Hi everyone, hows the sound for music using 7.1 mode on gsx1000? Im gonna use a 64ohm headphone...im really excited for the surround sound mode for music...concert music, melodic rock, 80s stuff and overall

Really contemplating getting this, I have the Astro a40 mix amp pro and will end up hooking that back up to my Xbox that being said, what’s the absolute best headset to pair with this? Mainly playing FPS games so footsteps and reload noises and everything else need to be present

"Absolute best headset" is a flipping HARD thing to point, but I'd say ANYTHING that's pure, high level GOOD stereo with no extra shenanigans. I'd strongly... STROOOONGLY recommend the PC37X from DROP (or the Sennheiser Game One, which is basically the same but about $20 more expensive). Hope it helps ;)

Nice review ! I just ordered this Sennheiser GSX 1200 with the 1More Spearhead VR headset. Hope it sounds much better than the SteelSeries Arctis Pro with Game Dac, wich is around the same price I just paid with the sales.

Can you tell me plz will gsx 1000 will improve sound volume over my motherboard sound (i have gigabythe ab 350 gaming 3motherboard)? I have hyperx cloud revolver and planing to buy sennheiser hd599 and GSX 1000 us combo mostly for gaming but also for some music and i am wondering will gsx be louder then motherboard audio?

It should. The actual "amplifier" portion isn't the most powerful in the world, but it should definitely be louder than the onboard audio. It won't power super heady headphones properly, but for the HD599, it'll push higher volumes compared to your motherboard. And that 7.1... oh dear!

If I have a good Sennheiser Headphone and I want to use it with my Smart Phone, Will GSX 1200DAC be handy?

Dude, i'm not sure I fully understand the question, but I never even tried using the GSX1000/1200 as a "passthrough" for a smartphone... No clue. You'd need to be able to power these from your smartphone over USB, which I don't know if you can.

I just got the game zeroes (50ohms) from sennheiser , I was disappointed, should I return it and get an a40 + mixamp instead or keep it and pair it with the gsx 1200 ?

The Game Zeroes isn't my favorite as well, but I wouldn't recommend going for a gsp1000 (the 1200 isn't for you if you're going to be playing alone and not in a Lan setup, by the way) just to try and "fix" whatever isn't owning up for you with the Game Zero. Just DON'T go for an Astro A40, please... Come on... haha. PC37X, HD58X, ATH-M40X, MH751... Any of these (especially especially ESPECIALLY the HD58X) over the A40+, like, by flipping 5 billion miles lol I'd suggest getting another pair of headphones that suit your tastes better, and from there get a GSP1000 as an upgrade to your setup later on.

I just found out that the xbox Series X will not have an optical audio output from the console. That being said my Astro mixer will go useless, will this be a good replacement for that? Do you know if this device works with the xbox one? I already have a Pair of GSP 600

Having a pair of gsp600 doesn’t play into the equation here haha. Its a good pair tho ;) As for the gsp1000, I doubt it’d work on the Xbox as it doesnt support audio out through USB. Don’t know about a PS4, but I’m still guessing NO since there’s no console support mentioned anywhere officially.

I have this coming. I will pair it with my audio technica Ath Adg1x openback headset. You think it will be a very good combo? Nice Vid btw! Thanks!

Thanks dude! Yeah, it probably will. Never heard the ADG1X to be honest, so I don't know its sound signature, but for gaming this thing is awesome anyways, and it shouldn't mess with the sound signature and the characteristics of your headphones anyways ;)

Subbed, and thanks for the nice review. I was about to order my gsx 1000, but now I have mixed feelings about that after I saw this review. I'm playing lot of fps, not overwatch tho, and gaming is the main use case for me. Have u tested this with other competitive games too? I'm mostly playing Apex, MW, Bfv etc, do u think the sound stage is bad for those games? I'm using Game ones btw

Welcome aboard, mate! Glad you enjoyed the review ;) As for other competitive titles, I've tested a couple of things, honestly not MW and very little Apex, but I've only had that weird sound-stage thing with Overwatch, and it was exacerbated by the in-game Dolby Atmos setting. With that OFF, it wasn't as weird. Wouldn't say this is a game-changer for FPS tittles tho... It's much more something for an experience the likes of the Witcher, imho.

@@N8X4TE No problems, mate! Honestly, no... Any dac-amp that brings out the best features of a headphone should work just fine for gaming, since it'll boost what said headphone does best. Bass heavy headphones are inherently not as good for gaming competitively (especially FPS), but when it comes to single player gaming or just chillaxing, they're just fine. Something like an ATH-M50X, which is BOOOOOOOOOORING as hell and flatter than an ironing board is just fine for gaming competitively. The Mayflower ARC is a veeeeery good option. The Schiit Hel seems to be a very good one as well.

