Senior Citizens 1st Crash after hitting water in Porsche 991.2 GT3 Cup Car, 2024 SCCA Road Atlanta
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This is the "in car video" of the car that I battled in the last three laps of the race. I will be 65 years old and on Medicare is August but still having fun. Life is short so take time and do the things you enjoy in life! You can see me make a late pass and then watch me in front of the TA2 Class car until I hit water and spun out with 1 lap to go. Unfortunately we made contact. I was in 3rd place in the GT1 Class at the time of the time but blew it! My pit crew did a great job changing my radiator and repaired the front bumper and the car was ready for Race 2. I still had a blast racing this amazing race car and fortunately the damage was minor, this time!

Thanks. I kind of blew it. I only had half a lap to go and I decided to race a car that was not even in my class. I had 3rd place rapped up in my class. This driver is an excellent driver and won the TA2 Championship in the past, so I considered it a challenge!

Don't beat yourself up, you drove well, and what you can learn from the 'mistake' is way more valuable than any 3rd place trophy.

You all race hard! Glad no one was hurt here, awesome ride with you that was intense!
What an adrenaline rush it must be while your looking for that pass!
Just AWESOME!!!!
Thanks for sharing man.....I'm just a time trials guy but "only" 55 so maybe there is hope for me yet! Learned some things just watching your laps....good stuff

Dang. That was entertaining as hell to watch, you were really hauling ass. As someone younger than you, I hope to someday be remotely that good on a track!

I was at this race, I live minutes away from Road Atlanta. I was the silver Toyota truck in view at Turn 6 on the right, time - 2:33 right above the mirror propped up against the back of my roof. Turn 5 is always a water pit and it rained just days prior, and yes, it just pools there. I kept eyeballing your Porsche, that is a sweet ride sir.

@@rayray2054 ah ok, just curious. Here's to a good race at Watkins :)
You were so much faster than the Porsche, especially in the turn 12. Unfortunately the other guy lost his talent in the middle of the hill
It looked good at the pass at the top of the hill, as the turns kicked in it was like you werent on the gas much. I struggle with gassing through the turns when the fronts start to slip. Easing off slows you down and invreases your radius so you have to slow even more to get back in the line. The cam car was tapping throttle all the way through and it didnt seem like too much of a takeoff differential but to me it seems that the last turn was off throttle and eased into throttle at the same time the center of gravity moved to the back and induced the slip.
" I think I got on the throttle too much trying to gap the TA2." I don't think this is an accurate diagnosis because your brake lights were on all the way through the apex... until they went out of sight as the car spun. I think your data will show that the focus issue caused you to brake later than you had been (start of the 2nd yellow kerb block, vs the 4th yellow kerb block on the spin lap). It seems like when you sensed this extra speed, the natural response kicked in (most or all of your attention was drawn to 'the issue,' and your anxiety and physical stress levels probably elevated). The additional speed also likely amplified the car's rotational momentum when you turned in, and because of all the mental issues you were dealing with, you didn't recognize the exaggerated rotation, and that you needed to get off the brakes and back to throttle to give the RR tire the load it needed to check the rotation and exit the corner (although perhaps not at optimum pace). It seems the obvious lesson in this relates to focus and priorities. But there are several additional lessons that could be extracted from this experience, related to things like: when you recognized you had made a mistake, when you recognized that mistake was turning into a bigger issue, how you could have managed the whole situation differently from a mental perspective, how you could have managed the situation differently from a driving technique / tire loading perspective, and how this "mistake" could have showed you that you might actually be able to get through this turn quicker than you had been. Anyway, sorry for the long comment, nice drive until the mistake, and best of luck this season! BTW, if you want to talk about any of this 'deeper lessons' stuff you can find my email address on the Contact page of my website: www.intuitivespeed.com/contact/
Oops 🏁
Well that sucked 🫤
Not trying to be too critical because I'm sure it's different inside the car, but you had better lines and were all over him well before the accident. Saw several opportunities to step out and late brake or hang back, late apex and undercut for the pass on next turn. I understnad though that knowing the person you're racing plays a big factor and the comfort level may not be there. Fun video!

I agree, I have been in his position too. It was my 2nd race with a Cup Car so I was a bit conservative. I was too slow entering the front straight and the Eses. I am getting more confident with the car each race. I have ABS, but no traction control.
can you do a walk around of your car and the details about it 🙂

I am the car infont, which is the Porsche Cup car. I was able to get the "in car" video of the other racef. I believe its a TA2 class car. Its a V8 with 525hp and weighs around 2,750 pounds.

@@rayray2054 Oh crap, you're in the Porsche! Sorry, that was a bit difficult to derive from the context provided! Man, great racing, to both of you. I love battle clips like this, had me on the edge of my seat! The wet spot right there in mid corner, and how much this guy was on your ass, that was a very difficult area to try to brake to avoid the love tap for sure! It did seem like he tried as hard as he could to slow down without losing control, and with your car doing the spin and wiggle coming to rest, the unknown of where your car might move was difficult to predict! Also, good to know about the solution you're using for in-car video, I'll look into VBOX. Avid HPDE'er here, and my video solutions have always sucked haha. Looking to turn that around!

Woooow❤❤
The key is? What did you learn? The corner was no more wet then the previous few times you went through. What did you do differently? Take the Cosworth data and overlay this lap with the previous lap.

Good question. I have not looked at the data. I was 3rd in Class with half a lap to go and way ahead of 4th place car. I ended up battling a TA2 car towards the end and the car was not even in my class. I should have just brought the car home. I made the classic mistake of driving with the rear view mirror and lost focus. I think I got on the throttle too much trying to gap the TA2. You are right, the data would show all this. Thanks for your comment. I will be 65 in August and should change my mindset about reviewing data. You can reach an old dog new tricks, with data!

It’s definitely a problem dicing with cars you aren’t racing. From a driver’s perspective Mixed class racing sucks IMO but it’s the only game in town for the weekend warrior. . Btw, I’ve been the slower class car and motorcycle being passed with a 25+ mph speed differential . You are just hoping the overtaking driver is seeing you !

Thats normal oil pressure? Seems low
@sirseven3

Pressure equals smaller orifice than flow, volume is the concern. If it's a dry sump then it can flow high volumes at lower pressures thus enhancing the lubricating and cooling capabilities. Since it's a full blown race car
