"Sell Me This Pen" is an iconic interview question popularized by the movie "Wolfe of Wall Street", but has been around FOREVER. I finally caved and made a "peek behind the vail" version to actually EXPLAIN the psychology and value behind the question. Let me know if you like videos like this AND if you'd like me to make a "201" version of this video!
Wow only seeing this video today for the first time and it's so powerful. What I learned is that people always want to know what's in it for them. They want the benefits more than the features. And once you know what they want you can easily start diagnosing their problem making selling the pen so much easier. Almost like a doctor instead of jumping right in you ask them questions instead to help clear what the problem is and what pains they have. Once you have that then it's all about solving their problems. So powerful. Awesome stuff.

I've applied for a sales job. I've worked in customer service basically all my life so I'm having a slight problem changing my mindset to sales. I will be having my final interview in a few days. my son actually told me about these videos and your explanation was fantastic for me. I would love to see more of these. Fingers crossed I get this job.

I got this question in a real interview years ago haha
Hi, great video! Just a quick question. I am a beginner seller who is going to be selling mugs online on platforms such as amazon and etsy. In terms of the product description I really want to use that to display the product benefits (without feature dumping) and as you said about asking the customer what they are looking for. I am struggling to do this for a mug though as I am a complete beginner. How would you recommend I do this to a customer on a print on demand mug? Thanks

Thank you so much for the comment/question! Although mugs (or any "hard lumpy object") aren't necessarily my area of expertise, I do have two thoughts for you. ONE, there is a book that I read which changed my approach around how I think about Marketing, Business Creation/Growth and refocuses your mindset on adding immense VALUE to your client...it's called *"Unscripted" by MJ DeMarco* (best on Audible). Secondly, and perhaps influenced by the same book, ask yourself questions like "What problem am I solving for my customers"...."What makes MY product/service different/unique?"....Remember, there are a LOT of mugs to choose from in the world. Just having one for sale isn't going to be enough to attract buyers. Bonus book: *"12 Months to $1 Million" by Ryan Daniel Moran* . THIS book specifically addresses the process, approach and vision needed to succeed in launching a product-based (hard lumpy object) business....including, knowing what your NEXT 2 products will be. Again, thank you for your engagement on this channel. Best of luck to you in your entrepreneurial adventures!!!
Do another one
