In the early 1980s, conservatives tried to privatize Social Security. Tip O'Neal and the Democrats in congress blocked it. If Social Security had been privatized, almost everyone over 50 would be a millionaire by now. It would have alleviated the wealth gap to a large extent. If Bernie actually cared about poor and working class people, Bernie would be a Kennedy Reagan conservative.

Hong Kong pre 1997 takeover was pretty close to pure Laissez Faire government and (pure capitalism.) Hong Kong had the simplest tax code in the world. You could start a business in 1 day on 1 sheet of paper. It was a huge success. They ran unemployment rates near 1% for years on end, drew in capital from all over the world, HK had more Mercedes per Capita than any other country. Businesses on top of businesses. Envy of the world. And HK did it without any natural resources except a sea port. It's not capitalism that is the problem. Its government. When the bottom 1/5th of wage earners had their incomes rise the fastest out of all the income groups after the 2017 tax cuts. That was the first time that had happened since the George W Bush administration. Because both W. and Donald Trump used John F. Kennedy theories of using lower taxes, less immigration, and deregulation to tighten up the labor market. Which raises wages, allows mobility, allows for advancement, and gives people dignity. Compare that to the liberal policies of using high taxes, open immigration, and over regulation to put permanent slack into the labor market. Which lowers wages and drives up housing prices at the same time to the point tens of millions of people don't have any money left at the end of the month. AND IT'S THE LOWER WAGES AT THE BOTTOM THAT ALLOWS THE EXCESSES AT THE TOP. CAUSING THE WEALTH GAP. Bernie is for the billionaires. I know that's tough to hear for Bernie fans. You are being told the truth to free you from a prison you do not even know you are in.

Look at Bernie's history. He has been consistent in his message since the late 80s when he was first elected to Congress (before he was a Senator). He was an early propoment for a national (government provided) healthcare system. When she was First Lady, before she had received any lobbyist money, she made it her focus to try to get Congress to pass a national healthcare system. At the press conference announcing this initiative, she introduced her great ally from the Congress...Representative Bernie Sanders from Vermont.

Could be that 4 years from now a younger Bernie-esque politician wins the Dem nomination and becomes a revolutionary president. In that case, Bernie will be viewed as the godfather and beginning of that transformative time in US politics. Either way, I think Bernie has planted more than a few seeds for future progress in the US and among the youngest generations, who will wield incredible power in just another decade or two.

I could see him being viewed similarly to Cato the Younger in Roman classical antiquity, Cato's (for the time) conservative worldview notwithstanding. Especially since "conservatism" in Rome during his lifetime was really just upholding status-quo Roman antipopulism and senatorialism against upstart authoritarians like Caesar. He and Bernie likely may have agreed on this position. I think the respect Bernie garners for his work and unshakable integrity, but mostly just his sense for PEOPLE - his ability to tap into what we're all feeling and what we all need to hear - is the most precious virtue he shares with Cato and one he'll hopefully be looked upon kindly for centuries after we're gone.

A large segment of the American population has been brainwashed into believing that Sanders and similar politicians are out to get them in every way imaginable. At the same time, the U.S. electoral college system causes states with lower populations (usually more conservative) to have a disproportionate impact in our presidential elections. This is not to mention the issue of gerrymandering at the state politics level, lowering education standards, difficulty in taking time off of work to vote, etc.

I also don’t think he would hesitate to use executive orders to make things happen. As far as addressing the majority issue in Congress, he excels at grassroots mobilization. Perhaps, the first two years of his term would be shaky and bumpy because of slim majorities. I think the second set of two years of his first term would be quite different. He would have the bully pulpit to mobilize the voters. He is quite the speaker when he hits his stride and really gets going. This video doesn’t do him justice. Hearing this from Senator Sanders that as young people, working together can transform the world. And somehow the world would be a better place for every living thing. And to do that, greed and power must be foght until it is defeated because it is crystal clear that it stands in the way of progress and most importantly justice for all not just a few who have money and power.

I dont find anything depressing about his speeches, he is teaching us to identify issues that are often times masked, which we must confront and resolve in a manner that benefits society as a whole and not just one individual nation or person. This is the message and its probably the most sane thing a human being can say.

When will we ever learn? He should not be a voice crying in the desert we call modern life. He should be a leader for the world to follow. Greed = war and destruction. Greed is killing the planet. My grandson ( with photographic memory) 8 years ago, he's 17 now and heading for aeronautical college to be a pilot, I asked him about oil and fossil fuels, his answer "man will not be able to make the right decision in order to do the right thing". He was honest. I love Bernie and my grandson. They're honest. 👍

@@practicaliching2311 this is false, deregulation only encourage exploitation more. Ohio train derailment is a perfect example of this. When trump deregulated the railway industry the first thing Norfolk did was reduced their work force, triple their number of cars, and reduced the amount of time spent for inspection by half. They did everything in their power to ignore safety measures and now they potentially are going to get away with mass genocide from all the chemicals they spilled. If you want to see what a trully deregulated capitalism looks like just look at India where they can legally sell you overcooked mayonnaise as "cheese stuffing" in their dominos pizza.
