Seven Keyholes Canyon in Gold Butte

Seven Keyholes is a unique, small and remote canyon in the middle of Nevada’s Gold Butte National Monument. On some maps, it is referred to as a slot canyon. Other maps simply label it as Seven Keyholes. As the crow flies, Seven Keyholes is located merely one mile from a popular attraction in Gold Butte named Little Finland. You're welcome! You'll have to go back. Be sure to watch the overview video on Gold Butte to make the loop trip that will include (but does not mention for various reasons) a stop at 7 Keyholes. kzread.info/dash/bejne/jGll1tR_nZi1fJM.html

You all do a great job with your videos! It's great to know how to get there and what you find when you get there (we've watched multiple of your Gold Butte videos)! We are going to the area tomorrow and we are very excited, mostly based on your videos! Thanks again!

You asked "was there ever that much water rushing through the Nevada desert to create this"....yes, there was...Noah's flood. Full time RVer here...this area is now on our bucket list for this spring when we head out west. Thanks for the videos.

You're welcome and thanks for commenting. This area was underwater for a significant amount of time (i.e. Noah's Flood), however this feature was created by a single flowing flood event at a different time, similar to a slot canyon. Nature is amazing.

Great, very informative vid! Just curious, I have been told that it is not permissible to fly a drone in a National Park/Monument. Am I wrong?

  • @BackRoadsWest1

Thanks for commenting. Flying drones: definitely a no-no in National Parks. National Monuments are managed by different entities with different rules. Like many recently designated National Monuments, Gold Butte is managed by the BLM. I asked the management team there and there are currently no rules on drones. It is also a very remote area where you rarely see people. My rule of thumb anywhere before flying a drone, is there people nearby? If yes, I don't fly it.

Thanks a ton for the info! I rarely take mine anywhere nowadays because of the "people" issue you alluded to. It's a shame, but it is what it is... Again, great vid and an area I have to see...

How is Gold Butte and Mud Wash Rd? Is high clearance enough or do you need locking capabilities? Is the dirt sticky/slippery clay when wet? Thinking of adding this loop to our next trip to southern Utah.

We did this trip last week and I didn't put the vehicle into 4WD. Whenever you go though, I would check with the Friends of Gold Butte office Mesquite for road conditions.
