Im so happy I found you and this video. Just what I needed. Both in terms of settings and your info about calibration. Yesterday i struggled quite a bit with my 85mm lens and thought, this super expensive lens have never really worked for me, WHYYYYYY!! And now it seems that there's a perfectly good explanation to that. THANK YOU so so much, for at very detailed and clear instruction.

Another way to have a focusing target for self portraits is to use a light stand with a piece of white card taped to it; the card should have a big black 'X' on it to give the camera a clear target. The card can be at whatever height you want because most light stands go up to about 7 feet. The advantage is that you can position yourself then just move the stand out of shot; if it's a close up all you have to do is tip it away on two of the feet, letting it tip back to where it was before, if you need to go to adjust the camera.

Love your video. I have a line of Canon cameras (xTi, t7i, and recently got my 5D Mark IV). Another tip for getting your self-portraits is to use an intervalometer and set it to take a photo every second or two. I do this for shoots with my family. Great tips in your video - I liked your priority for the exposure triangle.

When you're using the focus ring on the lens you can absolutely set your camera to have the focus point light up when focus is achieved. You have to half press the shutter button THEN turn the focus ring to begin establishing focus, THEN press the shutter button the rest of the way to take the picture when the focus point lights up to confirm focus(or if you're using back button focusing, just press the button assigned to focusing, adjust the focus ring on the lens then take your finger off the button, THEN press the shutter button). And as long as you're on the same focal plane for every picture you can turn any which way you like. You just can't change the distance you are from the camera.

What type of autofocus do you set your camera on since you are not in the picture when setting it up? Do you just put something there as a prop and focus on it?

The remote that I use the most is a brand called NEEWER the model is NW-860 tx . I love it the only down side is the battery in the receiver side is like a weird size that's hard to find in stores and costs more than regular batteries.
