Nxumalo actually achieved something coz he managed to make Zungu agree that he was aware of all the criminality of people around him. His statement alone is an admission to say he was aware of the so called crimes of his friends and as a police officer he did not do anything about it. Asking the question that was blocked by the judge was just a formality

What I also observed was that the defense lawyers have begun to stand their grounds when it comes to objections coming directly from the Judge. This is a great strategy in order to have a commendable progress of the trial. Adv. Mnisi indirectly called the judge into order, an act which resulted to him [the judge] making a reference to a judgement of 1927, which he read whereby he was justifying his conduct. He mentioned that other people seems to be self-proclaimed legal experts. It shows that he has knowledge of the dissatisfaction which some of us express. The judgement seems to allow him to interfere when there are remarks he may need some clarity on or disallow unacceptable ones which may be made by any party in the trial.

This judge though. He seems to defend this witness. This witness claims that he saw or in the company of people who were carrying guns. These people behaved strangely or acting in a suspicious manner but kept quiet. The following day he read from the newspaper about the murder of Senzo Meyiwa the previous night and it crossed his mind that he had seen one or two of the accused that were being described in the newspaper as the intruders that killed Senzo. Having seen this, he didnt do nothing about it, never assisted police to apprehend the suspects, despite being a police officer himself. The judge says it is wrong to ask this question.
