Hello to the fellow twosetters! Just a quick reminder that we should focus on the competitors and respect their hard work by not spamming twoset comments. Let’s enjoy their wonderful music together!

I stg if people get mad at my comment imma explode because I wrote this in the other video and people had the audacity to get offended when they didn’t even bother addressing the spam that was going on in other vids. If y’all are immature, you can just say that. I thought it was common courtesy to not spam and take away from the hard work of talented people. Apparently some people didn’t know that.

@Meeka I was just pointing out how some people were completely negligent of etiquette, but I see where you’re coming from. I’m not being a karen I’m just pointing obvious ways to show courtesy so if what I said offended you, then I don’t know what to tell you.

@Meeka True, I don’t think it hurts for others to make TwoSet comments on the channel. They’re not taking away the ‘respect’ towards talented violinists like what Vincent said, just expressing their excitement. Plus, I saw this channel like a comment of TwoSet on one of the other videos, so clearly they are not bothered by the comments, and in fact welcome them. I wouldn’t have known about this competition without TwoSet, so is it spam to write a comment about that?

I think I liked SImon better, overall, since the first round. But Maria is more of a "complete package" in terms of personality and, as they mentioned as well, excitement that came through, even though the competition was remote. This was also apparent in comparison to Hana, whose Mozart was beautiful, but who seems to be more shy and reserved. But gosh, they were all so good. And they all deserve so much praise for how they performed! Congratulations to everybody!

I think it was egregious Simon didn't get the win after he aced Ysaye Sonata 6. The difficulty of the music has to be more of a factor. It's light years more difficult than Lalo. I agree Maria is a great performer and player but hey Simon was feeling the music too I mean he played the sonata perfectly so obviously he was feeling the music.

All finalists are remarkably talented and gave superb performances. But I felt that Maria Duenas has that special musical quality that transcended all others. Her playing has passion and sizzle. Maria has shown again here wide variety of her playing. Very explosive and decisive interpretation of Lutoslawski's Subito. Very aesthetic interpretation of Mozart following the traditions of baroque music - using little vibrato but crating and emphasizing with the bow. In my personal opinion it should just be a "pass/fail" with equal prize money for the last ...hmm... 4 or 5 finalists? Because yes, everyone is brilliant. A "fail" would be someone who consistently plays out of time, with bad intonation, has no variation in dynamics etc...

Tough call for the judges between Maria and Simon, both would've been deserved winners. However I can see why the judges picked Maria, she took more risks and pulled it off IMHO, she had such a bold sound and charismatic playing. Simon had a very mature style of playing and perhaps showed off more technical range though.

With the junior competition I totally agreed with the jury, but for this competition I would have placed Karisa Chiu at first place, mainly because of her excellent play in the Mozart Part. You can compare it head to head with the performance of Maria Dueñas, because they played the same piece. To me the difference is quite striking.

  • @jackburgess8579

The difference is indeed striking. More generally, the Mozart exposed the limitations of Maria's technique and musicality: those of Simon and Hana were also better. I don't think there was ever a chance of Karisa winning, however. Her Mendelssohn left her with far too much to do.

Very annoyed I won't be able to watch this premiere, since it's at 1.30 in the morning where I live...I'm with Maria (her free-choice piece is a very interesting and unusual pick, by the way), but I'll gladly listen to all 4 of them tomorrow. I expect they'll all deliver wonderful performances.

well, I've got them 2-3-1-4; i thought 2 and 3 were very close technically and I enjoyed his playing a lot, but maria moved me. her fiddle has the best sound and her approach and skill are a notch above. Plus, the halls were different, so that influenced the sound too????

both jr and sr the announcements of the winners was like never before. It showed imbalance between the various levels of who won as which level, the man was especially patronizing at times. For the person who ranked "last" he said " are you happy to make it to the finals" and nothing nice about them or their performances which he said for others. Then for the winners "we will tell you the bad news". It's like he scripted it. it verged on unprofessional and every time Pamela announced with the same words "you won" as the first words. It didn't work. Then at the same time the performers have their immediate reactions documented on camera. Imagine if they did that backstage when they made the announcement that a camera would be on the performer's face at the very moment and yet even there they are with others and not alone. More even praise for each finalist could have been provided. It just could have been handled 1000 times better. It's shame for the competition to end this way but the performers handled it all with aplomb and good nature. They truly are stars.

A bit incongruously, the violin concertos of Mendelssohn and Wieniawski #2 are common to both the senior and junior finals, but whereas in the seniors we have in addition those of Mozart and Lalo, in the juniors we had those of Saint-Saens #3, Dvorak and Sibelius, which are generally recognised to be tougher!

No matter how many times i watch this, i come to the same conclusion every single time. Karissa was cheated out of first place. Her tone in the Mendelssohn was gorgeous, the way she lead through the harmonic changes in her Mozart was sublime, finally the Sonata had impeccable polyphony with each voice developing the musical dynamics at their own pace. The winner- Maria’s first piece stagnated in the same dynamic range, randomly diminuendos during actual harmonic movement and crescendos through random points of little harmonic movement. Accents don’t lead anywhere to the end of notes that don’t connect to anything. Apparently, society would rather hear with its eyes than the actual ears.

Hana Chang plays Mendelssohn' concert movement very nicely. However, I miss a bit of charisma in her playing, making her interpretation distinguishable from others. Her Mozart was wonderful. Regarding Kreisler, I do not agree with her interpretation, I miss the typical Viennese sound and way of playing.

I agree that he was very good indeed, super intense sound, great technique, very musical and thoughtful interpretation - but then so was Hana's Mendelssohn, really wonderful. Maria has the star quality I guess, and totally nailed her performances, although I don't necessarily like her over the top extrovert performance style as much as some of the more reflective performances - but obviously it's important to project your personality as a soloist and that's purely a matter of taste, as they are all great in different ways. Simon will also go onto a great career and probably all 4 of them will in fact.

I got really tired of this overpowered, hysterical performance of Lalo by María Dueñas. What I heard was the only hudge!! accents, wide vibrato, and strong hits (bash, bash). Especially bow-up was performed hundreds of times with a triumphal "swish effect". Everything overdone and quite tasteless for me. I liked Mozart though.

  • @jackburgess8579

I agree with what you say about Maria's Lalo. In this respect her approach in the Lalo is in total contrast with the exquisite refinement and nuance of Chloe Chua's dynamics and phrasing in the recital she had given a few days previously as part of the Competition's entertainment. The whole recital is at a level beyond anything achieved by the Seniors (even though she is still only 14), but the highlight is her astonishingly powerful performance of Chausson's Poeme. (I expect you know of it already but for any readers who don't I give the link kzread.info/dash/bejne/eIuWx9lwidnMqbg.html )