Will this work on the hyperx cloud flight? Its a wireless pair. It also uses a 3.5mm jack.

Ty for your time and info. I’m currently running Sennheiser HD600 for Sim Racing. Would this amp help with the sound quality? Also could you recommend a set of small speakers that would Complement my set up?

Ooohh. 600s, hum? These should provide an interesting 7.1 experience, yes, and since racing sims are all about being as real as possible, I think these might help. Cant say with absolute certainty tho, as the game audio engine may not play nice, as it happened with me in Overwatch, but I’ve been playing Elite Dangerous with it and I love how the 7.1 works in that space environment! As for the speakers, I know for a fact some people will hate me for this but I say the Razer Nommos for $100 (not the Chroma ones) or upgrade to the Monoprice Mm3 at $200. The Edifier e25 at $199 is cool as well but both others will sound better. The Nommos are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 for gaming... just holy crap!

All 3 are self powered (you need to plug them to the wall), so they'd just use the dac as a "source". You'll be able to control volume through the DAC as it'd work as a passthrough almost, so lowering volume on the GSX would be the equivalent to lowering the source volume, but you wouldn't need an amp, no ;)

Well, I wouldn't. I never tested the G6 (Yet! 😁), so it wouldn't be right for me to make assumptions. What I kind of know, is that instead of the 7.1 mode of the GSP1000/1200, the XG6 has a focus more towards signal processing to enhance sound stage and different elements within the sound field. No idea what that does, I'm super into taking a look at it, but thats about it, really, hehe. Sorry for not being of more help ;)

Mat C, Sennheiser GSX is way overpriced for low end DAC below Audigy Fx/Xonar DGX level budget sound cards and no proper headphone amplifier. With same quality per price policy SBX G6 would have price sticker of 500$/€ As for accuracy of HRTFs and immersion both use fixed some average head shape based algorithm. In that new Sound Blaster X3 with head shape customizable Super X-Fi HRTF is certain to be the best.

Awesome Review ! I have Soundblaster Z and my Beyerdynamics DT 990 250 OHM. How should i set it up? From the Soundcard to the GSX and then to the Headphones? Or should i Buy a AMP like the FiiO E10K? Then it could be GSX --> AMP --> Headphones. What would you do ? Or do you think there is no big Difference between the Surround of the SPX from my Soundblaster Z and the 7.1 Surround Sound of the GSX?

Thanks dude! Appreciate it ;) As for the setup, yes the 7.1 from the GSX is better than what the Z can put out. I'd use the Z as a source with nothing extra turned on, plug it into the GSX and from there, either directly to the headphones or through an amp in the middle. The amp part would depend on how much your setup is currently suffering to power the 990s propertly, but since the 990s are actually fairly easy to drive, don't know if you'd need anything other than the GSX to be honest. Push your onboard audio output to the max and control everything else directly on the GSX. That should do the trick! o/

@@blackPcarlos brooo! Sorry, my head was in Narnia, apparently... You're right, you'll have to plug the GSX directly into your pcs usb. You can do what I suggested between the GSX and an amp to your headphones, but that's it. Loool

If I get around to buying this thing, should I then turn off Dolby Atmos in the windows spatial sound? or will that clash with the GSX 7.1?

Well you can sure try! I mean, just turn stuff on and off and test out in a per-game basis, really, I mean, the 7.1 + full reverb sounds flipping AWESOME (in the movie setting) for Witcher 3, but absolutely terrible for Overwatch, for example. ;)

The equivalent of what "s3x on a beach with the person of your dreams" would be for you. Or in case this should be a PG13 answer: what bacon does to food. If you're vegan (why tho?!!!!): what sleeping in the most comfortable bed feels like when you're absolutely blasted to bits after an entire weekend of Fortnite/Dota/Overwatch/Minecraft/*YourGameOfChoice*. I mean, if this DIDN'T make it clear already, c'mon.... Other analogies: - it'll grab your Game Zero and use it to rub it in your face what 7.1 surround should sound like. - it'll make you regret having played anything without it for the rest of your days - it'll throw you down a rabbit whole where spending $150-$200 on multiple pieces of gear, that combined does one SINGLE thing (in this case, Audio), is super OK 'cause it feels like s3x on a beach/bacon/sleep. I'm out of ideas ;/

Thanks bro! Welcome aboard! ;) As for the dt990, I've seen people saying it works, but I don't think the GSX has enough juice for it. You could always plug an amp to the GSX and use it as a dac only... That does work.

