    Holy crap, Zac. The timing of this video is perfection. This is exactly the next purchase I needed to make for my workshop! (along with some cactus juice) Thank you!

    Nice!! I often times skip videos that seem too simple, but I decided it might be valuable to people who wanted to make sure they knew what they were in for before they buy one =D

    Awesome thank you. I was worried the red plug was important. I am about to start a batch of scales with my new Eliminator. It's a beast compared to my first pump.

    LOL It's pretty big! Seems pretty well made, but I don't think it really works any better than the Robinars. I'm going to keep an eye on it for a while and see if I can tell any difference

    Hey Zac, great video - great info. I just switched to the JB pump via Curtis (Turn-Tex) recommendation. I got the Platinum model, found it at a local pawn shop of all places. After making tons of mistakes with my stabilizing efforts, like every mistake that can be made :-) - the only suggestion I can give to those just starting out is: when the bubbles are done and let it soak for hours/days, when you take it out of the vacuum chamber - wipe off the excess resin (cactus juice) with your fingers, then towel dry it and let it 'air' dry before you put it in the toaster at 200 degrees. I do not use aluminum foil - and I get very little bleed out. On live edges, I lay the piece on it's side. This info may help some, may be a disaster for others? It just works for me. Thanks again.

    Great timing Doc Resin, just setting up a rolling table with the casting vac pump, tank etc. with supplies. Have that exact pump and Turn-tex tank. Getting really cold in the shop so not much stabilizing or casting going on.

    Hi Zac, thank you for sharing this information, I got the JB Eliminator last week, I think I put too much oil and it create me a problem, I was trying to contact the thecnical assistant of JB Eliminator but due to the holidays it was impossible, I hope nothing wrong happened with my pump.

    Hmm, I'm sorry to hear that you had a problem with it. I didn't think you could really add too much oil, but you can always pop the drain plug to remove some and try it again. One thing you will need to do is pull the red plug out of the end of the handle for the exhaust to come out. I didn't realize you had to do that the first time I fired it up, but mine just popped right out

    Hi Zac, I've seen where pressure is used for stabilizing rather than a vacuum. Can you explain what the difference is? Also which is proper for eliminating bubbles in casting?

  • @ZacHiggins

    @ZacHiggins

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hey Chris, vacuum is pretty much the only way to do wood stabilizing at home, you’d need pressures in the thousands psi to overcome atmospheric pressure and force the resin in. Vacuum eliminates that obstacle. You use pressure for casting though, that’s the best way to tackle air bubbles

  • @ZacHiggins

    @ZacHiggins

    4 жыл бұрын

    I'm not sure how hot it gets, but I leave mine running overnight and haven't had any issues. If you're worried about fire danger, you might look into the Fireball suppression things. I keep one on my oven when I leave it running, and I just got another one to put near the pumps. Cheap peace of mind, they are available on Amazon if you want to check them out (affiliate link): amzn.to/33Ask0F

    Hi ZAC . I want to give me information on wood stabilization. I am from Greece and can only find olive wood. Can I stabilize olive wood? I do tests and I don't get good results. The resin together with the color does not get in. I use small pieces. I use a refrigerator motor for a vacuum pump. this stops - 0.9 bar. I believe it's enough for stabilization. the woods are below 10% humidity and I let them soak for 24 hours. Then I put them in the cactus juice in vacuum for 4 hours. When he was finished I cut them in the middle to see and he didn't get in. What am I doing wrong please help me.

    I agree, the big vessels are a little easier for silicone. Although, you could fit a quart mixing cup in the 6" chamber. I'll have to try that out :)

    The hight. Of yours is good as silicone doubles in size when degassing sometimes you have to let off on the valve . Me I get my arm stuck in yours .or could not reach bucket without handle .., silicone pours so good afterwards when making a mold a quick Spray of Mann’s 200 to break surface tension. Hey Zac make a yo yo turn on the lathe or min baseball bat !

    The red locktite is permanent. I prefer blue which allows removal or just cheap plain old Teflon tape. I bought a Robinair and got surprised by your machine. JB are my initials! Damn! 😃 👍

  • @ZacHiggins

    @ZacHiggins

    4 жыл бұрын

    The 545 is not permanent, it's just an anaerobic sealant, no adhesive in it. I use it on all my pressure pots. I admit that I don't know if it is the best option for vacuum threads or not, but I figured it can't hurt :) I have two Robinairs, they work great too! I wanted to try out the JB pumps since so many people speak so highly on them. I knew they were well built, and it's nice to have parts available if you need to make repairs too. I just wasn't sure if they were worth the extra money overall. I'll give it a go and see how it compares to the Robinairs

    545 is actually a foam based gel to fill threads against high pressure environment(s) (no CA). Thread lock red-purple-blue-yellow are all CA (super glue) based with different breaking points of pressure to release with a lot of fillers. I am not a CA engineer, but am one of the owner's of Pacer Technologies (ZAP-CA). I'v been in enough meetings to figure out what the super smart engineer's are all talking about now. :-) I asked them about 545 several weeks ago from one of Zac's videos. They explained to me, we did not have the needed products to make it to offer that we currently had to make the CA. Oh well,

    How big of a piece of wood can you properly stabilize? I have some pithy Box elder that I would like to eventually stabilize for bowls, but doing my research before investing in a vacuum system.

    Any size as long as it fits in your vacuum chamber. It'll take longer to dry and to do the vacuum stage, but any size can be stabilized

    It's tough to stabilize large pieces, probably not worth the effort on them, just seal edges instead. The liquid is stabilizing resin, Cactus Juice brand

    Compression fittings seal around the the seating surface of the nut and the compression ring. The threads only hold the two surfaces together.
