True. And we all have serj to blame. With his fake back issues! Never had any artist that young and with such a short career complaining. Nothing is stopping him for recording then! But he won’t! He claims its artists reasons but how many people have had a side project and still been able to continue with their group? Worth thinking about. Serj…. Is not a true artist. He is a whiner who has too much pride and ego because we gave him a lot of money.

It was not only his voice that made SOAD unique. Just listen to SOAD, Serj's solo albums and Scars on Broadway. You can clearly hear that while Serj was obviously the voice of SOAD Daron was a major factor in their songwriting. Scars on Broadway sounds like SOAD without Serj while Serj's solo albums sound like something completely different .. with Serj. And I would certainly listen to more SOAD without Serj. Even more so if they get another interesting singer and it's not only Daron singing like with Scars on Broadway.

Personally, I do not see a System of A Down album coming ever again, I don't see new music coming out ever again, I don't see them touring much at all ever again. The Band is too loyal to Serj, they'd never cut him out and they'd never move on without him. I hate to be that guy, but I was born in October of 2005, I have almost been waiting for new System of A Down since my birth. I am 18 turning 19 and a new record hasn't come since 2005. We got 2 new songs in 2020, but they don't feel really super important or strong as songs. I feel like they've simply given up on making new music, making a new album or touring properly. The only thing I can see them actually doing to change is removing Serj, but I doubt they'd ever do that. They never would, he's too much of a "classic," even though he sounds nothing like he did when they were writing at top shape in 2002.

His voice is one of the most unique I've ever heard in a band in my entire life, so attempting to replace him is utterly pointless. Flyleaf tried to do the same with Lacey but her voice is very powerful and too unique as well, so of course the replacement vocalist couldn't cut it and they stopped touring altogether. Three Days Grace? Same thing. Saosin? Same thing. I could go on and on about it, you just don't replace vocalists in bands - ESPECIALLY the ones with super unique sounding voices. The vocalist is the main member who holds bands together, it's just a fact.

It’s not about moving on. Many artists have had a side band or solo career and still been able to come back. Serj calls it “artistic reasons” but he is bullshitting! He doesn’t even care about the fans because he made his money and now is gone! Can’t even be bothered to tour! A true artist doesn’t limit his possibilities and he has been able to express himself in his solo work for a long time. The inability to work with others is the issue. Ego, pride.. its a downfall. I knew we would never get another System album after Serj and Daron went on to do solo projects. I did get to see the band 4 times on their last 2 big world tours, that was incredible. In 2008 I also got to shows of Scars on Broadway and Serj Tankian. Scars on Broadway was pretty good, but Serj solo was bad...like fuck bad.

I love SOAD and Serj and he is a big part of SOAD but I'm really fed up with his BS to be honest. Also someone tells Daron to just agree with equal money share and to be less bossy.... Some of the most powerful music ever made has been fueled by politics and I'm saying that as someone that has loved plenty of it while being in the "opposite camp" of those politics.* "Politics is downstream from the culture" and it can come with the kind of passion that people kill and die for! It's potent motivation for creativity and desire to communicate an idea. Even going back hundreds of years of music, you'll find it. Sometimes, a person's outlet isn't music until they're driven to it as the only option; just like with war. *..'like' sometimes a person is saying something so passionately and so creatively that even if you vehemently disagree with their rationale you can't help but think, "Right on brother. That's what I'm talking about...."😅

I think there were way too many songs on Mesmerize and Hypnotize with Daron on lead vocals. Daron is a good backup vocalist, a solid guitar player, a great song writer, but not a great lyricist or front man on lead vocals. I know some people liked the songs he took the lead on but I found those ones to be the low points of the album (I was much more a fan of the balance they struck on Toxicity and Steal this Album! than that last double album). I definitely respect Daron's song writing and guitar playing (he is the driving force of their music), but he just doesn't have Serj's charisma on vocals (and a lot of his vocal choices are pretty cringe worthy)

