In the NYC Transit Police Academy in the 1980's, we were taught to use "X-pattern striking", for self -defense, with our "baton", (nightstick). Looks very similar to some of the techniques you've displayed with your cane. Thanks for the class. And thanks for reminding me of the lessons I learned 'bout 40 years ago.

I appreciate your thoughts about pepper spray. You’re right about importing machete/knife attacks. What you said previously about upward thrusts with the cane it uses the wrist movement in addition to arm making the cane faster, (sorry, I forgot your terminology).

Thanks for the video. The passage in Luke is interesting. That was what Jesus said to the disciples at the Last Supper. He had originally sent the disciples to preach and told them not to prepare much. Just before the Crucifixion, He told them to prepare much more. I haven't been to church in decades, but I remember reading that passage many times.

26:15 Reminds me of Musashi. Few Samurai challenged him to a duel. He showed up early, hid, and left a picnic. Thinking Musashi had given up on the duel, they drank, and slept. At which point, he dropped out of the tree and murdered them all. The greatest duelist of all time.

Great stuff Matt, God bless you for doing this. FWIW, (old soldier rant coming) Col. David Ben-Asher wrote a book called Fighting Fit back in the '60's that was composed for Israeli civilians and national guard-style irregulars to get them up to speed quickly should they find themselves in a confrontation. The techniques espoused were simple and to a degree awkward looking yet fundamentally sound for protecting oneself in such circumstances. That was the forerunner to what we know today as krav maga. And we all know what kind of irrational beast that has turned into. Self defense does not require superman style acrobatics or extraordinary strength to preserve oneself and I thank you for teaching so.

p.s. Lashing out is great but I was wondering if there were more "two hands on the cane" techniques one could practice?

Thank you for all the videos. They are very helpful. My multi layer of defense is the cane, pain pen stun gun and a 9mm. Sometime can you again show the defense from ready to block a swinging fist from left and right?
