Sinkholes, Sand Dunes & Crazy Rock Formations

Follow along as I head into Nevada's Gold Butte National Monument. It was just made a national monument less than a month ago, and the place is absolutely spectacular. I visit the Devil's Nostril, the Devil's Throat, Little Finland, some sand Dunes, and Gold Butte itself. This is the first of two videos from my time in Gold Butte.

Having watch many of your videos I realize we have much the same travel style. Living back east I can only get west once a year, but the drive, hike, explore, camp, repeat is very much my preferred form of adventure. I go stir-crazy staying in one area for more than 2 days.

Yeah, I get really bored if I stay in one spot for too long. I'm having some hip issues right now, so I can't hike as much or as long/hard/far as I'd like, but I'll still be able to do it a bit on my upcoming monthlong trip.

Wow Tristan, I never really cared for desert scenery, except for Sedona, but your video has me enthralled with it. Those intricately wind carved rocks and the ones that look like they erupted so sharp from the earth at all kinds of angles got me interested in going there. Great video. I'm glad you are aware of how the rain can get dangerous fast there.

I'm so glad! I'm a desert person. I absolutely love the desert, so I'm glad some of that comes through and that it makes you want to get out there. Thanks!

Tristan, Loved this video! Those red rock fins are super evocative. I kept seeing animals: dragons, a tortoise with a gaping mouth, etc. Loved your avocado sandwich. Try it sometime with a smoked salt. YUM Thanks for sharing this remarkable place with us.

There is also a great sinkhole in capitol reef national park. Wicked backcountry road but so much to see on the loop.

Huh, I didn't know there was one there, but I just Googled it, and it looks awesome. I'll definitely have to check that out on my next visit. Thanks Dave!

Those orange rocks were beautiful. Aren't you afraid of running into a snake when you are climbing? I don't know if that is where they normally stay, but I would constantly worry there was one underneath

Nope, I'm not worried about snakes, especially in winter. I've encountered snakes dozens of times and never had any problems with them.

If you ever (4 years later?) get the chance (~ 5:00) above the palmtree oasis, there's a rock slab structure of @ least 3-4 walls, I was hoping you'd either comment on, or investigate.
