I discovered the first suite of this in 1968! I am a true fossil of a music lover. I fell so hard in love with this music that I made sure to attend a performance of the ballet when it was performed in Los Angeles in 197-whenever. I need to look it up now; it is a ballet that involves spirits of the gemstones of the Urals. As I also love geology...it captivated me so hugely.

Each dance is just about perfectly realised by Prokofiev, his unique style of orchestration enhancing the various moods. The melody of the Wedding Dance itself is gorgeous.....

Even late in his life, Prokofiev could write some great music, as this selection amply shows, with broad, generous melodies and exciting orchestration. The recording, among all Prokofiev recordings by the excellent Scottish National Orchestra and Neem Jarvi for Chandos, is one of the finest. This is a real treasure, and a real treat. Thank you Rodders

I remember discovering these UNBELIEVABLE Jarvi/Chandos recordings and being swept away into a magical musical sound scape. Almost better...almost better than sex. OK, there were a few times it was better 🤣 Keep the music and these recordings alive 👍

So I really really love Prokofiev but this recording is way too bland. I'm sorry, but it totally lacks the Russian woodwind sound and craziness!

Not only have I discovered new composers because of KZread contributors, but discovered works of those composers have I have known about. I have no recollection of hearing this work before.

So strangely, the suite of this was broadcast on Los Angeles radio station KFAC in 1968; I, as a 19 year old geek, somehow captured it on a reel to reel tape deck my dad let me use, just holding a cheap mike up to the speaker. Hearing this just brought it all back tonight...

I am japanese .I think that's a song of the style which doesn't seem to be prokofiev most.
