Glad I could help. Generals highway is expected to open up first week of June.

Thank you for the video, very helpful! Do you know if coming in on 180 to generals highway, do you have to backtrack on generals highway and exit on 180 again or is there a south way out? Coming down from Yosemite/Mariposa Grove at the end of June and wondering if it's worth going out of the way on our way down to the Hollywood area.

For now you must exit 180. Since posting this video they have opened access to giant forest but it is still only from the 180 side. The steeper more twisty access from 198 is expected to open next month. That will allow a drive thru.

Parks saying they may open the highway 6/1 now. (From 180)

Thanks for the video! Going there next week for the first time. Too bad Generals Highway is not open yet. Looks like snow chains are not needed now which is good to know.

No chains needed. A small section of generals highway is now open.. last I checked to Montecito lodge.

@@fastsmogr Just visited the two NPs. Generals Highway has opened 8 miles in the North in addition to the Foothills. More will be opened very soon but it will take a while for the whole road to open.

Heading into town this coming week, do you have any insider knowledge if 180 will be open on the 31st?

I assume you mean the scenic byway… it is closed at the Hume lake fork and not expected to open this summer.

9:22 Hi. We are coming with family from Indiana week of July 4th. We first brought our daughters to these parks in 1990 and now this time they are bringing their children. Are you going to take a drive again in June? We are staying in Three Rivers hoping to see as much as we can despite road closings. Thank you for making the drive.

The generals highway was opened through to the giant forest from the highway 180 entrance just this week. They are hoping to open it from the 198 entrance above the foothills next month. I am local and go to the parks frequently so while I’ll probably be in the park before then I don’t know that I’ll have a drive thru video. Please check the seki webpage with the national parks they are updating access weekly. For 2023 they have been clear crystal cave and kings canyon scenic bi-way will remain closed. Redwood canyon also will remain closed.
