We had so many weaver birds in India back then.... I remember we had a regular one in our backyard. And there were colonies of them in my both paternal and maternal grandparents' villages. Now-a-days, it's very rare to spot one. I miss looking at them. In childhood, we used to peep inside sometimes and try to count the compartments when the nests were empty and hanging on lower branches upto where we were able to climb.

That being said...... You must not know too much about Hummingbirds, because there is NO WAY they should be at the 14th position!!!!! More like in the top three!

The weaver bird should be number 1 here; the creativity and attention to detail is astounding

One can't imagine how intelligent these small creatures are !! I witnessed a seasonal bird making its nest high at the corner of an abandoned room.. Try after try it brought wet clay with hay & managed to make it stick at the wall like a pocket on pants. Sometimes it knew it wouldn't hold long, so it abandoned it. But finally a wonder of construction came about..

@Lisa B Birds are divine messengers & spirits of the deceased can move through them to watch over loved ones still here. I had a cardinal do the same thing, would follow me from room to room viewing me through the windows at a place I stayed at for about a year. I could feel the vibration from it too, that is wasn't at all coincidence. I am sure that was a Guardian Angel watching over you & your son. 💜

Good choices. 👍 too many to choose from. 2 of my favorites are: 1. White breasted water hens. They have 2 nests, one used in day. The other "safe house" is used at night and in case of an emergency such as threat by water snake. 2. Bowerbird, whose nest is a home decorated with pretty things!

The best we all should do is to give praises to the Creator of these organized & wise creatures. How wonderful He is!

I had Village Weaver birds in my back yard in South Africa. It took way longer that two days to build nests and the birds kept cutting each other’s nests down while the others were off gathering palm leaf strips.

Few months back, a male hornbill was found dead in the rainforest of Kerala, India. The forest watchguards and Locals searched for the nest and finally found it.. the locals fed them for 2 days but unfortunately they can't save them..
