Welll I loved the show so much it made me pic up a book for the the first time in 20 years and dammm it’s a 13 book series ( the books are so much better ) way more battles shit a bunch of sea battles more Viking kings for uthred to kill …the show would make 3 different Vikings into 1 …. But wow was that movie horrible completely ruined everything they built with the show reading the books kinda made the show not as good just all the shit they switch around like killing steppa off in the show but in the books he is still alive really hated the beginning when the books have to me one of the best battles scene’s where uthred once again takes London but that movie just made it some bs where there was no battle there just let in London without a fight and start slaughtering everything in the books London has 3 times the men that uthred and Athelstan have and it’s just a big nasty battle that …. It’s to bad they didn’t have a bigger budget show coulda been something to rival game of thrones and wtf is this gay agenda shit every time I turn a round there craming it down your throat 🤦‍♂️ bad choice of words lol but yea I almost turned it off when they made Athelstan a sword swallower really killed it for me

@Miggs actually stiorra went to expeditions with her crew as she was so adventurous and second son of uhtred went to Rome for higher knowledge of the religion. Edith was a healer so may be she was far from them and lastly king's mother had no clear explanation so may be she died because of age. I can add 1 thing uhtred is seems young as he held baby Edward that is too ridiculous 😅.

Going by the books...the seven kings that had to die also includes Alfred the Great, as he was alive when the prophecy was given in the books. Seven Kings Must Die before England is united. The prophecy comes true when you consider Uhtred was never a king, even if some claimed he was, he never actually took that title. In the books, Uhtred survives as he is the narrator of the story.

The ending man. Uhtred standing there between worlds with that broken look on his face, in immense pain and clutching his robe almost as saying hes scared and doesnt know what to do, just like always. Should he fight to stay alive or to give in and die knowing Alfred's dream was realized and that he will die a man of honor? It was that look on his face, almost the same face he had on the slave boat when his friend was hoisted to the hull and died. It broke my heart so much that I cracked and sobbed like a child, thankfully I was alone when I watched it. No show has ever provoked such emotion out of me and I doubt one will again for a long time. What a fantastic show, all the way through as well as a damn near perfect ending. Destiny is all.😢

I wept and sobbed like an infant child man. But look at Uhtred, how many tears did he shed in the show? His character is very masculine yet he wept for those he cared about. Because part of what being a man is all about... Is caring. It goes beyond being a man, being a human being is to have a heart. If we follow Uhtreds example.... Then we cry, wipe our tears, and go forward. What an amazing character! DESTINY IS ALL!

Bernard Cornwell is, in my opinion, something of a genius. His storytelling is so well crafted that we are educated about the history, and the characters, seamlessly, even when it is complicated by obscure ancient names and cultural differences. Cornwell has said he does not edit, but prefers to rewrite. When the battles, or quests, are over we know who did what, and why, as if we were participants. I felt that ended after the third year of the show, when he stopped guiding it, and was even more evident here, in the Seven Kings. They made a good effort to include the Cornwell elements, but without his control the storyline, the editing, became choppy. Even hard to follow. So, Mr. Cornwell, if by chance you ever read this, my message to you is Thank You, Thank You, Thank you and Thank You again. I've read almost all the books and each one was a gift. A gift of immense pleasure and reward, with almost nothing repaid in kind. So thank You, Again.

Being a romanticist I prefer to believe he lived on and counseled the new King, and enjoyed his freedom from battles and his many BLESSINGS in peace. I loved The Last Kingdom, and Uthred deserves to go down as one of the greatest film heroes of all time. I did enjoy Seven Kings Must Die, and I appreciate all the writing, directing, of course the acting, and effort that went into to making the movie; it had big shoes to fill and had a very important duty in wrapping up Utrhed's story. Here's my thoughts though, I would have liked to have heard Utrhed's voice begin the movie as he did during the series with a recap, not waiting until the end to utter his famous line, "destiny is all." That's more of a creative note on the writing. We were used to the deep, full character archs from the series and that seemed to be a little less developed in the movie, but they did have a lot to cover understandably. I loved that the writers gave the fandom the gift of getting to write our own ending for Uthred. If we wish to think he died and went to Valhalla we can back that up with evidence from the movie, coincidentally if we wish to believe that he lived on to see the rebuilding of Bebbanburg Castle we could argue for that ending as well. Personally though, if I had my wish, I would have preferred to see Utrhed's story end with him either staying victoriously or leaving for Valhalla victoriously, but instead our last glimpse of him is him standing shakily in indecisiveness, crying with the weight of the choice to stay or go. Perhaps though, that speaks to his humanness. He was a man who showed his emotions and wasn't afraid to cry and I did love that about his character. My last thought on the movie is that I absolutely loved the very last shot moving out from the window where Utrhed was standing to the modern-day real life Bebbanburg Castle, built in stone and standing as a testament and stone chronicle to Utrhed's life and all that he meant to the creation of England. (Fictionally of course.) So, his legacy did not die, it lived on all the way into the present day. That was a beautiful ending. -Oh yeah one more thing, I would have liked at least a mention of his daughter's whereabouts. We did hear a brief mention of his eldest son and his religous writings, but I think Stiorra deserved a shout out too.

