Every year in India, numerous birds lose their nests due to deforestation, fires, and other causes. Statistics indicate a significant impact on bird populations, with a substantial decline in nesting habitats. One report states that over the past decade, there has been a 30% decrease in nesting sites for various bird species.
In this context, a heartwarming incident occurred involving a male purple sunbird. The sunbird had lost its own nest to a fire, leaving behind its vulnerable chicks. In a twist of fate, the sunbird stumbled upon a nest belonging to a flycatcher and mistakenly believed it to be its own. Without hesitation, the male purple sunbird assumed responsibility for the flycatcher's nest and its four chicks.
Both the flycatcher parents and the sunbird diligently fed and cared for the chicks. However, the sunbird's devotion went beyond what was expected.
