Margaret's dig at the end about the question she asked was revealing. He said he's conducted 1000s of interviews and no one ever asked him about the core issues that could actually affect change. She had to get in her jab about "I asked all the questions I wanted. Not necessarily the questions you wanted." Margaret, that's kind of the point: none of the journalists over all the long decades have ever wanted to ask those questions. I'd say that's a strong condemnation of the current state of the profession.

Exactly Margaret. Thank you for proving Bernie’s point. People can see those were of course your go to questions for him. We know exactly where you and your bosses stand. Folks forget that local newspapers are the backbone of a country. That in the U.S. public broadcasting, which was federally funded, allowed many programs to prosper and continue on to this day. The over privatization of mainstream media is what’s caused the absurdity in the distribution of information, that we have to deal with today. Personally, the only reason I watched this video was because Bernie’s name is on it. Otherwise, I am not really interested in these big networks’ corporate guided programming. Such a disappointment that critical issues like the ones Bernie mentioned are never profoundly addressed and discussed w/o any corporate agenda on these TV programs.

I felt like she asked good questions and let him answer fully. He wasn't tricked and she didn't go for the scoop at th expense of the information. She was well documented and savvy and the discussion went just fine. If she has to agree with him fully and serve him the soupe, then I would be worried. But it feels like anyone who wouldn't agree with him fully has to be bought. I hear a lot of people complaining about the corporate media and I agree on the principle (media and corporate are two words that shouldn't go well together). That said, I've watched a LOT of independent media shows on the internet and boy they are so propaganda driven and often mean spirited. The narrative is king there. The cognitive biases are all over the place ad they are not informing. They are selling their ideology at any cost. And more often than not, they are attacking each other, even though they are supposed to be on the same side. And the reason is simple: they all want to establish themselves as the new reference and be considered as the new independent but mainstream thing (which is also contradictory). Therefore, it's not just about informing now, it's also about smearing their colleagues. All in all, it's a mess, painful to watch, and their news are tainted. In my view, them as an alternative is worst than the corporate media at this point. So, yes, corporate media isn't ideal nor is it objective. But we all know objectivity doesn't exist. As long as you know what you are watching/reading and their affiliation, you can decode the information. Don't expect one media to inform you, you are supposed to read/watch a large spectrum of them to have a pretty good picture of any situation. Informing yourself is your responsibility alone. And, in my experience, the worst at this point in time is those independent channels. Sometimes I can't even tell if they are better or worst than Fox News and I'm not exaggerating. So I don't really understand your complaint here since Bernie is 100% given the chance to express his views and none of his words were twisted. The mood was friendly and she knew her topic very well. So what is the problem?

Another example of a journalistic miss is when she asks Bernie if Bill Gates is a billionaire he likes which can mislead viewers to believe that Bernie hates Billionaires. Fighting against the policies that favor and benefit the rich (not just billionaires) and those in that class that use their power to influence and abuse our system of government not only to their benefit but to the detriment of the working class and the less fortunate. This isn't hostile at all! She's asking pointed questions - like any journalist should. NEVER take the kind person in front of you by face-value, always try to find the truth in and behind the words. That's what journalists need to do, and it's really sad that people are so unused to it now that they think this interview was hostile. It definitely wasn't. Yes, she asked things like "are you profiting from your book-tour" because that is also important to know! People who might vote for him want to know those things. And he answered it in the only way that is right - "It's not my decision, it's the publisher's decision and I need to work within the system" And that he's not particularly happy about it. But even if he had tried to evade that, that's still information for the viewers! This way, he got out with his shining knighthood intact and the points he's fighting for were mentioned often - even though he had to do that himself. tl:dr - not a hostile interview. Just a normal interview of a politician who is of major interest to the people.

Margaret really does have an impressive resumé, but she's not working class which is not a condemnation, she deserves success. At the same time, when Bernie brings up paid leave, she should be mindful that there are many, MANY more working Americans who do NOT have a $5 million net worth and a $300K salary with benefits. Those people work hard too. The first thing she brought up was the tax rate (factually correct) in response. Which is telling. Wealthier people worry about taxes. Working Class people worry about being wiped out by medical bills. BUT THE DEBATE MARGARET - would people pay higher taxes if they did not have to pay impossible medical bills? Wherever your sympathies may reside Margaret, you ARE a member of the elite Establishment. Most of the rest of us are not. Bernie is right to criticize big media and question what influences them. You see see it now. Sometimes the opposition might have a good point; but usually it's about getting their name heard, or any # of other agendas. The longer I live~ I see how some people instigate/manipulate to get what ever it is they want. We could have the near perfect candidate for whatever position & there is always people that say the opposite, it doesn't have to be truth. One example: after all that craziness of Nixon (& his criminal behavior) during Watergate, Vietnam War & other crisis (cost gasoline) We had Jimmy Carter as 1 term President. (It was after Ford pardoned Nixon) It's difficult to find something about Carter... But people did. Mostly nonsense but the campaign was persistent. Carter played fair, & too many Americans~ I guess ~ didn't want that image. But he was/is a peacekeeper. And eventhough Bernie is a better (Democrat) candidate than Republicans have to offer these days. I don't like where they want to take this country And there is no guarantee~ Even if candidate denies it~ that we, USA, won't be taken in by another trump-ideas-like president. The damage to this country & it's people could be immense. Ever since Reagan allowed, the leash of ethics, removed reporters code of conduct (long story) there are many that will start the Communist talk re Bernie. And there are many people that IF they vote, they do not want to work at learning who a candidate is... They just want that quick, entertaining sound-byte! If a grassroots movement began, maybe he could get elected. I'm not worried about USA ever moving toward Communism⚡ I am Very worried about Autocracy & we are MUCH CLOSER TO THAT= AUTOCRATIC DOMINANCE~ especially with the current Republicans. They bartered the Speaker of House position to get specific concessions❗What in h*ll was that about? What were the exact concessions? It's too crazy & personally I don't want anymore republican surprises 🚫

I agree with much of what you wrote, especially the parts about ensuring that people have the skills to succeed, antitrust, education reform (I taught for 26 years. The curriculum is very outdated, and not suitable for non academic students). The one crucial tenet that I believe is missing for many is: HOPE. People have to believe that the playing field is fair enough for them to commit the effort to participate; to believe that their efforts will pay off.
