Self Driving Mercedes Actros L Truck
Again doing some night driving in the new Mercedes Actros L
This time stuck in a bit of traffic, and using the cruise control, which keeps a safe distance from the car in front. I have never drove a truck that follows what's in front that smooth

Hey Mercedes you can't buy advertising like this. You could send our boy a nice Christmas hamper all the same.
This is so relaxing and so sexy when Raul is driving. He is a master pilot of control. Magnificent. I❤Raul 4ever. Mercedes and all makes of vehicle owe him so much for being a premium reviewer. Raul is super professional at everything he does.
They also drive to the roads too. Only thing you need to brake for is traffic lights and if something is coming at roundabouts. If roundabout is clear though it will slow and accelerate itself. All you need to do is steer.
My company run these trucks & insist we use the system but as clever as it is it can be unpredictable at times to say the least!.., always cover the brakes & switch off around London!, also performance & usage is recorded and if you help it accelerate while it’s active we get a lower score! 👍
A new Actros with proper mirrors! Those new video mirrors are horrendous at night, unusable! I do like how the Actos drive though, more stable than MAN of DAF.
Adaptive cruise control is a wonder to behold.
Predictive Powertrain Control. If you come to a stop for less than 2 seconds, it will accelerate itself. Any longer, touch the throttle pedal, or use resume button on the steering wheel.
Nice to see tech improving . I drive a DAF which doesn't slow quickly enough then brakes hard so I don't use in heavy traffic.

Have you set the distance to maximum? I found that helps a bit
Thanks...A Happy Christmas to you and yours.
Great video Raul and your not touching anything 😂
Love the video have a great Christmas
The cruise control on the actros use gps and will alter your speed to match the current legal speed on the stretch of road you are on and also will slow you down when you come to roundabouts and give you a safe speed to navigate them , only thing is it doesn’t accommodate for vehicles already on the roundabout so you still need to cover your brake . I have to say I miss this feature and the actros’s satnav too which is a pretty good feature as it’s a live feed and has all current road closures and provides alternate routes which was handy on nights as ever where is shut for roadworks
We have them at wren kitchens and the Merc PPC is good but sometimes accelerates in the wrong areas especially on roundabouts, so I always take it off for roundabouts. It’s also good on A roads with corners and speed / distance. We have to drive in economy now to save fuel, so run at 53 but only takes no more than 10 mins more

The very latest versions are much better on this
Guys i am of the slight impression our boy Raul might actualy like the Merc.......
Yeah agreed I actually trust the merc to stop, the daf XG leaves it way too late then slams the brakes on!!
I love trucks and trucking so I've learned to accept the technology coming, unlike most my American colleagues. They'd rather whine, cry & complain about EVERYTHING.
I've tried this in a few cars and it seemed ok at first but like you, I would find myself shouting "please brake now" way too often. It was fine in start stop traffic but I didn't quite trust it at speed as the braking and acceleration could be quite harsh. It's definitely the future but probably not quite there yet.
Are you an Actros influencer now? Happy Christmas and a great 2024 to you and your family!
All lorries should have this system as default, it should make roads safer and stop the classic accidents of a lorry hitting a sitting queue of cars
30 min. queue is nothing. In Germany you can get up to 15 km . queue. The same Mercedes 10 years ago, was braking so strong, you won't let it do itself. Now thew got it better. Well done!
They put this in cars also , it will cut down on idiots driving , thank you for all the videos and advice though out the year , have a great Christmas and New Year with the family
adaptive cruise control? you tricked me with the title
Had this same type of Actros this year in Sweden which was 24m one, what i liked the most was the autopilot, steer it itself also but in the dark was absolutely crap, the lights was horrible.
Crappy mirrors though. Mirror cams are way better mate. (Once you get used to them)
I drive the lasted volvo FH I had to test drive it from my company it has the same stuff its amazing in heavy traffic
Both wich I drove, where also braking late. A good aid, but not perfect, or as a driver wich is able to see traffic ahead. Happy holidays to everyone 🙂
seems nice. but interested to know what it does if someone cuts infront of you or some wierd conditions. will it emergency brake out of the blue . cheers n happy xmas yall.

That depends how close the car cuts in. It’s not perfect, it’s still the drivers responsibility to stop! Use of the engine brake in addition to ppc/cruise helps when the driver can see further ahead than the truck obvs. The version with active sideguard assist will no doubt cover a lot more and will see vehicles cutting in late, it’s currently not available on 6x2 mid axle tractors due to location of chassis components but is on 4x2 as an option. This current version is a brilliant system overall though Like Raul says, in traffic it is so much better for the driver and Make the driver a lot less tired at the end of a long shift especially on a day with heavy traffic (that’s most days!)
Raul, have you had a chance to try out the newer Volvo? Is the adaptive cruise not similar? I think the idea was originally from Volvo. Now even the new Renault with compound turbo has cameras that will predict slope changes for SAFED. If there are fully unmanned self-driving trucks out there, they must rely on systems like these. Anyway, for the newer Actros one would expect cameras for mirrors.

Haven't got the chance to drive the new Volvo yet 👍
I Don't like it at all. I feel out of control when driving with this system. It brakes too late and too harsh then it accelerate like crazy.
Who's fault is it, whilst you relaxing, and truck malfunctions, and goes hurtling into the back on vehicle in front 😂😂😂

Most new trucks have collision avoidance systems built in (active brake assist in Merc). It will automatically apply the brakes and sound an alarm and flash a collision warning on the dash prior to hurtling into the back of a vehicle in front. Driver would have to be asleep at the wheel or majorly distracted to not see a stationary vehicle ahead. It's similar to driving under a bridge lower than the overall height of the tractor unit and/or trailer because the satnav said to go that way. Putting one's complete faith in technology is never advised.
Clickbait. This is just driver assistance, not self driving.
Booo 👎 Too much tech in vehicles these days, makes people shit drivers. Drivers drive, not the vehicle.

Same with satnavs, older drivers, from car to truck, pretty much know everywhere off the top of their head, satnav users can't remember where their going even if it's 10 mins away and they've been there before
