Crash caught on dashcam; 6 years later

Ойын-сауық

The long-awaited follow up video to the original 2015 "Crash caught on dashcam". I passed out unexpectedly for the first (and only) time on April 2nd, 2015 and went off the road. Now, six years later, I feel like I'm more comfortable talking publicly about it as I have come full circle and restored the car. A playlist of that restoration is available here:
• 2004 Mustang story, fr...
I got quality medical treatment immediately after the crash and I haven't had any problems since. I always had the symptoms of Orthostatic Hypotension but never passed out before this. Many viewers reached out and said that they or loved ones have had similar experiences and also passed out while driving and they felt like this video helped shed light on what can happen. The symptoms I experienced were nausea, tunnel vision, ringing ears and severe dizziness. If you ever experience these symptoms while driving, get it checked out. I didn't have the luxury of such information and it could have cost me my life. This was not an easy video for me to make but I wanted this to be a resource for people to use. My doctors have already used the original video as a training tool for students learning about heart and neurological disorders. As to the 2004 Ford Mustang that got wrecked in the original video, I fully restored it in 2019-2020 and it looks showroom perfect. My insurance company found a way to get out of paying any claims on the car, so I paid out of pocket for the tools and supplies and did it myself. My health insurance also paid very little for my medical expenses. I still dashcam every day with my 3rd-person camera setup and I plan on sharing the curiosities I see as I always have.

As a Mustang owner, I feel your pain. I’ve never seen a dash cam mounted in the backseat, typically it’s at the top of the windshield. Same here, having worked a shift from 4am to 12am, and then having to go back in at 5am for another 8 hour shift, I could barely keep my eyes open. At one point I closed my eyes as I was driving, and before I knew it, I was on the wrong side of the road. Thankfully there wasn't anyone else on the road, but it definitely taught me that sleep was more important than whatever mundane job I was doing. Told myself I would never work something that insane again.

I had something happen to me that was a little bit similar: I wasn’t feeling so hot, but it was a work day so I was commuting out of town on the highway at ~70 mph. Then I noticed my vision was starting to go away, but in a way the opposite of tunnel vision? I was developing a black spot where I was looking, and my vision was becoming limited more and more to just the peripheral vision. In order to see what was ahead of me, I had to look to the sides. I didn’t feel “bad”, just a little bit queasy. Anyway before too long, I pulled off at a side road and found a place to safely shut off for a little while. What I did was I opened the windows for air, reclined the seat, and shut my eyes, and relaxed for a good 10 minutes. Eventually the feeling passed, my vision came mostly back, and I made it to work, where I thankfully was able to take some reprieve. Later on I recovered completely and never experienced that again for months. Then weeks later I had an optometrist appointment, and I asked the doctor about it. She took a close examination and concluded that I must have experienced a “retinal migraine,” which is apparently not too uncommon. I’ve never had a migraine headache before, so I had no knowledge of this. Essentially, like a bad migraine, what really needs to happen is exactly what I had done: find a quiet place to rest and close my eyes until I could recover. I’ve actually had this happen a couple more times since, and my reaction has been better and better. Now the moment I feel my vision starting to fade, even a tiny bit, I can stop what I’m doing and find a safe place to rest and recover. Now if this happens I can recover fully in just a few minutes. Thanks for sharing this video!

I'm so glad you were okay after that crash. I remember seeing it for the first time before and I couldn't believe my eyes that you didn't flip the Mustang or crash into anything else. The whole video really puts into perspective. Keep safe out there!

I saw your original video somewhere online when it was first posted. Really glad to see you're well and got some good medical info out of it. Also really cool to see the car get restored! I'm sorry you had to go through this scary experience but I appreciate you sharing the follow up. I have a 1960 Austin-Healy Sprite that I'd like to start doing dash cam videos with. Thanks for the inspiration!

Wow bro!!! You barely missed that telephone pole and your car totally could have got back on the free way going the wrong direction! I know you know but dang bro You are massively fortunate!!! Praise God you're ok. Your guardian angel grabbed the wheel and kept you from getting back on the freeway!!!

Thank you for making this video! I love "Where are they at now?" "What happened back then?" type videos, and you did a good job telling an interesting story & reflecting back on it! I love cars too and am glad you're ok. Also, I love your fashion style. Absolute badass! Keep on trucking, my friend.

Respect for putting this out there. I could tell it was hard for you to not only make a video about it to everyone who will see this, but even just talking about it in general
