It's going to be a reverse auction, with thieves stealing it from him repeatedly and raising the price until they find the maximum he's willing to pay to get his own stuff back. Once that happens subsequent thieves will just need to offer it back to him for slightly less than that to maximize their guaranteed profit. He's going to buy this ape pic so many times he'll be living in a box under a freeway overpass because of it.

Can anyone answer this question for me please? If someone buys an NFT are they able to take said NFT and put all the information and papers that come along with it on a hard drive or memory stick that they then take offline? In other words, why leave it on your computer that could get hacked/fished etc if you can take it offline. Right? Or....am I missing something g here? Either way, I would never buy one. I’m just curious. Thanks in advance.

They take the cost of a house, then use it to rebuy a public stolen online picture that is randomly generated. That is some serious dystopian present.

The story of the theft is almost certainly a better story than whatever Seth Green had planned with his NFT show. He should have just left it and pivoted.

It's odd that he would use the word "exploit" too in that tweet, as if it doesn't have massive negative connotations to it.

It was given to him. Lots of the NFTs were given to influential people but they signed NDAs. (there is an audio recording online) This was an an attempt to inflate the price and make them look exclusive. Its also illegal to misinform like this.

It got stolen, THEN sold. The idea that slipping a Trojan into someone’s account to take their NFTs without their knowledge or consent isn’t stealing is ridiculous. Imagine someone built a robot to secretly take items from your house and take them to theirs. The items in question may have behaved as intended, they held together and whatnot, but it is still theft.

"It's less of a show and more of a commercial for NFTs!" Not like animation doesn't already have a rich history of such things. Transformers, GI Joe, He-Man, My Little Pony and TMNT to name a few. That said, once you bought an Optimus Prime, you wouldn't come home one day to find that someone living in another timezone had stolen it. You certainly wouldn't pay $300000 to get your Ram Man back.

I started replaying Mass Effect because I never actually finished the series. (I never even finished the first game. I got distracted and forgot about it.) Every time Joker makes some sarcastic comment, I can't help but heckle him about his stupid ape. "I just shot us halfway across the galaxy and hit a target the size of a dime! That's not 'pretty good', that's 'incredible'!" "Yeah, but you still can't find your stolen ape." I guess I can still heckle him about having to pay through the nose to get his randomly-generated jpeg back.

It's the exact same reason you don't negotiate with terrorists, you set a precedent that they can continue to operate.

@@FelisImpurrator That wouldn't do anything noticeable. Literally the only point in favor of crypto and DeFi is that there is no major storage that can be destroyed. Everyone who participates has the ledger so someone would have to destroy the whole internet for it to mean anything. Also most NFTs are on Etherium which is moving away from mining (I assume that's what you meant by farm?) in favor of "proof-of-stake". You can only attack NFTs using technological and financial weapons.

Guess we're back to hackers finding those nice little loopholes that let them sweep billions of dollars worth of Made Up Bullshit and have it be "validated" by the blockchain. Godspeed to all the people dedicated to making crypto look even more like the joke it is. Honestly though, owning crypto bros is closer to white hat, because considering the sheer harm the DeFi clusterfuck is doing by existing, damaging them is basically tantamount to negative crime in terms of its outcomes.

I don't dislike Seth Green, while I do think his NFT hype is INCREDIBLY misguided I don't get the feeling he's greedy and malicious like almost everybody else shilling NFTs... That being said the Seth Green vs Darkwing84 saga is just pure comedy gold. If this is performance art by Seth he literally deserves an Oscar.

This is one of the craziest things i have ever listened. He was scammed TWICE.Why buying it again?With lost less than 300k he could have collected another advertising illustration of a "bored ape". He could have been a very similar copy of the original even if not the same l..and he couldn't be sued for the advertising of the show in the period he was legally the proprietary of the NFT. If this is a show with comic/satire/humour what better thing could be used as viral as the change of the brand with this ridicolous story linked?Instead he just exhibited how crazy is the people in the entertainemente world and the only way to stop this is boycot also his show

I definitely would have held up Seth Green for WAY more, just to put his "show" out of business, or to see how much he could pay for just for some lame "art."

Paying 300k for nothing , amazing clown world we have here. A meteor could kill us all and I’d grieve for the other animals but for humanity ? Nothing of worth would be lost. It’s paying millions of dollars for nothing , nothing at all but some useless art or gifs , what have we become ? I just don’t understand the world anymore.

I feel like 150% is about the maximum someone can charge over before it looking like just a blatant ransom. So there was probably also calculation about optics in this widely covered case.

It's almost comical listening to this story on what occurred. Sadly it shows how out of touch wealthy people have become in our world now & days. If he really wanted to invest purchase something of physical or substantial value like property, businesses, developing new technologies. Sounds like wealthy people who have so much money to burn, but have no clue on what to do with it.

