    Been on benzo for over a decade, and tapered off about 7years ago, never thought I would be able to function without it. But here I am 7 years later without it. It was tough. I find myself still struggling with anxiety and social anxiety and fearing places that would cause anxiety panic attacks. I really don’t want to get on medication again bc even though it may help it also comes with side effects. Numb feeling, not only does it help with calming the anxiety panic attacks it also takes away your good feelings, happiness etc. so I’m trying a different route this time. And that’s psychologist, therapy and I’ve heard they work with CTB or CBT a lot, where basically they make you face your anxiety and not run away and avoid it. Learning to be anxiety situation and learning to gradually overcome it with exposure. Which will cause tons of anxiety in the beginning they said. But it’s learning to overcome it through facing it rather than medication or avoiding it. Some may do both medication and therapy. But I’m going to try to do therapy and learn without it.

    Among the 5 antidepressants I've tried, escitalopram (Lexapro) gave me the worst sexual dysfunction, even at low dose (5mg), and didn't help with my anxiety. I decided to stop after a few weeks. Recently I started taking sertraline (Zoloft) and I think I've finally found the right AD because my problem is more social anxiety and rumination than characterized depression. I'm starting to feel better, more relaxed, and the sexual side effects are milder than expected. A lot of fatigue during the first 2 weeks.

    Thank you for explaining! I was on klonopin and Zoloft years ago. It helped a lot. Then due to my anxiety returning recently, I started Zoloft again. It has helped tremendously on a low dose. BUT since taking Zoloft a few months ago I have been clenching. Mainly at night and waking up to my jaw and mouth being real sore. I’ve tried to be mindful but nothing stops it. In short I’m weaning off Zoloft and getting ready to try lexapro… I hope it relieves the clenching because I’m tired of waking up with a sore mouth and headaches🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Currently on Zoloft now and it’s been a lot better for me. Everyone needs to realize that each and every person is going to react differently to different drugs. Hi! I have 2 questions and I hope you see this! If not that’s okay, too :) so I just got put on Zoloft 50mg yesterday and I’m absolutely panicking about all the long term effects people have said it caused them. I’ve seen where they said it’s hell & lexapro is better and all this. So question 1) What is the longest I should give it a try before I develop long term effects? I was terrified to start anything for my anxiety for that very reason but I was no longer able to function great because of it so I decided to try it. Question 2) I also am prescribed 5mg reglan 3x daily and trazadone 50mg as needed for nights I can’t sleep. I’m most worried about serotonin syndrome, so is it okay for me to take the reglan and Zoloft 50mg daily together like that? I’ve stopped taking the reglan 3x and only taking it once bc I’m scared, haha!

  • @LevelheadedMind

    @LevelheadedMind

    Talk to your provider about when to stop, typically 6 months to 1 year, then taper it over 3-6 months depending on how long you were on it. Also be sure to learn de-escalation techniques to reduce anxiety that way you'll be prepared when you come off to reduce anxiety on your own. As for serotonin syndrome, that combination would put you at risk so you will need to monitor for those symptoms.

I'm 3 days into zoloft and feel better, no side effects or issues, would the new ssri kick-in faster or better because I was already on a ssri? Like maybe since I was on Lexapro, I won't experience alot of the negative effects while starting zoloft.? Anyway in theory, let me know what ya think?

  • @LevelheadedMind

    @LevelheadedMind

    Yes, being on an SSRI and going directly to another SSRI will have less side effects and earlier response. Your body was already accustomed to the serotonin increase so that is why no side effects and quicker response.

    I took Sertraline 50 mg for 2 days and it made me very weak, not necessarily sleeping but I was on the bed most of time because I felt like I don't have any strength to get up and I had upset stomach. It was a scary ride. Perhaps 50 mg to start with was a bit too much. M doc changed my med as a whole and now I am taking Escitelopram 10 mg and it is very well tolerated.

    That's good to hear that you found something that works. Sometimes people are very sensitive to the effects of serotonin, so I always start low. With sertraline I usually start with 12.5mg if they've been on an antidepressant before.

    I am on Lexapro and as the dose has increased my dreams have become more vivid to the point of nightmarish. When I am awake life is better, though. Any thoughts on the mechanism of action with this. Is it strictly a serotonin phenomenon? Any remedies you heard of for reducing the vivid dreams (in consultation with a healthcare provider)? I'm just curious. I'm not going to do anything on my own.

  • @LevelheadedMind

    Yes, this can happen with any antidepressant treatment and it is hypothesized to be related to serotonin. If you are feeling good on Lexapro you can use adjunct treatments such as Trazodone, Prazosin or Gabapentin at bedtime, or even consider some therapies to help. This article may be helpful for you as you are considering treatment options jcsm.aasm.org/doi/10.5664/jcsm.7178 I wish you all the best 🙏🏽

    That depends person to person. What was the reason for the switch? Also did they do a cross taper or just switch it? Cross taper would be best considering she was at highest dose of sertraline. If no cross taper, then there will most likely be an adjustment period and even potential set back or recurrence of symptoms. Check switchRx.com for proper guidance on how to cross taper.

    It’s nothing to do with testosterone, more to do with dopamine and the delicate balance of neurotransmitters needed for libido to function. Best option is to lower dose, or swap to an atypical antidepressant which does not cause this side effect. I ended up with low dose zoloft and trazodone (which does not affect my libido) so I get some benefit from zoloft but keeping the dose low enough that I still have libido and then boosted be trazodone.

    I have been on Zoloft for over 6 years but I recently stopped taking in October because I have always had trouble keeping a job for longer then a year or two and I thought it was because of the meds. This past year has been the worst for me and just last week and this week because I am not over it was the most embarrassing time and the lowest I have ever been in my life. Last week I had to give up a job where I was at for only 2 days. The jobs I had last year were not so much better. One job I lasted 6 months, the other 3 months while taking Zoloft. In November I picked up a temporary job that last 2 months and I did very well and I was off of Zoloft for a total of 6 weeks. However last week the job where I only lasted 2 days I started taking Zoloft again the week before the job because I felt nervous again and ya I only lasted 2 days I am thinking becoming I am starting all over again with the med cycle and it threw my body out of wack. Now……. My doctor prescribed me lexapro. I have taken it for just 4 days and I feel completely out it and having the worst anxiety and panic attacks I have ever had. But I do feel a deference from Zoloft I can’t tell if it is good or not. I took Zoloft today because I am such at a low point but I feel defeated because I already tried Zoloft for so long and what I thought it was not working maybe it was because I have never been like I am these last couple of weeks.

    @@tongpoo8985 I stop taking both but I have not gone back to work yet so I am not sure how it will play out. I am praying to be able to not take anything. It has been hard. I have been exercising alot and it helps.

    you need to get your shit together and stop blaming medicine. Read some books about anxiety or some self help stuff related to your issues. Try to start meditating. Try natural supplements like NAC, Essential Amino acids, or L-tyrosine.

    I have the same issue. I can’t keep a job , I call out a lot because I get nervous or anxious. I also don’t have the motivation or energy to be around people all day. How are you managing your situation?
