Sensational Fasciated/Crested Echium Mutant Beastess: Audrey3 from Little Shop of Horrors, or...NOT!
Fasciation is fascinating! It is a highly prized, at times, mutation in plants, a wonder that stops your eye and makes you think about alien life forms. Apparently, Echiums, that are outstanding plants on their own accord, are known for producing mutating fasciated (or crested) plants and this particular plant - named the Beastess by its owner - is guaranteed to take your breath away like no other plant. For those who start thinking "Little Shop of Horrors" - we assure you that the big creature you are about to see is nowhere near being Audrey 3. She is a "must see" powerful benevolent mama crowned by a wave of tiny blue flowers that invites bees and birds into her folds.

An amazing ‘crest’. This species lives as a foliar rosette for two or three years. Then it sends up it’s tall flower spike. After blooming it dies. It usually self seeds copiously, so it persist in an area for many years. It’s a biennial / triennial.
Unbelievable plant! Like from another planet!
Mother Nature likes to keep us guessing! Cool plant!

That's right, celosia is another plant/flower that tends to grow "sideways", creating fasciated flower clusters.
She should sell some of the seeds on etsy or Amazon
Looks prehistoric!

Exactly! Same phenomena repeating itself in different spieces
As if Echiums weren't cool enough already. I want one. They usually set a bunch of seeds. Did you ever get any?

We wanted to at first, but a little research showed that fasciation is not usually passed thru seeds - it's a random mutation in/of individual plants. Weird... so we did not gather seeds at the end of this plant's life
