    Take of the front skid plate and do this job from under the truck. It's 10 times easier. Use a roll of shop towels for a comfortable pillow 😌. Oh another thing! There's a small hole on the bottom of the tensioner. Take a skinny L shaped Allen screw and release the tension. Once you release the tension, stick that L shaped Allen key in the hole. That will hold the tensioner back. Once the new belt is put back in place, release the tension and pull out the L shaped Allen key and done.

    I have found it is more of a pain trying to reach both hands down or up to the tensioner and put a pin in than just keeping the ratchet or wrench on it and pushing or pulling when you are ready to put the belt on again. Doing from the bottom is an option I didn't want to mess with taking anything off that doesn't need to come off plus I hate laying on the ground.

    The last thing you did on removal was route it over the fan, so the first thing on replacement would be to route it back over the fan to keep it simple.

    I would like to express my gratitude for posting the instructional video on how to replace a belt. I appreciate your videos. Since I know I will be installing a new belt, I am wondering if I should simply cut out the old belt. I am also grateful that you included the part in the video where you struggled with the installation. This way, if I have a meltdown and cannot install the belt, I will know that it was not easy for you either. Often when I watch a video, the person completes the task in seconds, which makes me wonder why I bother attempting to do things myself.

    Yes, you can cut the old belt off. One thing you may want to do is measure the new belt with the old and make sure they are the same.

    Had an idea for those nerdier guys here. If you have a discord or video chat app on your phone and you have a buddy with you, you could stream from one phone to the other to see a little easier where your belts going. Imma try it friday. I'll lyk. Great video man. Very easy. Appreciate it.

    What kind of miles before seeing belt cracks…?

  • @737mechanic

    @737mechanic

    6 ай бұрын

    Depends on the brand of the belt, the make and model of the car, the climate it is driven in, and whether it is a lot of highway driving vs stop-and-go and-go driving. I have seen belts with 100,000 still in good shape and belts with 50,000 that are cracked and need changing.

    that was some great video. It just seems like that belt does not provide enough traction to the water pump pulley. I wonder if slippage on the water pump pulley could cause these Tacoma belts to have a shortened life. One of the very few times Id ever question the Toyota engineers.