I loved the change in the burning map and Eivor's music, which began differently and then incorporated the old theme tune. Two hours was never going to be enough to cover the events after Edwards death AND the Battle of Brunanburh but, overall, I loved it. The ending, for me, proved that even at the end of his life, Uhtred still had difficult choices to make. His glimpse of the Mead Hall and all his old friends was heartbreaking. He was still trapped between what he wanted and what he needed to do. I need to watch it again for more details I missed. Wyrd bið ful Araed.

could be but there are way too many inconsistencies if he did die, he has touched death before in the series with Skade's curse, plus he did not have his sword to enter Valhalla. Plus half of his "fallen heroes" including Ragnar and that whole adventure he went on to get him there, none of them were present. Plus in the books he dies an old man, if he did die, that would have been a sorry death. B/c he's clearly been through worse.

I would have liked another 30 minutes or so added to the back half of the movie to flesh out the ending sequences leading up to the final battle and would have liked that battle sequence to have been extended a little too. I thoroughly enjoyed the ending with leaving Uhtred's fate up to the individual viewer and was done super well. I don't often like ambiguous endings but movies like Inception and this one do it really well where you can really see it going one way or the other and feeling satisfied. Aflan's daughter died and she was supposed to inherit his kingdom. He said so in the beginning when she was reporting on Edward's illness. So she's the 6th 'king' to die on the battlefield. Edward plus the heirs of all the kings who rose up against Athelstan are the 7 kings who died. Uhtred was never a king and lived to a ripe old age :) *that's my ending* LOL Love this series! I watched Seven Kings last night, April 15th, and I thought it was emotionally charged. After five seasons I think this was a fitting end. I am familiar with the historical events and timeline, but seeing this part of history brought to life, albeit with artistic alterations, is a treat.

What do you think of the radical shift in Aethelstans character between the series and the movie? Does it not remind you of Daenarys? One minute they have righteous aspirations, the next they're murdering brothers or burning cities full of civilians to the ground without any explanation for their motivations.

@@sherrymacgregor8491 The movie is a continuation of the series though. Aethelstan was never so reckless and cruel in the series. He was mentored since childhood by Uhtraed. So to see him completely turn on Uhtraed for no reason and murder his surrendered brother is jarring.

I think Uhtred died from his battle wounds a few days/ weeks later and went to Valhalla. He probably wasn’t ready to die yet but it was his time. One thing to note is that Uhtred would have to be in his 70s lol, but knowing the show they manipulated the timeline by a decade or so.

I was very confused by the movie, your video has helped clarify things I will go back and watch again probably two or three times, it definitely could have been a two three or four partner, I was very confused by the characters there wasn't much investment in them they're returning characters were great of course, but I wonder what happened to his daughter and his monk son? I'm pretty sure they didn't die in the series. The ending was really sad I chose to believe he didn't die but I guess they suggested he did, the problem with that is no more last Kingdom series and it's the greatest series ever I've watched it at least three times in a row I love it

If I recall correctly, in the books the prophecy was something like '7 Kings will die, the Saxon will destroy what he loves, everything will change and everything will be the same'. This is said in a much earlier book as Uhtred talks with Aethelfaled about it. I don't know what Cornwell's intention was but I always interpreted it to be true just not relevant to Uhtred's time. In 1014 (about a century after the prophecy) the Danes under Sveyn Forkbeard finally conquer England. The king they defeat is Aethelred 'the Unready' who happened to be the 7th King of a unified England. Aethelred returns as king but then dies and eventually it is Cnut who takes the throne.

7 Kings was a truly fitting ending to the saga of Uhtred. The entire series and movie were among the best I have ever seen. The acting was superb, the battles were epoch, the costumes authentic, the effects and production were mind-blowing and the writing was riveting. I say BRAVO, well done. Okay I have to admit I was kinda thrown for a loope once the movie started. I found it odd ælthestan would become an enemy of Uhtred. . Secondly , the movie was Soo fast paced it was hard to grasp what happened to who . Although I did watch all 5 seasons. The ending really had me in tears 😭.. I didn't expect this to be the outcome tbh. With Uhtred swearing Bebbenburg to Æthlestan then dying. ... The Valhalla scene really hit hard but they forgot to add his wife and the other great Danes he knew. . overall really good movie ..
