I remembering being 10-16 years old ordering chicks for my grandparents over the phone through the same hatchery! My grandparents spoke Spanish and my grandpa used to circle what he wanted and I placed the order and it was COD! I remembering having some beautiful birds through out my childhood-adult life. I’m 44 now. My grandpa is gone but I hope to raise some of my own very soon!

New subbie from Hollar Homestead. I just order 35 Dominique's from MMH! Heritage bird, dual purpose, laid back, and my 87 year old mom cant wait. Lol. They are also listed on the livestock conservancy page. So I love being able to work with those breeds. I still want to get some black cayuga ducks, some Roman tufted geese and white Holland turkeys. All heritage and all listed with the livestock conservancy org. Thanks for the heads up on the premier one light!

We decided to spend the money to finish our coop to get some laying hens. I’m excited to know we have eggs will be peace of mind. I found someone local that I’m trading plant starts and seeds with so great for us money wise. I’m excited wanted hens for awhile

We use a flat paving stone underneath our waterer and their feed container to keep it up out of the shavings

For many years I brooded inside because I have no electricity in the outside coop so I use the Brinsea 20 radiant plate warner/brooder. I have found giving the chicks a real night kept them quiet. I made a pen, like yours for them outside when they feather up and don't need heat but I used wire on the top so I need to put a roof over it instead of plastic. I love the Praire Blue Bells for the blue eggs. I tried the Cream legbars and got the sweetest rooster but they all died, just fell over at around 3/4 months but none of the others ever had an issue. I think my bloodlines were weak because of a small gene pool. I hope you have great luck with yours. I am looking for more of the Bluebells and maybe the True Blue Whitings which I looked into before I lucked into the Bluebells. And the Copper Marians which I have also wanted but like you said they must have that chocolate dark shell.

I’ve good luck with Murray McMurray in the past, but decided to buy local the last couple years. This year I added Brahmas (first time with those for me), Buff Orps, and ISA Browns. I already have Gold-laced Wyandottes, RI Reds, Black Australorps, leghorns, and Easter Egger crosses. I’m thinking about getting turkeys from McMurray later this year though. Have you had any experience with their turkeys?

I just added 2 Brahma 2 silver laced wyandottes and 2 golden laced wyandottes to my flock of six. I'm starting small I know, but I think it's best for us. Two of the wyandottes didn't make it and I hate to say it's because we bought them from our local feed store. I would really like to order Murray McMurray in the future but we live in Oregon. I don't know if they ship this far. I've heard nothing but awesomeness about them though.
