Serrano Shoots Cuba (Part 2)

Ойын-сауық

Start from the beginning and watch part 1 here: bit.ly/Serrano-1
Andres Serrano has come a long way since submerging a crucifix in his own urine. We followed the controversial artist around Cuba as he created a new body of work, photographing the country's influential figures, political leaders, the poor, the rich, and the dead.

The best photo of the lot was the woman asleep with the flies on her... but like rmysterio80 said ... very hit and miss.

Funny how the actual realities these people are going through is being overshadowed by this documentary. No point setting up an art fest no one is going to go when they have more important things to worry about. Like not enough food to eat for example.

to me they are not overshadowed because i lived in that reality. The only thing this documentary does is bring back memories.

Well, yes, this is more about Serrano than Cuba. One learns only that Cuba has Liberalized enough to put on a Serrano show. The Cuban people, many of them, do love art, and will go to see it if they can afford it. Which the majority of them can not, if it costs anything.

Mamiya RB67 is a great camera but very heavy to carry around. The reason you can get them at such affordable prices is due to its weight.

I can't believe he uses a Mamiya RB67. That is a really cheap camera for the level of photography he is at. I got mine for about 100 dollars.

just a tool, right? The Mamiya glass is killer. He's a master, he could make pictures with a one time use Kodak.

I don't think that he,s that good a photographer. I mean, he's good, but the VICE crew had better composed shots of the same things that he shot.

artist this, artist that, the real interest is the people being photographed. Would have been more interesting to get background on the models or how he actually got in contact with them.

RB67+film are great choice. Video looks great too. Polaroid and tripod kill the interaction with models. First kiss was the one, but it was missed. We didn't see the shot of the boxer; why? Most of the pictures taken against the plain background could have been taken in USA! I love the photos exhibited in galleries though. Not a criticism, just an observation. What do you think?
