who hear it. Jun is known for his falsetto but I think that's not what his strong point really is. He can go higher, he has a technique and proper control. Maybe if he debuted as a vocal unit member, they would show us more of that. I can't forget that voice. I often watched his singing rather than his dancing, and as I check svt songs, I can't really hear Jun. I wish for him to join a Korean singing contest like Seungkwan, DK and Hoshi when they wore a mask. I hope that many people can finally see this side of Jun. I wish lots of people will also hear what I hear, will also feel what I felt and will also witness what I witnessed.

I am a Jeonghan bias and I have to agree with you! Jeonghan sounds great when he's within his range but he lacks versatility, I hope he'll be able to develop his vocal technique and really shines. There's this thing about Jeonghan that he can't scream, do you think it has anything to do with his vocal overall that makes him not being able to connect with his chest voice? By the way I hope to see your ranking on Apink's vocal! They've just had their latest comeback I think there's gonna be a whole lot of materials for you to check out. Apink's got great vocalists but Eunji's really famous for her voice so I'm really curios about your thoughts on the rest of the girls!

Also a jeonghan bias, and personally I would put him a bit above Joshua because I think he’s a bit more expressive in his singing in general, I think he is starting to figure out connecting to chest voice too! Like the bit he has in hit with s.Coups, while layered, still shows the beginning to some power. I just think he isn’t getting opportunities to work on that with their part distributions/ maybe is nervous about seeking it out. I really hope he can take that road cause I adore his singing and want to hear some solo stuff from him (honestly give everybody solos, I need it)

Joshua in 2 Minus 1 proves the point here (I would say Joshua tends to use that tone more as hes more comfortable with it considering the stamina, image, practice sessions, default vocal technique over the years, etc. As for jeonghan, that nasal feminine tone is like his voice itself - its not that he doesn't change it enough or thay hes more comfortable with it - even when he raps or sings more upbeat songs, his method of portrayal changes but his voice itself essentially remains the same)

"Joshua and Jeonghan are very very similar" I laughed. Yes they are, in more ways than one lmao, there's a reason why they're called the twins. Anways, as a Jjongjjongiefan (Jeonghan stan), I have to comment that I think that Scoups has a better technique than Jeonghan (and Joshua). In his earlier days, Jeonghan had really bad breathing technique, making him often lose breath when doing harder choreos in the middle of a song. Also his pitch control used to be wobbly back in the day. Joshua does not have these hurdles; his voice is fuller, rounder, and it's more powerful maybe due to his better breathing technique. They've both improved a lot though, Jeonghan especially, now being center often.

I mostly agree with your opinion. In my untrained ears, Seungkwan and DK are excellent vocalists, while Hoshi and Woozi show some vocal skills. On the other hand, no offense to Jeonghan and Joshua but I feel like their vocal skills leave a lot to desire because I think their mixing is non-existent and their supported range is quite weak for lead vocalists. imo the gap between Seung-DK and Jeong-Joshua is too big that I wish Jeong-Joshua trains harder to close the gap. The problem is it's quite hard to watch live performances in Kpop these days as every performance has a certain percentage of backtrack, causing vocalists to slack off and viewers to judge their true vocal skills.

DK is a powerhouse and his falsettos/head voice are better and Seungkwan is better at belts. But DK sang Seungkwan's notes in Clap and Very Nice and he did those so perfectly. I think he just doesn't use that part of his voice yet. I think he will get better over time. He also joined as a lead actor on XCalibur and after he got even better and stronger. And I also think some people prefer power over technique and some prefer technique over power. And every note that DK hits sound perfectly by tone in my opinion and I've never seen him strain more than couple of times. He's better at those for me. But Seungkwan obvs better at belting rn. I HAVE A LOT TO SAY. But first, THANK YOU! I will only comment on DK and Seungkwan Tbh, you can interchange them in their ranks because of two reasons; 1. DK may be lacking less in technique compared to Seungkwan, BUT, the consistency is MASSIVE! You can count in your fingers the only times he slipped in support or had hiccups in technique. Yes he may have a harder time to hit Seungkwan's notes because he's a bit lacking, but his consistency in his supported range(especially in the upper range) is crazy. After all, consistency is one hell of a requirement as a better singer. 2. Seungkwan really blows DK away with his technique. But he's always going in and out technique. He drops support like crazy. I get disappointed sometimes but when he slays, HE SLAYS! It's true he really has a better technique but then if not fully utilized may be a bit of a problem. So I agree that you can interchange them depending on what perspective you look on to.

