Waiting for my xTool D1 Pro to arrive this week. Was wondering about seamless engraving around a circular object. This video was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

Thank you!
That's a really nice process. I just thought you might get away with just a single strip of tape if you don't cut the full rectangle, but just the triangles. It'll also be faster.

I tried a few different methods and shapes but in the end, i found that I like this shape the best and easy to see the alignment. The triangle 'wings' off to the sides of the rectangle help me a lot.

@@MonkeyWoodworks Yes, they'll still be there, just not the rectangle that goes all around the object. :) I don't have my P2 yet, so I can't experiment if you could mark the rectangle als "not cutting". But that way you'd only have the two triangles to adjust the distance. A single strip along the height of the object would be enough, no need to wrap it around fully, since the square is not lasered?

Maybe, I haven't tried that. It doesn't slow it down scoring the center rectangle at all really.
great video thanks for the good info. was curious if you have tried to full wrap a Stanley 40oz cup. i wanted to know if the laser will hit the tabs for the handle.

You have to bend the tabs over to engrave a Stanley. I am still working out the kinks on it personally however there are some amazing people in the xTool CO2 group that have done them and they look great.
This was so helpful! Thank you! Have you done a full wrap on one of the 40oz tumblers with a handle on the P2 and RA2? I have a bunch I planned on engraving but now I'm worried the laser head will hit the tabs. I could bend them down but I'm worried I'll break them off or weaken the weld. Any thoughts?

I have tried a few but so far I haven't been successful (I need to practice more). However, there are others that HAVE been successful in the Facebook group. If you check out the FB group "xTool CO2 Laser Official Group", you will find a few people that have had great success with them. I know that they do bend over the tabs using plyers carefully and bend them back when finished. If you are careful, and don't bend them too many times, they should be fine and not break.

@@MonkeyWoodworks thank you for the tip! I'll go check out the group now!
This was interesting, I don't understand how it works though. Perhaps the rotation of the test tape is throwing me off, or I am not smart enough to begin with, but at least now I see how it could be done. Just have to work on understanding why/how better, I guess.

Picture a flat sheet of paper. Measuring how tall and wide it is. Then setting your image in XCS matching that same size to make the image fit perfectly on that paper. All your doing is measure the tumbler the same way only its a curled up piece of paper. Your still making your image fit it perfectly.
Thank you for doing this! We have an M1 10w and tumblers are next on our list to learn. Have you done any cutting of 1/8” MDF on your M1? Would love some insight on setting for MDF.
@MonkeyWoodworks

I have not cut MDF but I know it can. I hear mixed results because of the glues in MDF. If you search for "MDF" in the official FB group, i be you will find some feedback on that.

I cut some 6mm MDF and added my cut results to my shared Google doc. 6mm is all I had on hand.

Thank you. I ordered in 3mm and it cuts like butter. Makes the laser dirty faster but I do love how easy it cuts! Thank you for the update! I do appreciate it!

@candieb76 yes it does make a mess!
Thank you this was very very helpful. I am still in my first couple days of the laser world and just set up my P2. can you tell me how to "tell" the P2 where the tumbler is and how far down it is? Do you have a link to where you bought the water bottle? one last thing, What would my settings be on a P2?
@MonkeyWoodworks
9 ай бұрын
I have two tumbler videos coming up soon that may help. Basically, the auto-measure process of the P2 tells the software exactly where the tumbler is and how far down it is. For this particular bottle, I purchased it from a local store called Five Below. On the settings, check out my material settings page. You can find a link to it in the description of any of my P2 videos. Just expand the description to see it.
Does that measuring tape come with the RA2 pro kit that comes with the P2? I received a plain white one. The one you have looks so helpful.
@MonkeyWoodworks

Yes, the tape in the video came with my RA2 Pro. Mine is an older one so maybe they changed what tape comes with it.
For the xtool p2 do I need the riser or can I just put something under machine to raise it up

If your handy, you can come up with a way to lift it. I used 2x4s screwed together until i got the base. Keep in mind that it weighs close to 100lbs and shakes a little when engraving. You will need to make sure it's secure
What if there’s no camera like on the S1?
@MonkeyWoodworks
8 ай бұрын
I wish I could help but I don't have an S1 so I'm not familiar with the setup. I suspect a lot if it is the same. Perhaps instead of the camera process, you just manually place the laser at the highest point on one side and hit start.
Hello! In the chart you made you used a cutting board, can you tell me the name of the wood please? THANKS!

All I can say is triple-check the measurements. The tape measure that comes with the RA2 Pro is in CM and users usually use MM in XCS so you need to add a 0 do your circumference. If you have a micrometer, try measuring the diameter instead of using the tape to see if that helps you achieve the full circle test.
