My friend had a older YZ80 he got dirt cheap for his kid, the previous owner went crazy tearing it all apart, cleaning everything, ordering new parts and finally gave up. He sold it to my friend for $350 as he had had enough.. He had it a week and it would only start and run for about 8 to 10 minutes and then die out. if you let it sit for an hour or so it would start up and do the same thing.. He called me up to come over and look at it.. Same thing I rode it for 10 minutes and it just died.. I pulled off the gas cap and kicked it like 11 times and it started right up, I then pulled off the gas CAP HOSE and it was blocked solid, you could not even blow through it.. We left the hose off and drive it back to his house,, It took us 20 minutes to clean out the gas vent hose as it was blocked with a piece of stick and lots of dirt.. Once cleaned out the bike ran great!!! My friend called the guy he bought it off of and he asked his son if he knew anything about sticking a stick on the hose on the mini bike and he said yes he was bored one day and stuffed it full of sticks and mud... Needless to say the old man was not happy as he spend countless hours and money into a bike then sold it dirt cheap only to have t be a $2 piece of hose.

Had an 04 625 SMC, with Full Akra exhaust, Rallye cam, rejet carb, lithium battery, radial m/c, under 300 lbs wet, till sold @ 14 k miles. Beat many 1000cc sportbikes on the dragon. There was a recall on a cam follower bearing that KTM didn't tell anyone about, incl myself until it failed and had to replace bearings, cam, valves and head. Make it a priority to research the recalled bearing and replace those bearings. Also, try to store older carbureted bikes vertical, not on side stand as this will wear an oval shape in the carb where float needle goes-that's what causes them to stick and either not get gas or piss it out the overflow tube. If that has already occurred, you can take a dremel and the white soft polishing attachment, cut w/ dykes to just fit into hole and use polishing compound till it is bright- this will make it round again, so float needle doesn't stick.

With any off-road bike it's both easier and quicker to get the carb off by removing the subframe. Plus you don't have to wrestle it from around other parts while having to risk breaking or tearing things like the intake boots.

Just a FYI, pay close attention to how the filters go back in when changing your oil. I had the 2006 model and while changing the oil I didn’t pay enough attention to the filters as they will go in either way with nothing to stop you. It ended up costing about 700$ in 06’ and that was after a deep discount. Their sweet bikes! Too heavy for off road and the vibrations on road were overwhelming at higher speeds. But I didn’t have the supermoto edition. Cool channel, really enjoy your videos.

For that price with all those upgrades $1500 is a steal. It looks like a lot of stuff is not hooked up for that display though. that might have been some of those plug by the engine. There are a lot of upgrades. That high beam does not look stock, the lighting, the conversion kit, the street tires. It looks like higher end rims and an upgraded chain. It might have engine upgrades and a tune. And a clean title. I would take the race fuel out and make sure it runs good on pump gas. You also need to fix the rear turn signal. I would also see if the seat could be fixed. Maybe a heat gun and stretch the vinyl a bit. Then clean and wax it. With some good pictures with the lights all on you should get $4000 or more if you are lucky. Definitely get all the functions on the display working like voltage and RPM.

Great deal. I have one in the corner of the barn from years ago. Mines still in its enduro form and always will be. BTW, they love to blow head gaskets. DAMHIK. Its a paint shaker even when running right so dont think that means something bad.

Great job!! The lc4 engine is a beast! I encorage you to check the rocker arm rollers as they tend to fail over time and do a waterpump rebuild. With that checked, you will have a bulletproof engine. Greetings from Chile!

The first thing that came to my mind was the ECU was shutting down the bike due to no oil pressure or a bad pressure sender. I'll always remember the fuel vent now. That is a sweet-ass bike.

Just a suggestion, replace that oil drain bolt (it’s probably compromised now) and get a new crush washer and use a torque wrench to tighten. Pretty obvious the old owner didn’t and probably had a leak and just tightened it more and more using the old crush washer to get the leak stopped. If you have a torch you can sand the old copper washer smooth and heat them glowing red (re-anneal) and allow to cool and that will restore the copper to its previous state and ability to be crushed to seal again.

Having pressure build up runs opposite to the carb not getting fuel IYAM. The tank and carb fuel line and needle/seat should be able to handle 4-6 psi pressure build up and many caps often do that. It’s the negative venting that could be the issue. If the cap isn’t venting air in to replace used fuel, that will create a vacuum in the tank and that could cause the carb to not get fuel.

Correct. It needs a vacuum break, not pressure relief.

It's common that it's usually a carb issue and the jets and fuel delivery like the floats or just the air/fuel ratio adjustment screws are off and diaphragms are dirty also! Good job and great find for the price!! 💯👌🏼👍🏻

Mine had a decomp lever, so I would hold that in, get the engine spinning over, and then drop the decomp. Much friendlier to starter and battery.

Awesome. This is my favorite bike of yours so far. I had a 525 KTM and always wondered what the 625 version was like! Btw I always had metal flakes on my drain plug after 10-15 hour oil changes and my bike had over 12k miles/ 400+ hours on it with the stock bottom end. I think the intake valves are the biggest weak point of the engine since mine started to get tight @400 hrs

Oil plugs are torqued tight on those, can't remember for sure but I think around 40 or 50 ftlbs. Probably clutch material in there, it floats around, normal wear and all.

Nice find, street tires have their place on street bikes, having said that I'm not super impressed with Dot knobbys and I've burned enough of those off, fortunately there are enough different styles that if you keep it you can find something that feels good on different surfaces

Nice! I had a 2002 Duke- same LC4 motor. About 40 hp. It’s an incredible bike. I used to call it the Mercedes of bikes cuz every thing was tight and worked as it should. Lots of engine brake from the big single so it likes to be either accelerating or braking. Not much of a cruiser ;)
