This made me look up the little boy to see what he is up to now and well... I am super impressed! Went to UCLA at the age of 13 and graduated with a perfect GPA! Graduated from Harvard Law and has worked as an attorney to the US Justice Department, US House of Representatives, the MPAA, and a whole lot more.....AND he still acts doing small roles like a soldier in the 7th season of Game of Thrones. .. boy do I feel lazy lol

this film is drenched in horror. it has a few jumpscares but it doesn't *rely* on them it's the Tone / Cinematography / audio design. There's a certain sense of dread that never lets go.

Samara has the ability to burn images into people’s minds and objects (the tape), which is why she drove her mother crazy enough to kill her. She also did it to the horses and caused them to commit suicide. She was also adopted and not the Morgan’s biological child. The term “She never sleeps” means that even after physical death, she is still able to burn these images and go as far as scare people to death, literally. Before you die, you see everything she saw before she did.

She never sleeps because she quite literally never sleeps, which is why you see the tape from the hospital where she's just constantly awake and moving for hours on end, she's evil and manipulative, she says the horses keep her up but she doesn't sleep, she killed them out of malice because she felt her father loved the horses more than her, she's evil incarnate which is why she admitted to wanting to hurt people and that she'll never stop.

@@dontreadmyprofilepicture8817I disagree about the sleep part. I don’t think that “not sleep” started until the whole horse situation. I’m not excusing her killing the horses . But if YOUR parents liked an animal more than you, I’m sure you’d be pissed too. As far as the evil thing, THIS is why Samara needs a prequel since ppl don’t understand her origins. Her birth mother tried to drown her as an infant because she was born with a demon curse. Samara may have used her free choice to do things BUT we don’t know what her desires would’ve been if she were born a normal human. And I will ALWAYS stand by this point. Don’t get me wrong I love her as a villain, but I only hold her accountable for things she COULD control; not things she couldn’t. The Japanese Ring has a prequel

As far as the father saying 'she wasn't supposed to have children' was because all of their pregnancies failed. Then when they got a child, that child was severely disturbed and ruined their lives. She put visions in their and the horses heads and drove the mother to insanity. He seems to retroactively be saying that it was fate that his wife wasnt meant to have a child. I dont believe it was Samara's fault, but she was possessed/evil from the beginning. She wanted to hurt people and she drove the horses crazy because her father favored them. Also the way to escape is that Rachel made a copy and then Aiden watched the copy. You must make a copy of the tape and have a new person watch that copy to survive. Rachel was safe from the moment Aiden watched the tape. Noah watched the original, so he died on schedule.

He had to rig the device in the bathtub the way he did. Contrary to pop media, appliances that fall into water dont necessarily kill for a few reasons, the first is because electricity seeks the shortest path, thus, it wont necessarily kill. Second, the fuse box may short and modern outlets are designed to short circuit upon such scenarios.

The curse skips a victim if they make a copy of the tape. Earlier in the movie Rachel makes a copy not knowing she’s released herself but I’m not sure why she was still being haunted 🤷‍♀️

Rachel was safe once Aiden saw the copy of the tape, even though Rachel didn’t mean for him to see it and threw it under the couch. The only way to avoid the curse is to make a physical copy of the tape and show it to someone else before your seven days are up. Samara was evil from the beginning. In the Japanese movie, Ringu (1998) I believe Sadako (Samara) was conceived by the mother, but the biological father of Sadako may have been a Japanese water demon or something. Kind of Rosemary’s Baby type of thing.

Samara was pretty honest when her doctor questioned her. The doctor said, "You don't want to hurt anyone." And Samara replied, "But I do and I'm sorry!" So evil was just part of her nature. That's why her mother had to kill her.

The Grudge is a great movie, too. My favorite horror movie, actually. It’s easy to get it mixed with The Ring because both villainous entities are based on the Japanese folklore of vengeful spirits called onryo. When it comes to The Ring, I like the Japanese original better (Ring, or Ringu), which I think is worth a watch if you like the American version.

Thanks for another fun reaction.😊 I really love to sit in & watch movies with you guys. I wonder why no one watches the original versions of these horror films that were remade by Hollywood just a few years after? I get it, it's great to have a western studio budget, big stars & English-language, but part of why the Japanese films are so amazing is how genuinely terrifying the films were with very little to work with. (I'd also throw in 2008's brilliant LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, from Sweden, as another great international thriller where many folks only know about its 2010 US remake). Either way, I am grateful for the all the great overseas content you do grace us with (In their proper languages, too!😁). I know we're almost done with Halloween, but I'd love to recommend one of the scariest movies I've ever seen; a 1999 (1 year after RINGU) film by one of Japan's most famous & prolific directors, Miike Takashi, called AUDITION. For many years, that was our Halloween tradition. Feel free to double feature with Bong Joon-ho's Sci-Fi Horror Dramedy, THE HOST, 2016's unforgettable THE WAILING, or 2010's fun Swedish Kaiju TROLL HUNTER👹😱😂

It's funny because this is the second movie I've seen Naomi Watts pull something long and stringy from out of her throat during a gagging fit. The other movie is The Impossible, with Ewan McGregor and a young Tom Holland. It's about the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. I can't give a high enough recommendation for that movie. It's so so good.

One of my favorite horror flicks. It is so deliciously creepy, gothic and atmospheric! I saw it premiered at the Horror & Fantasy International Film Festival in Brussels, Belgium. It started very small and is now one of the biggest film festivals in Europe. It is a tradition to make loud comments during the movies at this festival. You will hear things such as Noo! Don't go there you fool! Ahhrgh! Gross! Aye aye aye! For some reason, it doesn't erupt in total chaos, and doesn't spoil the experience. Actually, it enhances it!

Loved your reaction! Thanks so much. I've said this before and must say it again, it's so cute Son & Mom watching Horror Films during Spooky Season! My mom and I do the same! Jen, my mom was just like you during this film. Hand held around the eyes only watching glimpses through the ending. Thank you to you and Nick for a wonderful channel. Lots of Love from Canada! :) Just wanted to share about the movie, in order to survive the cycle (of "The Ring") Rachel made a copy of the tape and showed it to Noah. As Aidan watched the original, he is now required to make a copy and show it to someone else. Thus, the Ring continues. The only way to survive the cycle of the Ring, you need to make a copy of the tape and show it to someone else (within 7 days!). Please watch "Ringu", the Japanese original. Just as scary. However, the US version was better. Alternatively, Ju-On (the Japanese original of "The Grudge") is phenomenal; whereas the US Grudge (w/ Sarah Michelle Gellar) is just adequate. The 2020 US version of the Grudge is simply garbage (but extremely violent and gory).

This always begs The question, how far would you go to protect your child? Would you show the tape to somebody else, Knowing that it will kill them, but it would save your child. I think most parents probably would. Or at least as long as they could choose who they showed it to. I'd go out and find a pedophile or a drug dealer. Or some bad guy and have them see it. I'm in if I had to protect my child. Because I never said that it mattered who it was that you made the copy for. Maybe go on a little vigilante justice. Lol

Many people don't think it's very good, but I like it and it does give both the 'what now' (present) and the origin story of Samara.