They were always a commercial radio-friendly rock band. Same as Linkin Park, Slipknot, etc. Nothing wrong with that. There’s plenty of modern metal that’s not - Meshuggah, Car Bomb, Vildhjarta immediately come to mind. Hasn't there been a history of other bands where they changed the frontman? I think at worse they'd split the fanbase between those who wanted to see Serj on SOAD's tour and those who could welcome the new singer. I think it can work out. Either way they haven't made a new album for almost 20 years?! Really, what could we lose? Serj can still create his own music and come back for special shows at anytime. At least with some new blood in the band there could be something we are pleasantly surprised. I mean this sincerely, having this conversation now in a respectful way like this is something I greatly appreciate from this band. Because another band that's thinking about a new singer for a huge tour, Linkin Park, are having that conversation under more tragic circumstances. People want to see these bands tour. The love for these bands are that strong! Of course no one can replace the original member, no one is asking to forget them. But if there's a way to keep the passion for the music going, I'd say go for it!

I know I'll never get to see them with the one off shows but watching the KZread videos it seems like he's not into it and reminds me of seeing some of these old rock bands hang on too long. 20 years is way too long to wait for new album, it's never gonna happen. They explained it at the show.) Someone--I think it was John--came out before the set to tape a sheet of paper with the words "no singer, no problem" scrawled in felt marker. Daron sang an 80's metal ballad or two, they covered Snowblind with Jack Osbourne, and John Garcia--who was there with Unida earlier--even sang something... Allen's Wrench, maybe! It was actually wonderful. They'll be fine and it'll be fun. But Serj is a force. Their music together is perfection!

At the end of the day individuals make decisions and they all have to be respected not thier boundaries pushed. Touring life is hard. Its hard on family. I traveled states to see Rammstein- if you love the band you'll go when they choose to pop up

This is feeling like a potential residency-esk situation at a special venue like The Sphere in Las Vegas that could be a unique experience like no where else in the world. Find 5-6 of those around the world that line up with other commitments and projects that SOAD could use the rest of the time to do something once or twice a week, but still have the time to pursue other interests in a far less stressful way than one-off’s on-tour. I have been building and taking down these shows for 20 years as an IATSE Cardholder. I’ve seen just about every kind of show big-&-small. I’ve seen acts that do one show a week and it keeps the money rolling, with the artist home 5 days a week. SOAD has the pull enough that people would be happy with a show a month and a team does the legwork. I can’t believe that with all of the turmoil in the world right now, that Serj Tankian and the rest of the band have nothing to say about what’s going on? Serj & Anthony Bourdain were friends.. AB only kept opinionated people in his company, because he hated boring. I struggle to understand the situation, but I also firmly understand health issues stifle the ability and the desire to do certain things. 🙏🖖

I got a bad back. Had a fusion in 2016. Had to take 8 months off. I couldn't wait to get back to work.

Been a SOAD fan my whole life. I always thought that Serj was one of the major players in the SOAD sound. About 2 years ago after waiting for an album so long I decided to download both Scars on Broadway albums. That is when I realised that the mantra behind SOADs sound really was more with Daron. Though without Serj in there to Harmonise with Daron, it really is missing something. It’s a shame that Daron always wanted to be the rock star but Serj wasn’t really about that life.

The two Scars albums are really catchy and fun albums. I actually listen to them *more* than SoaD these days. You can tell that Daron still enjoys making music.

I can't imagine how greatful I would ever be for beeing in a band like SOAD... I wouldn't be confortable knowing there are people expecting to see my band live and not making at least a small tour or a goodbye tour (as we never had one for SOAD)

everything they say is true, SOAD really isn't SOAD without the band mates, yo can potentially replace guitarist and bass players and even drummers if they perform the same or even greater for that matter, but a singer is really what gets the band together, and a different singer can completely change the sound and vibe of the band, serj has such a unique voice that it would be extremely hard to replace him, but I always knew these people were in it for the love of music and respect for one another and I'm glad that they at least don't have serious drama like some bands have in the past and are all just in mutual agreements

If they get a new lead vocalist the band should do what the band Journey did and find a younger complete nobody from an island or some hole in the wall. Someone that can do the Serj vocals but also his or hers own style, that would be awesome if the band did this.
