A couple books I recommend to help prevent your reading rut! 1. The Recipe for a Perfect Wife by Karma Brown You follow two women one is, Alice who is trying to figure out life as a housewife after "quitting" her job, getting married to her short-term boyfriend Nate, moving from NYC to a suburban neighbourhood, and trying to keep a hold on all the lies she's been telling. Nellie, our second leading lady is a 1950s housewife slowly discovering the man she married isn't who she thought he was. 2.The Edge of Anything by Nora Shalaway Carpenter Sage, a high school volleyball star just got the worst news of her life. Len, the high school designated weirdo believes a traumatic event is all her fault. The two girls bump into one another in the school hallway and change each other's lives. ( I stayed up all night to finish it, it was so good!!) 3.Various Positions by Martha Schabas Georgia is accepted into Canada's preeminent ballet school, she meets new friends, gets to dance every day, and believes it is the perfect escape from her dysfunctional family. Only things begin to take a turn for the worst when she starts giving diet advice to another girl, sees things with one of her teachers, and regrets going to parties. (Not for the faint of heart!) 4.Harley in the Sky by Akemi Dawn Bowman Harley is a wannabe static trapeze artist living in Las Vegas with her parents who run a circus called Teatro Della Notte. One fight about her future later, she's on the road with stolen music and her parent's rivals. Harley must learn how to make new friends while trying to keep the one she has back home, that no one is giving handouts, and maybe, just maybe she'll have the chance to fall in love. (This book handled mental heath like I've never seen before!)

Trying to soak up all of your cheery autumn vibes as we manly get gloomy autumn vibes here 😂 I felt a bit of a reading rut coming on after finishing Such A Fun Age - it had been a highly anticipated read but I felt totally disappointed by it. Thankfully my hold on Get A Life, Chloe Brown came in and I just binged it! I normally don’t read romance but there have been so many glowing reviews from other non-romance readers and ughhh I loved it.

Ahhh I love these little reading vlogs! Definitely makes me want to just go out and read in one of my local parks (well once I've finished all my assessments for classes). My current recommendation I think would be a book called The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman, which is about four friends who live in a retirement (think all 70+) village in England and are obsessed with solving cold cases until a real life murder happens for them to solve. I haven't finished it yet but its written really well and is super amusing, which I think sets it apart from other murder mystery novels which I feel can be a bit too serious for my liking.

Thanks for keeping me company with the chill tunes and scenic views :) (edit) Random Recs: Defy the Stars - Claudia Gray (Sci-Fi series) Still waiting on my Libby loans for number two and three, but I've heard good things. His Dark Materials series - Phillip Pullman (my go to "get out of a rut" series) I've been on a Sci-Fi/Fantasy kick during 2020...surprise. I also read Mexican Gothic! Agree about wishing there had been more immersion into Mexico, but I overall enjoyed it. The more heavy topics re: race were unexpected and uncomfortable, but I appreciated them, because they added more weight/gravitas and spoke to genuine issues around colorism, colonization, etc and made it more serious than your usual Gothic novel.

I'm finally reading legendary The Fellowship of the Ring and Earthsea. And they aren't nearly as intimidated as I imagined them to be. They are great! :) I've recently tried Six of Crows for a second time and to my utmost shame and regret it just didn't work for me, even though it seemed like everything I enjoy. :(

Enjoyed this very much. I'm reading Things in Jars by Jess Kidd. I'm liking it a lot. It's very strange tho. Set in Victorian times and is about how they liked to collect strange things in jars. Cabinet of the strange. Odd characters etc. Anyways look forward to seeing you next time. ❤️

@@caricanread My favorite dog is the Border Collie..... there is none better, once you have worked with them, it's hard to think of any other breed. Loyal, faithful, and so so clever. Yes, that's right I used to be a Shepherd. Folk used to say Herd by name, Herd by nature, which was very apt. I loved my work, I say work, it was more a way of life. I was born in the picturesque town of Peebles in the Scottish Borders, my Uncle was a Shepherd, and I used to spend a lot of my time spent with his family during school holidays, I didn't like when it was time to leave, I just loved the environment they lived in. Getting paid to walk the hills every day with a Border Collie at heel, was so good.

If you're still in the spooky mood, I'd 100% recommend Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo. I read it recently and I totally loved it. Trigger warnings because some scenes are rather graphic and violent.

I liked Mexican Gothic, but same on the reveal:( I just ordered Where the Wild Ladies Are by Aoko Matsuda. Described as contemporary feminist short stories based on Japanese folk tales. Lots of ghosts, if you can squeeze it in before the end of October!

I heard great things about Mexican Gothic. It's on my TBR but I'm still unsure about it because it's YA and I don't usually like the writing in YA books. Currently I'm in a reading slump and it's annoying because I did so well so far. I'm reading Where the Crawdads Sing and it's different from my usual genre. Very descriptive!