If Seungkwan hasn't developed his mixed then him and DK are pretty interchangeable, it just that Seungkwan's mixed makes them apart, their lower and upper register are quite the same in terms of development. 1. Seungkwan has a supported range of Eb3-G#4/A4. People might say he's straining more than DK because Seungkwan singing in the 5th octave more than DK. He has resonance that something DK doesn't have yet. He's underrated vocally, many people/carats usually put him below DK. 2. Dokyeom has a supported range of D3/Eb3-F#4/G4. He's not straining as much as Seungkwan because higher notes are usually given to Seungkwan since he usually using his falsetto to reach those notes to avoid strain. He's also singing in a narrow range it's like he's limiting his voice. I like his vocal color the most in Seventeen. 3. Woozi >= Hoshi >= Joshua 4. Jeonghan

No hate to DK but agreed. There is a reason why Seungkwan got most of the praise as main vocal during their 17 debut project show. But DK is a great vocal nonetheless.

oh god thanks for speaking my mind. When I first heard Boo and Seokmin's voice, it's Boo's attracted me more than Seokmin tho Seokmin's voice sounds more clean and natural. I like how Kwan puts a special layer of emotion into his singing, it's something that I can't feel from Seokmin, but I think it's really up to preference. It's sad some comments about Kwan come off a bit harsh on him. He def improved a lot as well. Im happy to see many professional vocal coaches recognizing Kwan's talent and techniques as he deserves. You know how insanely good svt vocals are when two main vocalists can be both the 1st.

@Pinkii Lights Actually the third member I feel having the "potential" to be a well-developed vocalist is Dino. He has shown pretty decent use of technique in my opinion. It's just his passion is more on dancing (the best dancer in kpop after all), so hasn't spent time on real training in singing. He can rap very well too. He's only 21. This man needs more recognition seriously.

thank you for this video! I can see that you put a lot of thought into your content. I appreciate how clear and objective your standards are; it makes it easier for me to understand your rankings and I like it when I'm able to predict the next person because I've learned a lot from your previous videos. personally, I prefer dk's vocal color. but the list is very solid. thank you again :) looking forward to your future videos!

The comment section is so embarrassing. I wish I never bumped into this video. Before watching any vocal ranking videos , I felt svt and the fandom as a safe place. But sadly it is not now.The amount of carats willing to disrespect and trashtalk seungkwan to praise dk is so sad .Dk is an angel and he definitely does not need some stans in this comment section.

OMG, I can't agree more with your ranking, literally I have to clap my hands whenever their pictures reveal. Even though Mingyu is my bias, I personally love Hoshi's unique tone so so much, it touches my heart every single time. Follow by DK and S.coups and Woozi, I adore their voices from the bottom of my heart. I don't think it would make any change in your ranking but Vernon can hit some high notes (accidentally LOL) when he isn't joking around. And Mingyu's solo song "Like the Beginning" also show his improvement. Jun's highnotes in Lilili Yabbay are phenomenal and Minghao can sing in lower range in his solo stage in a Chinese program. I glad that they put efforts to improve their singing abilities. Thank you Sam for this very interesting analysis. You make it easy to understand, fun, can also feel your passion while doing this. Your piece made me appreciate their vocals more now, aside from being already one of my favorites. Still new to kpop, your Q&A made me curious about EXO.