the touchscreen toggle between headset and speaker (Sound source) stopped working for me after a month of use, really dissapointing. sound is great though

I have DT 990 pro 250 ohms headphone, do u think it will work just fine since the GSX 1000 only support up to 150 ohms is that ganna make any issue Please i really want ur answer

Hey bro! Sorry for the delay, but your comment was buried beneath a bunch of other crap hahaha... Anyway, if you already have the DT990, how do you power it? If you already have an amp, you could plug the amp to the GSX and use it just for the DAC part.... If you're powering it through your PC directly, the GSX shouldn't be much better in powering it, but you'll get the other features at least... Long story short, the GSX shouldn't be able to REALLY power your DT990... You'll be underutilizing your headphones ;/

​@@64632847 You plug your amp to the GSX as if the AMP was the headphones, and the Headphones do the AMP. You'll need to use a cable that's 3.5mm on one end (to connect to the GSX) and whatever your AMP is on the other. From there, you connect your headphone to the AMP and done. You'd leave volume at 100% on the GSX and control the actual volume going to the headphones from the AMP directly. You won't miss any features because the GSX will continue being responsible for whatever signal goes to your headphones. You're just adding the AMP in the middle of the way to bump up the signal strength. I do that with my amp connected to my scarlett 2i2 ;)

As long as your headset has a 3.5mm jack connection, yes it is. IF your headset only terminates in 1 combo Headphone/Mic 3.5mm jack, you may need a splitter to be able to connect both things to the GSP, but that would also work ;)

I'm having a difficult time with my GSX1000. I just bought it and can't get my computer to let it turn back on when I restart the computer. My computer is less than a month old with all bios and drivers up to date. Everything works well except this when restarting the computer. On start up the GSX cycles power twice with the other USB devices (keyboard and mouse) then turns off and requires it to be detached and reattached in order to power back on. Any advice?

@@TechHyped Thanks for checking in. I've looked at sennheiser support documentation, but nothing seems to cover it. I've seen a lot of people sharing possible solutions, but I haven't been able to find out if the device (or similar devices) works for anyone without applying some kind of adjustment to their settings. I'm curious how it works for others. Does the device power up and stay on when powering on the computer, if so were any settings changed at some point in the past.

That’s what I found to be curious with your situation. While using the gsp, all I did for instance was plug it via USB to the hub on my monitor or directly to my system and that was that. No setting changes, nor did it behave like you described. Im did take a look around to see if I could find someone with the same issue and an explanation why that happened, but no luck on the second part. I guess there are some peculiar things that only happen to one or two of us around, just to make things interesting, hehe. Still, hope you find a permanent solution that works for you, mate.

I'm not entirely sure... Never tested 250ohm headphones with them, but I'd wager it'll have a "hard time."

TheHeroWe Need not sure, as Sennheiser doesn’t have that info on their website, but since this is entirely USB powered (from a single USB interface, mind you), it won’t have TONS of power. That said, its not a 100% guarantee that a 250ohm headphone will be necessarily harder to drive, but if you already have those headphones, try plugging them to something thats just USB powered. I wouldn’t wager the GSX would push them that much harder, if at all.

Got the money but would be nice if I could find an amp that allows me to connect my speakers AND headphones simultaneously. Can't understand from any of the reviews if this one allows that.

Thanks dude! Glad to hear that! As for connecting both things at once, CONNECTING it you can, but you need to toggle between one and the other through the interface, unfortunately.

Dennis Carlsson yeah, you should be able to. Audio will go from your pc to the GSX and from the GSX to the Astro base.

I use the Sennheiser GSP 600 with the gsx 1000, It is by far the best headset i've ever owned, Highly recommend if you have the money for it.

so is fortnite like overwatch or not i mean if i will buy it for fortnite will help me or not .

Hummmmmmm, ok, let me try to help: 1st: don't buy this specifically for a single game, unless you're a pro gamer in said game AND the game will super benefit from these (or anything else). THAT said, Fortnite's sound engine isnt as good as Overwatches, and the sound spacing is ridiculous due to the size of the maps. The 7.1 should be better than in Overwatch tho, I think, because of the dolby atmos option. I think these COULD help control spacial positioning, but since I never played Fortnite with them, can't say for sure ;)

I have Seinnheiser 58x.. will this amp make the sound better for gaming?? edit: nevermind you already cover that on the review 🔥