13:31 If I were a greedy Square Enix executive, I'd say, instead of a character creation for the game, you buy character NFTs. "Fully customizable experience" buy your main character or support cast NFTs. Or just lock character creation behind an NFT paywall (face 1, super rare purple hair, legendary ear piece for a X$) while allowing 1 default skin so "you don't have to buy them"

The NFT cartoons’ only purpose is to convince people they are legitimate and hip. Or maybe the creators are trying to convince themselves that.

So let me see if I understand. Due to some weird legalities that were intentionally set up, the character’s rights were tied to this NFT. So without it they don’t technically own the character. Not the intent is to spawn creating NFTs of show characters allowing fans/investors to buy and trade in the official show content? BUT! Wouldn’t this sort of be a scam as content owners would never sell these characters while they intend to continue making the show, you the only characters up for grabs are ones that have no more content coming and likely will lose value?

In all fairness to Seth, most cartoons are glorified ads for the toys. But the fact that he’s used various licences over the years legally because of parody laws, there is something ironic about the bored apes.

First time in forever that something Seth did was funny.

In terms of the "bored apes" you might also should take a look at the newest video from youtuber "Philion". A truly fascinating video about it. You do not want to miss it.

Sad to see Seth at this point. From the start of Robot Chicken and Joker from Mass Effect to an idiot who bought an image of a monkey, it gets stolen then paying even more for it.

As a boy I had dreamed that by the age of 45 we would have discovered life beyond our own world, a cure for cancer and an end to war. Instead we have cartoon monkeys worth 300k being stored on a blockchain that consumes the energy of a small country. We are doomed.

Seth has no grounds to sue. According to BAYC’s terms of service, this guy is the legal owner and license holder of the NFTs. Unless Seth can prove he stole them in the first place, he has no grounds to sue to get them back.

@@Aredel It's really a question of how a court would apply current laws and precedents when it comes to NFTs. The transfer of IP rights is a contract and a contract is not valid if there is no consent from one of the parties. If Seth can show that the transfer of the NFT was fraudulent, then a court could rule that the transfer of the NFT was not legally binding. If legally the NFT was not transferred then BAYC's ToS is not applicable and the record on the blockchain is essentially an erroneous database entry. The court would probably tell BAYC to mint Seth a new NFT for the IP (at Seth's expense).

NFTs will continue to be cringe AF until they start providing real-life benefits.

Putting aside the fact that NFTs are a scam to begin with... I can't believe Green is so invested that he'd pay for this thing twice when it, as yet, has no actual value. And I don't just mean the made up value that the scammers slap onto these things. I mean, the image/character right now means nothing to anyone. The show doesn't exist yet, there's no buzz around it, no one can recognize it... So, why is he so attached to it? I have to assume that the show's already started production and they don't want to go in and replace the design with another, because I can't think of another reason why he would care so much about this one "bored ape." When the show comes out, it's going to be hilarious when it makes no cultural impact.

How are they going to get around the part where the background is one of the properties that dictates each image? You can have one that's basically identical but with a different color background. Is the character going to just have an opaque box behind him the right color? It's still theft if it isn't since it could match another one without the background lmao.

this is a rather interesting question. it's the kind of thing where it's a case of "but is it too trivial to be a copyrightable difference?" and that sounds like the kind of thing that needs a court case to find out.

This whole s*** show is more interesting than that upcoming NFT show if it ever releases.

This is a perfect lesson as why not to get involved with NFTs.

What happens if it gets stollen after the show airs?? Is someone else legally entitled to profits or would they have to take it down? It seems like a bad idea through and through.

I'll admit, I would've LOVED to have seen a Cheese VS Green lawsuit, and watch Seth Green lose miserably. XD Again, I do like Seth Green, and his work, but obviously he should've know that NFT's are nothing but a gigantic scam, and the fact he's still trying to get his "stolen" back for his show to promote NFT's proves that he hasn't learned his lesson about the dangerous truth of NFT's. I don't feel bad for what's happened to him, and/or others that have used NFT's. I'm also very concerned that Square Enix have taken into consideration for future Final Fantasy, and Dragon Quest games to feature blockchains, and NFT's if they start receiving less, and less backlash, which I HOPE it doesn't. Hopefully, NFT's, and blockchains will continue to fail till they no longer exist!

As most things in the world, you can like someone's work but not need to like the people behind it. I bet he has fully known what he was doing, all intentional, hoped to get some extra money. As awesome someone can be, as soon they get involved in such, you know they have never shown their true face before.

So instead of seeking out another venture, the guy just pours more money into a dumpster fire. You know, I like Seth and all, I think he's an awesome guy; but this was just plain idiotic.

300k? That's probably more than the show is going to make.

I’m truly astonished at how many suckers there are buying into the NFT absurdity. I guess it proves the old saying “there’s a sucker born every minute” I’m also a fan of “Look around the poker table. If you can’t identify the sucker, you’re it.”
