Just what I was looking for, thank you. I'm surprised you don't lubricate the captive roller bearings in the center of the drum support (5:36). Why not?

Great video. Now I know! Guys, have you watched No Bullshit, Just Sailing. He needs some nice Harken self tailers in his cockpit. He gets 63,000 views in 5 days and hasn't got self tailing winches.

Do the shafts that the gears go on need cleaning and grease or oil?

we have been trying to get the center screw off for several days, I think the previous owner had it screw in too tight, tried WD-40, the center screw just wouldn't nudge .... any good suggestions?

Forget gloves, how about some sort of mask/ventilator when you’re around mineral spirits!
