Started using foam chucks for warming up, this is a great video for beginners and I'm 52!
This was very helpful! I used to take martial arts during my teen years and I placed 1st in the nunchuck competition. It felt awesome but it's been over 30 years! I just received my nunchucks and your guidance was perfect! It is never too late to pick up an old skill. I decided, WHY NOT! Becoming the best version of myself taking tiny steps and trying new scary things. Thank you!!!

I guess you made this a while ago, but just to let you know, it's still teaching! I'm 59, been training KungFu for a year, and just starting with nunchuks. I learnt a lot from this lesson and am noticing the improvement each time I run it. Thank you.

Got my first set when I was 13 years old now I'm 60 and you never forget how to kick some ass.
I just got a pair of nunchucks and started watching your videos and I wanted to thank you for sharing your knowledge. It has been very helpful and I have to say I'm taking your advice with the warm ups and I notice improvements in my technique every day.

I have two nunchakus, steel & wooden. Still practice at 56 yrs. Thanks for your video.
Thanks very much for this lesson. Turning my palm downward has really helped, especially as I'm trying to learn the figure 8.
Thanks for taking the time to show us. I have been practicing by using your video(s) now for about a month and have made some awesome improvements. Thanks so much again, brother.

Me too
Very cool video and well explained techniques. I recently signed my future step daughter up for Kung Fu class and then decided to join myself at age 37. I've been going for about a month now and I'm consumed by it. Obviously I'm a long ways off from weapons training, but wanted to do some research. I've always been intrigued by nunchucks, mostly because of TMNT. I'm going to come back to this video series when I'm ready. Thank you Matt!

@BenjaminGrim - For any self defence, forget nunchucks. And if you want to use tools (exception being gun or a short knife), and from a pure self defence, to be efficient quickly > make her learn (and yourself too) self defence using something like a kubaton/kubotan. Nunchucks? Good fun. But none of that is gonna fly in any real life scenario, as some people out there are brutal, are fighting on drugs, and they don't care how much they will hurt you or even if they will kill you (based on my own long term experience).
Thank you for the refresher course. As kids, we had to watch the movie over and over again to learn his moves, and I am sure you did the same. It's been so many years-somewhere around 40 years, lol-so I just made a pair. and right back at it, your rock.
I really like the way you teach. Very well done. I'm 46 and have fell out of practice, but I'm starting up again. Thank you, my friend.

Very nice demonstration thanks! I will train again following your advices.
Thanks again. Your great. Not complex like so many. AWESOME LESSIONS
Excellent lesson, thank you, Sensei.
Very very clear teaching! You make it look easy. A good teacher makes a hard activity look easy. A bad teacher makes the simplest thing too darn complicated so you don’t know where to start or where to go. You’re a great teacher! Thanks so much!
Never hurts to get back to basics !! I enjoyed this lesson emmencely.!! Thank You Sensei.
Just grabbed my first pair of foam chucks and your videos are PERFECT.
Awesome chucking, nice tutorial sensei 🙏 thank you as always
Great teacher, ive always struggled to learn the basics from other videos but you put it across great
Respected Sir, Namaste ! Your teaching method is so nice.
This was great time trying to follow along with the exercises. Will watch again tomorrow.
Yeaa great instruction , your right Bruce was the nuts we all went mad buying stuff , we made them from broom handles and cheap chain , iv bought a pair now and your explanation is great thanks. Fella
Excellent 👍 thank was so cool and especially like how you built up to all the moves. Thank you
Thanks for the tips
I worked everyday at this since Mid May. I did well and was really liking it except I was growing a fear of getting hit in the elbow. Last night I got hit in the elbow again and the wrist and realized I am just to damn old to incur any more pain points in my body. I am dropping it and my nunchucks are gone. I felt working at it helped with upper body stiffness and joint pain. But those whacks are more than I am willing to pay at 70. Thankyou for the good service and being a part of the videos I have watched.

I am practicing the nunchaku just over thirty five years now but i started out like so many others doing the basic figure Eight and under and over arm catch but in the last few years i have been keen to learn the wrist roll or reversal hurricane and some other fancy moves with the nunchacu and videos like this on youtube have helped me a lot reach my goal.
Thank you for your demonstration very educational, the 8 was very helpful when finding the centre of gravity, it has to and starts from the heart, fluid motion didnt even think it comes natural the way you are showing how it works, with every action there is a reaction, positive or negative and the 8 being the core hurts or can learn to reflect that pain to deal with it, not to hurt but to release tension
Great technique. Thank you
Just fantastic! Well taught!! Thanks

That’s so cool. What a fun memory! That era of MRE was very special! Hahaha. Chicken a la king was so nasty but every once in a while you would get all the fixings to make a cheeseburger! And the dried fruit! What was your favorite meal? Haha! Memories rushing back!

Greetings from Bavaria, Germany! I love the way you teach those things, Matt. It´s on point, motivating, well structured and organized, packed full of knowledge and will be effective, for anybody who´s intrested to get in, or improve their nunchuck skills. I´m absolutely sure about that. We´re blessed for getting that for free. you got me, pushin the abo- button at that point, where you admitted, that age doesn´t matter in case of learning and improving skills. Thats a very important message. Thank you a lot, and stay healthy.
