ALL 11 WEAKNESSES (as a text): [1] My biggest weakness is that I focus too much on detail during projects or tasks. I am a detail-oriented person but when a project has a tight deadline this is not always helpful. I am trying to be more mindful in situations like these and I am learning to focus more on the end goal of the project or task that I am responsible for. [2] I find it difficult to ask other people for help. I take great pride in my work and when I encounter problems I always try to figure things out for myself however I do understand it would be more beneficial to seek advice from other more experienced people in my team and I am taking steps to improve in this area. [3] I struggle to let go of projects. I tend to get so engrossed in projects when I am working on them this is not always helpful to me and I don’t want to let them go however I do understand this is not always helpful to my employer’s goals and I am learning to finish a project and then move straight on to the next one [4] I am not very good at giving feedback. If someone asks me for feedback I would rather avoid it as I don’t want to hurt their feelings however I do appreciate feedback is an important part of self-development and I have been trying to improve in this area by forcing myself to give people feedback when it is requested [5] I find it hard to say NO to people. This has been a problem of mine because I always say yes to everything even if I don’t have the capacity to do so. Now in the past, I have sometimes become overwhelmed by taking on too many responsibilities. Now before I say yes to things I now take my time to assess my own workload to make sure I do have the capacity to commit to the extra work responsibilities. [6] I have lack of experience in (certain area) I currently lack experience in taking the lead on projects but this is something I am keen to improve on. If I am to reach my full potential this is an area I need to gain experience in and I am keen to improve in this particular area. [7] I am too sensitive at times. I am too sensitive and in the past, I would take criticism personally however I do understand that for me to continually improve professionally I need to view other people’s comments as constructive and productive so I am learning to be more mindful in situations such as these when people are simply trying to help me improve and develop so [8] I can be too judgemental of other people. In my last role, I would automatically judge people if they were either late finishing a project or if their standard of work was not up to scratch however I have been trying to improve in this area and I no longer jump to conclusions related to other people’s performance instead I try to offer my help or support so they can improve which ultimately serves to help the team to move forward [9] I don’t yet have any leadership experience. I currently have no leadership experience but this is something I really want to improve on if you asked me now to take the lead on something I wouldn’t feel confident in doing so however to improve in this area I would seek to observe how managers and team leaders tackle projects and tasks so I can then learn how to do it myself when the opportunity presents itself [10] I get stressed if a project runs over the deadline. My weakness is the fact that I sometimes get stressed out if I think a project is going to run over its deadline is simply because I take pride in my work and I genuinely don’t want to let my employer down however I am learning to remain calm in difficult situations such as these and to focus on what I can do to help get the project finish on time and to the necessary standard [11] I am not very good at presenting to large groups of people. My weakness is my fear of public speaking. I would genuinely love to have the confidence to stand up in front of a group of people and give a talk however I am trying to improve in this area and I recently purchased a book from amazon on how to improve confidence when public speaking

I got asked this a few years back and the I just blurted out the first thing that came to mind and said "dancing". We both chuckled and the interviewer didn't pursue the question any further. And I did get the job.

I used answer number 5 before. The interviewer said that he didn't find it as a weakness. I stayed firm and explained it almost as identical as you did and he said it wasn't good enough. I wish I had more examples of weaknesses but its honestly my biggest weakness. thank you for the other 10 examples.

Hello Richard. Thank you immensely for creating this video. This is an interview question I've found puzzling for a long time, and the two that pertain the most to me are focusing too much on details, and finding it very difficult to say no. Even just pointing out detail orientation has made me recognize how I am offsetting it with one of my strengths, which is that I work best when there is a deadline. Therefore, if I allow the small details to occupy too much head space and make things stressful and overwhelming for me, the deadline can serve as grounding for regaining focus.

This is an extremely helpful video!! All 11 weaknesses are inspiring. My top 3 picks are No. 5) Find it hard to say no to people, No.7)Too sensitive sometimes and No.9) Don't have sufficient leadership experience. I have been working in a small company for a long time and I am responsible for many areas so people tend to ask me to do them a favour and as a result I always stay at office late when most people have gone home. Also it's an extremely multi tasking environment, so even I get used to it I still feel upset sometimes that I am disturbed by other tasks when I am concentrating on solving a problem of one major task. And then I want to work in a large company in future but I lack leadership experience of leading a group of subordinates. So these 3 areas are my biggest weaknesses and I want to work on them

However, your video has me reconsidering that stance and, moving forward, I am more self aware of it. It’s funny because other than that I have a really relaxed demeanor. Thanks for the great tip!

Amazing video! Another weakness I’ve encountered for myself and found myself working through over the past project : learning to progress/work through an area with incomplete information. When starting out, I would find myself crippled and unable to progress until there was complete desired information available to me. However, I’ve been working my way through it, and am now able to make progress even when there are small bits available and gathering/processing the remnants parallelly - having the awareness that it’s ok to not have the complete picture visualised right at the outset and let things take shape along the way.

God bless you Rich! You are a top lad! I landed a job thanks to your videos. I personalised my answers, practiced them for hours and hours and to my surprise despite my social anxiety and stress I was more confident then I thought I could be. Ive told the interviewers that my weakness is being a Yesman who would always stay longer and take one for the department which is not great for me, but good for the company and the guys started laughing and said this is a brilliant way to describe lack of assertiveness. I cracked some jokes too, another shocker for me. Thank you again!

These are great, honest weaknesses that avoid the "word games" people sometimes try to play by saying things like "I work too hard" or "I care too much about my work." I'm planning to share these with my business communication students next week.

@@CareerVidz UPDATE - i didnt get the job, but they gave me some great feedback and told me that i was the front runner for the job until the last interview where they found someone with more experience in a certain area. Dissapointed i didnt get it, but looking back on it im glad i have the experience of the interview behind me. Can certainly go forward with more confidence towards certain questions.

However, I intelligently worked most of what you taught into the conversation. I will be sure to let you know what the end result is. I find it difficult to ask other people for help when needed. I take great pride in my work, when a encounter problems I always try to figure things out for myself however I understand that it will be more beneficial to seek advice from more experienced people from my team and I am taking steps to improve in this area.

I like to use one that’s similar to being too detail oriented. I use the “I sometimes overthink about things that leads to…,” which is true for me.

What a great and very helpful video! Thank you so much. I am interviewing today for a remote customer service job. This really helped me delve into my weaknesses and I think I decided to go with this weakness: My weakness is that I don't like failing people. I don't like disappointing my customers, but I understand that there will be times when I won't be able to resolve the direct problem due to no fault of my own, however, I will go over the customer's account and explain the benefits and other discounts that do apply; and hopefully this will ease their burden a bit.