Hum..... I'd suggest, STRONGLY, that you disable the 7.1 on your headset/headphone (since I doubt it's better than what the GSX can do haha) so they don't enter in all out war for your ears or something... But even if you love the 7.1 on your headphones already, you can always use the other features on the GSX and as a Dac, it does a pretty good job... But I wouldn't get it if you're not going to use the main thing it's made for, which is the 7.1 thing in my honest opinion.

i tried it with my headset's 7.1 on and the amplifier's 7.1 on......It was HORRIBLE!I have not tried turning only the amplifier's 7.1 on but I'll give it a try.Hope it's worth it

Ooooh don't do that!!! It's like having 2 annoying kids pulling your ears apart in opposite directions! Either one or the other hahaha. I'd bet the GSX can deliver a better "fake" 7.1, but still, don't use multiple 7.1 shenanigans on top of each other! ;/

And btw if i want to use my microphone on my headset i can't if i plug the headphone cable into the amplifier.So like i need to buy another microphone and not using the one on the headset

If your headphone uses a single cable that ends in a 4 pole single end, you could get a Y splitter and then connect your headphone to the amp and get separate plugs for audio and microphone. On the opposite end, if your headphone ends in 2 separate plugs to begin with, you definitely SHOULD be able to use your microphone no problem...

Can someone please help to let me know if I'm right or wrong? I want to be able to tell which direction sounds are coming from in games. Instead of buying a gaming headset with 7.1 surround sound I can instead buy this and use my existing studio headphones to accomplish this task? Many thanks in advance :)

Don't Click short answer: yes. ;) Longer answer: you shouldn’t need anything aside from a good pair of stereo headphones, and the more competent in sound stage and imaging they are, the better off you’ll be. The GSP should be a bonus, not mandatory to get directionality.

@@TechHyped I've been playing escape from tarkov, if you've seen much of that game or played it it's extremely vital to be able to tell where peoples footsteps and shots ect are coming from. I have quite alot of decent quality headphones from various brands such as sennheiser, Audio technica, Akg, sony so I was thinking rather than buy a gaming headset just to get the surround sound I could buy 1 of these and use my existing headphones which I find more comfortable and I imagine would probably sound better.

Will this work with blue tooth headphones, so I don’t have to plug into the device?

Is the lower amp power of the GSX 1000 stopping you from buying it? Don't worry - This Story will make you happy.... I called Sennheiser about the GSX1000 and asked " Can you A. connect a second amp to the GSX 1000 and most importantly B. WILL YOU LOSE 7.1 SURROUND IN DOING SO? Question - part A was yes! The second answer was No! NO! No! YOU WILL NOT LOSE 7.1 SOUND IF YOU CONNECT A SECOND AMP TO THE GSX 1000! How did the Sennheiser employee know this? He didn't! So, he voluntarily went to PHYSICALLY FIND OUT! He came back with the good news after 18 minutes. HOWEVER... you must connect to the second amp by using the headphone out of the GSX 1000 via an adapter if you want to keep the 7.1 surround. He also mentioned there was no perceivable sound degradation or distortions. Peace Peeps!

Thank you VERY much for sharing this, mate... I've been giving that same answer to loads of people, as it's exactly what I did on my setup as well. Just like with my Scarlett 2i2, I use the headphone out to connect to the audio-in on my amp, and then to my headphones. When I was using the GSX, I just plugged it in the middle, so I had the excellent dac from the 2i2 going to the GSX for the 7.1 stuff and then to a headphone amp. Workes like a charm ;)

Or just buy Sound BlasterX G6 which actually has headphone amplifier and good DAC. Both lacked by audiofoolery overpriced GSX using cheap Conexant CX20475 meant for cheap phones/tablets: www.head-fi.org/threads/sennheiser-gsx-1000-1200-impressions.824923/page-30#post-13504383 prom-electric.ru/media/CX20745_ds.pdf And SBX G6 is also lot cheaper and comes with optical input and Dolby Digital decoding for working with consoles. And for accuracy of immersion head shape customizable Super X-Fi HRTF of new Sound Blaster X3 is sure to be winner for most people over any average head shape based fixed HRTF.

@@tuunaes Not comparable. The G6 does not offer the same surround sound, which is the biggest distinction.

No optical wire really??? What the hell

4:40 audio producers, please?! More devices with all in and outs on back and easy switching headphones-speakers! We PC dektop users would love to have smth like this that will not make us everytime plug in and plug out headphones and have cable mess on desk.

The ever craze-inducing struggle of making stuff easy to access vs minimizing cable-mess... I absolutely need something to help me diminish the cable clutter on my desk too, but I've been toying with so many pieces of gear lately that even if I wanted to, don't think it'd be possible, really ;/
